Images Removed at Request from Paramount

Last month Paramount released photos of Snake Eyes, earlier this week they released our first look at Scarlett, and now [Link Removed] has apparently gotten an exclusive first look at the cast of Stephen Sommers’ GI Joe: Channing Tatum as Duke, Karolina Korkova as Cover Girl, Marlon Wayans as Ripcord, Byung-hun Lee as Storm Shadow, Sienna Miller as The Baroness, and Dennis Quaid as Hawk. The response from fans so far has been a bit underwhelming, however I’m actually more impressed than disappointed (maybe due to already low expectations). What do you guys think?

    The costumes look pretty ridiculous…

  2. Gravatar

theres a wayans in this movie….crap

  3. Gravatar

Dennis looks like a little boy wielding a gun in that picture…

  4. Gravatar

There is no hope for this movie. Thank you Hollywood for continually raping my childhood.

  5. Gravatar

Okay… not giving THE BARONESS her signature round spectacles is an art direction no-no. Overall though, I am impressed with the casting so far. Woohoo for Hollywood budgets.

  6. Gravatar

    wtf

  7. Gravatar

Marlon Wayans’ got some Captain in him.

    I don’t get it.

Are color and style too difficult to shoot, that all superhero/action movie characters have to always be in rubber and black leather. These characters are completely unrecognizable. I guess I assumed Sommer’s would have the right mind to make these characters look even remotely like their cartoon counter-parts.

They did the same thing with the X-Men. I guess they might be thinking, because G.I. Joe are a covert team of operatives, that they have to be stealth and look the part to. That’d be a realistic observation of their directive. But if you were so concerned about the realism covert operatives, then why make a movie about G.I. Joe? To me this takes about 30% of the fun out of what could be a potentially good action flick.

This happened with Transformers too, they were so concerned with how the machines would be able to realistically transform from automobile-to-robot, that what they ended up with were giant unrecognizable hunks of tin that rolled around on screen.

I feel that a film does not have to be “realistic” to be good. You’ve still got story, character, music, art direction, SFX, and presumably one who can direct mind-blowing action sequences.

So why is it we feel we can’t get a long without this idea of realism in films? Especially films derived from cartoons and comic books. In my mind these properties are more effective as an escape from reality. The idea of being able to see things on screen (or the comic page fore that matter) that we aren’t able to see in life. And adhering to realism, is a factor that I believe diminishes this fantasy.

So seeing these costumes, just makes me see the failure in understanding Hollywood has about the source material they spend so much money on trying to create.

Anyway, that’s my rant about all that.

I think Marlon Wayans is a good cast for Ripcord. As is Ray Park for Snake Eyes, the costume looks spot on, but a little restricted (too much rubber!). Take a queue from The Dark Knight, let that neck move. Hawk looks good.

Oh, man Sienna Miller would be a great Baroness, but they completely missed the, hot, evil-librarian looks she had going in the comics and cartoons. Thos glasses are Iconic in my opinion.

Geeze. I’ve really written way to much about this. But I hope you can see how frustrating this can be.

    Sorry, about the typos.

I think everyone needs to relax for a minute. These outfits are perfect for this moive. It will be a Trilogy and this movie will focus a lot around the character development anf not so much costumes. This is the first step of a three step process. The characters and costumes will evolve over time. For examle, Heavy Duty will eventually be renamed Roadblock in the movie series..be sure to watch the transformation of that character. Also, you have yet to see what Cobra Commander, Destro, and Zartan will look like. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed. The Snake Eyes casting and costume are perfect and Dennis Quaid is going to be everything we want from General Hawk. And by the way, Baroness looks great! Relax fans, you won’t be dissapointed!

    lips?????????????????????????

@ peter (or anyone who saw)

how does storm shadow look? is he in white? mask/swords/tatoos?

  13. Gravatar

G.I. Joe4LIFe, do you really think most will stick around for a second or third?

I understand working towards something, but give a little, let the fans know that what you’re creating, is something that they will want to see or can connect to. Especially those of us who grew up with the cartoon.

I understand your optimism and faith and it’s a good thing. I hope I’m wrong. But, as it stands this looks nothing like a G.I. Joe that would warrant sequels, let alone, sequels people would want to watch.

    It’s completely half-assed.

And I think Baroness’ outfit is proof of the Half-assery. It’s all about those glasses dude.

    @ Tendrillar

If House of the Dead and Bloodrayne can warrant sequels, theres now way this can’t. Whether they’re good or not remains to be seen.

Storm Shadow looks Okay. He doesn’t have a mask or a ninja suit in these pics. Not sure if he will in the movie. He’s dressed in a nice white suit, looks like a Yakuza. He’s got another outfit, that looks kind of cool, It’s a long white, tight fitting coat and he’s wearing two swords on his back, but, no mask or ninja garb. But, he is kind of cool looking regardless. And i guess there are no cobra insignia’s seeing as how this alludes to Cobras rise to power. He’ll possibly be more familiar in the sequels GIJOE4LIFE referenced.

    @ Floppy

    Good Point.

  17. Gravatar

    What happened to the link?

  18. Gravatar

Just google “The Cast of GI Joe” First link has all the pics… they look retarded. Snake Eyes is not waring a mask, it look like they painted his face black under his helmet. What a shame…

  19. Gravatar

they made you take down the link too? lol

  20. Gravatar

    Wow!

I guess I didn’t notice at first, but Snake Eyes Sucks!

They’ve got rubber lips on his mask. Lips? And the whole thing looks like something they threw together at Target. What the hell?

I officially don’t care anymore. Goodbye G.I. Joe movie.

Everybody that has yet to see this film and want to bash it- take a chill pill and relax. You complainers should be even thankful that this film is even being made! I too was on that band wagon at one time when they were first talking about Action Man being in the movie. Now that I know that Action Man is not in the film and that Larry Hama is on board as an adviser- I think this film is going to be very cool!! Yo Joe!

  22. Gravatar

lol, it’s Van Helsing for the NRA.

  23. Gravatar

They look alright. Mainly the love that the script has garnered is what keeps me interested in this.

  24. Gravatar

WWTDD still has the images up…

  25. Gravatar

well I just found them… googled “The Cast of GI Joe” and there’s a link on the second page that has them all. Baroness needs to lose the sunglasses for the regular round glasses and seriously! I liked the first pictures of snake eyes but now that you see his full body….! WHAT THE HELL! It looks like he’s wearing a pair of baggy black jeans! It doesn’t go with the top half of him in the least!

  26. Gravatar

GI Joe pictures look quite good.

But the characters do not seem as real as in the cartoon.

Maybe a little too much high tech…

  27. Gravatar

My god does Baroness look awful. Is it just me, or does she have dark brown hair in these photos? Where are her iconic glasses? Whats with her walmart pirate costume belt buckle? Her hideous boots? lol

Scarlett on the other hand looks drool worthy! DAMN!

  28. Gravatar

the cast pictures were just put back up today…UGH! what kills me is that they have very successful source material to pull from. they weren’t going from scratch, yet they chose to ignore a costume design that has been highly successful for decades and produce - kevlar people!?!? yes, snake eyes is pretty dead on, but oh man this is gonna be bad. and with sommers at the helm, i can only imagine that the script will be as silly as those costumes. here’s to looking forward to the reboot!
