Even when they both like a movie, they have to fight about why it’s good.” That may not be an exhaustive definition of criticism as a discipline or a mode of thought, but it strikes me as a pretty good summary.” [New York Times]

Thanks for the shout-out, Peter!
Yeah, I learned all kinds of stuff about Lucasfilm’s legal hijinx during the research for that post… I had no idea that Lucas ripped off R2-D2 and other ‘bots from 1972’s Silent Running.

I like the idea of Ben Kenobi being a clone. I guess that’s because I absolutely HATE the prequels.

I still don’t think and/or want physical movie renting to die. Most people reading this site will probably disagree because they have binders full of burned DVD-Rs or maybe even legit gigantic movie collections. Netflix instant demand or your local TV provider/DirectTV and the internet also have a lot of movies but there will still always be a time when you just get that urge to watch Full Metal Jacket or some random but classic movie that isn’t likely going to be available w/out some illegal downloadage and a few hours. I have the 3-at-a-time DVD subscription to Netflix but that still doesn’t stop me from going to local places when I feel like watching something that night that I hadn’t thought of in advance.
Just my thoughts.
