“Sci-fi.”

So, a writer/producer for Battlestar Galactica, Ronald D. Moore, is writing a sci-fi trilogy for Tom Cruise’s fledgling United Artists. That’s all of the info offered basically. As we’ve said before, original sci-fi seems to be on the comeback as we close out the decade and enter a considerable unknown. Moore previously worked on Cruise’s Mission: Impossible 2. Here’s what UA partner Paula Wagner had to say about him…

”Over the last decade Ron has emerged as the foremost sci-fi, fantasy creator, writer in the industry and working with him to bring his creative talents to the big screen is a great partnership for our studio.”

After striking out with Lions For Lambs, launching a force field against Valkyrie’s bad buzz and green lighting a stupid remake of Teen Witch, UA needs to produce a seriously popular and profitable franchise. More news on Moore’s trilogy as it develops. Is it just me or should Cruise make two more Risky Business films? Just me? Eeek.

With the moist loaf of Valkyrie about to drop, it is clearly time for “War of the Worlds 2: War Harder” and “Minority Report 2: Affirmative Action”!

    hahaha…nice one Lisa!

I found it interesting they filmed Valkyrie mostly in Germany, yet from what I know there aren’t any German actors. This is a real personal story for Germans and they take offense that Hollywood is trying to dramatize the real events for profits. I think everyone who even has a bit of knowledge of the story knows how it ends. This was a big mistake because it’s already spoiled. Do they really think people are going to sit in theater for 2plus hours for a movie when they know how it ends. Also how is moving the release date to Feb 13th 2009 better. It’s now up against The Wolf Man and the Friday The 13 remake. Two movies that are certain to gain lots of buzz over the summer and fall.

That said screw originality make a Battlestar Galactica trilogy, the show is ending and theres still a huge demand for it. Maybe a prequel storyline involving the first cylon war. I just hope he doesn’t talk people into making Scientology movies.

Plus a love story is different from a plot to commit treason

I wonder what this science fiction propery is. Dianetics, perhaps?

Battlefield Earth 2 anyone? Michael Moore should do a documentary about Scientology, but with all of the wackos in hollywood buying into this happy horsecrap, he would probably get blacklisted!

Why not? Ron Moore is the man right now when it comes to sci-fi…Minority Report was good and look what sci-fi has done for Will Smith’s career.

I hope Valkyrie ends Bryan Singers career. He deserves that for ruining a perfect opportunity to re-introduce Superman to cinema audiences. As for Tom Cruise, I like the dude. He’s a good actor and chooses interesting material. Just hope he returns to box-office glory.

Note that Moore also wrote or co-wrote 27 eps of Star Trek TNG, 30 eps of DS9, the two TNG films as well as the story for MI-2.

Having read the script, I found Valkyrie to be very edge-of-your-seat suspense thriller with a bit of action thrown in. I can so see it being a very good film if done right.
