USA Today has published an article on Harrison Ford which features the new photo from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (as seen above). The article is pretty boring for the most part, except for the one sentence where Harrison Ford tells the newspaper that “he also might consider a fifth installment of Indiana Jones, though he hopes it wouldn’t take 20 years to pull together.” Indiana Jones 5?
Discuss: Should Harrison Ford do an Indiana Jones 5? Or should Crystal Skull be Indy’s Last Crusade?

April 17th, 2008 at 12:12 am
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… If it’s got Harrison Ford with a hat and whip, I’m fucking in!
April 17th, 2008 at 12:14 am
I should amend that statement…
If Jar Jar Binks makes an appearance (and no, Shia LeBouffant doesn’t count), I’d reconsider my plan to watch Indiana Jones 4+n.
April 17th, 2008 at 12:19 am
Absolutely, though if by some fluke Indy 4 sucks ass then we might want to end things here of course, maybe that’s the reason to do another one. You know, end it with a good one!
P.S. In no way do I think Crystal Skull looks bad, just sayin’
April 17th, 2008 at 1:19 am
Didn’t people want “new” Star Wars films. And look what we got.
I personally think it should be the last film.
April 17th, 2008 at 1:26 am
Gimme more more more!
In my opinion they could make a new trilogy, as they are able to get hold of the quality.
April 17th, 2008 at 1:56 am
Indy 4 should be the last.
April 17th, 2008 at 3:14 am
Why stop something so good? Just stop when it sucks
April 17th, 2008 at 3:47 am
i like the idea of a swan song for indy…but if they wanted to make another good movie, let ‘em.
April 17th, 2008 at 6:05 am
after 20 years, there’s never enough indy.
i hope he makes them till he drops. i trust spielberg. his worst stuff is equal to most directors best effort.
April 17th, 2008 at 6:08 am
@ Matt - Damnit Matt there’s two of us, we’ve gotta figure this out… most common name of 1985
April 17th, 2008 at 6:45 am
Not happening any time soon. George has a little break in between Star Wars, to make an Indy film. He’ll be busy with the live action Star Wars & Clone Wars cartoon for the next five years. By then Ford will be around 70.
April 17th, 2008 at 6:57 am
You can’t have enough Indy. They should keep makin these movies as long as they can. I’d love more sequels to this and many others like Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Bad Boys, and the Bourne movies.
April 17th, 2008 at 8:07 am
IF Indy 4 is good, then yes I would like to see another one. But it would have to come out by 2010. Harrison is getting a bit old for this shit.
April 17th, 2008 at 8:29 am
Well, since he did three to begin with, why can’t Crystal Skull be the first of another trilogy? They do need ideas for stories though and Lucas thought it was tapped out with this one.
April 17th, 2008 at 8:57 am
OK…Indy 5? Yes! Remember, people. The first and most important thing of a film is the story and big screen experience. Sure the last 3 Star Wars films had their awkward moments in regards to script, a bad CG character (Jar-Jar), and worse, some bad acting. However, the core story and big screen experience of watching those films with an expensive tub of popcorn and a soda are second-to-none. There is a lot (and I MEAN ALOT) of crap out there on TV and in the cinema that don’t have a good story, good score, or a good anything for that matter, and since FEW OF THE CURRENT (NEW) FILMMAKERS are trying to create original blockbuster big screen experiences geared towards a multi-generational audience, then I commend Mr. Spielberg and Lucas for keeping the torch lit and forging new adventures through the cavernous film industry.
April 17th, 2008 at 9:31 am
@Thumb. Amen.
Also, I think a Quintology makes more sense than a Quadrilogy or whatever-the-hell the words are.
Stopping at 4 is lame. See ‘Lethal Weapon’, which should have stopped at 2.
April 17th, 2008 at 9:55 am
Not only do I think there will be a 5th but a 6th as well.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:05 am
They can do an Indiana 5 so long as Shia LeBouf isn’t in it. The only way I will see it is if he is not in it, or if he spends the entire movie being slowly tortured and killed. My god people he like the Will Wheaton of this generation.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:18 am
Ford doing this movie is nothing more than him trying to pay for his divorce.
Ford is way too old to do this and the trailers clearly show a pathetic OLD man trying to act like he is 30. Embarrassing!!
April 17th, 2008 at 10:21 am
The movie is going to try and justify itself by making “old jokes” through out. LeBouf in it will only make it look more ridiculous than it sounds.
This is clearly a case of “staying at the party too long” for Ford.
It is very clear that people in Hollywood have no idea when to quit and to have a real good movie career legacy. Instead they just sell out and look like greedy pricks. haha.. F this movie. The only good one was the first one. The rest blew!
April 17th, 2008 at 10:41 am
I personally cannot wait for the release of Indy 4. These films are classics, I know bringing it back must have been a good script to deal with. It took a long time for them to make it perfect, if they decide to make a fifth, it just won’t be as good, cause the script would need to be written in a certain time.
I doubt they will make Indy 5. But if they do, consider me the first one to the theater. I am loyal to my Indy films.
April 17th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
LUCA$ = Two Trilogies.
thats how lucas gets down.
bring it on.
April 17th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
I don’t even really think they should have made Indy 4. The Last Crusade really should have been his last crusade. I love Indiana Jones as much as the next guy, but I think they should have just left it a trilogy.
That being said, I hope the 4th is at least an OK film…Though I have my doubts…
April 19th, 2008 at 2:42 am
I’d definitely like to see a fifth installment. :)
April 20th, 2008 at 7:01 am
i hope to see 5th indy and 10th and as much they can make
April 29th, 2008 at 4:11 am
Indiana Jones is the last “classic†action hero in my view, 20years is a long time between films, but the character of Indy symbolises a time of adventure and fun. Why not reintroduce the classic character to younger generations if Harrison Ford wants to make more Indy Films I will be there to watch them I feel Indiana Jones has just been rediscovered and will once more WOW audience’s world wide
May 3rd, 2008 at 8:10 am
Regardless of Ford’s age, most people are interested in what happens to Indiana Jones, the character. Growing older is a part of life…so seeing where he is twenty years down the line is completely plausible and fun. You can not stay young forever.
And actually, THAT is what’s more appealing to me about this film, regardless of the Crystal Skull storyline.
May 4th, 2008 at 7:15 am

I would love to see Ford do a fith Indiana Jones. I personally think that since they’ve successfully come to terms with letting Indy go on more than just a trilogy of adventures (and rightly so!), they should make two more films at least. This way they could fully explore Indy’s globetrotting adventures throughout the 50’s. Seriously folks, by my math we should really be on Indiana Jones 8 by now. So, please, please, please go beyond part 4. The audience has paid its dues after a 19 year wait. In fact, go ahead and film parts 5 and 6 back-to-back, seeing as how it takes so much effort to get the Indy trinity together- Ford, Lucas, and Spielberg.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
Am I the only one that wants Shorty brought Back?
May 12th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
yyeeeeeeeeesssssssssss!!!!!
is sooooo want a 5th indiana jones movie! i love indiana jones .
i thought he was hot in the trilogy…. :)
May 14th, 2008 at 9:04 am
Harrison Ford should DEFINATELY do Indiana Jones #5! Has he proved us wrong in The Raiders Of The Lost Ark, The Temple Of Doom or The Last Crusade? That Shia guy is set to give a mind-blowing performance as Indy’s son - so he should consider the sequals as well. Come on, can the world get enough of Indiana Jones? NO!
May 14th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
I think it would be awesome if they did another trilogy set to Indiana Jones. I know I’d be up for it. I’ve loved the films since I was in diapers and its inspired my deep affection for the field of Archaeology (even though the depiction of the field in the films is far from accurate, its still inspired me! The same way the VG version of Lara Croft does.)
If they do it, I’ll see it. I’m eager to see #4 next week, and I’m hoping Shia LaBeouf’s performance is as enjoyable as his other roles, I’ll dig it even more :)
May 15th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
i think they should make a 5th film indy rules i think this film will be just as good as the originals judging by the trailer for it
May 16th, 2008 at 10:52 am
I wish Indiana Jones could go on forever, and I will be watching #4 and should there be #5 I will be there. But maybe he needs to have a long lost son, who can carry on the tradition. These are great adventures for young and old alike. I’ve been watching them for the past 20 years and I still get thrilled.
May 20th, 2008 at 2:40 am
Indiana Jones 5 - with whip in one hand and cane in the other, Indy swings his cane by mistake and falls into the pit… heh…
May 21st, 2008 at 5:55 am
8 hours remmaining
i cant wait
indiana jones foreverrrrrrrr
can anyone here imagine someone else than harrison ford as indy ?
i cant and i think most of you will agree with me
May 21st, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Saw the film yesterday ending was a little weak, thou If they do do a 5th one I`m still gonna be in with a heart beat
May 22nd, 2008 at 1:03 am
Keep ‘em comin! Just got out of IJ4 & I was not let down. Well…for the most part, the ending kinda blew, but that car chase through the jungle was fuckin wicked!
May 22nd, 2008 at 4:23 am
Just saw Indy4 and feel it’s a great 4th movie, an enjoyable theater experience that feels like the others but may not match recent movie styles and therefore disappoint. Helps that I saw it in the classic Fremont Theater in SLO seating near 1000 people…..Keep bringing the Indy films as long as the crew keeps to the legend of the old films: live stunts, “matte paintings,” real film, tributes to iconic films of the era depicted (serials & b-films), and makes the three men happy..THANK YOU LUCAS, STEVEN & FORD
May 22nd, 2008 at 6:41 am
iv just come back from this film im a big fan of the old 1s and its no die hard i love the die hard 4 it keeped evry thing the new indy film it changed it tryed to be funny to much but soon as Shia LeBouffant enterd he gave it a new life in witch it can grow bigger i hope they bring it back for more as i think Shia LeBouffant cud carry it on he is a great actor and if mr ford joins in the new films the better
May 22nd, 2008 at 8:07 am

Indiana Jones rocks and a fifth movie would be something to look forward to…He might be getting a bit old but I hope that when I grow up to be his age to have the energy that Harrison has portraying the one and only Indiana Jones so I say Why not Keep up the good work and make another one soon.
Thanks George and Steve!!
May 23rd, 2008 at 7:51 am
I admire Harrison Ford tremendously. The film works precisely because he does not take himself too seriously and he looks great. He keeps himself very fit and there is absolutely nothing wrong at all with an older action hero as long as he does it with a sense of hmour as Ford does.Well done.

Harrison Ford acts in the new Indiana Jones movie accepting he is older and acts with a great sense of humour.I hope that he does another Indiana Jones movie.
May 23rd, 2008 at 10:33 am
Humour not hmour!
May 23rd, 2008 at 8:19 pm
dude, indy kicks so much butt he is the best. he is the last classic film that rexists that sti9ll rocks. i wanna see shorty in indy 5 but that wont happen. why not make indy 5, i mean, make 3 and then another three. plus, indy is the true hero. he doesnt do stuff for the money, or the glory, he does it so it can all go to its rightful place….a museum. GO HARRISON!!!
May 25th, 2008 at 1:02 am
Change the indiana Jones 4 to the title Area 51.
Harrison Ford Please make a indiana jones 5 because I no u can and this movie was not bad because of u, it was bad because the story was not believable. Why cant we bring back real looking effects, rather then this fake looking stuff and please make this story about the grail which is something that is Holy and believable and amazing!
Harrison Ford Kicks ass!!
Ford and Shih need to do indiana 5 - Make this about the Grail and don;t leave us with a bad taste in our mouths from this area 51 atrocity that makes no sense!
May 25th, 2008 at 9:29 am
as long as harrison ford is playing indie than i’m totally in
May 25th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
For all of you who say the movie makes no sense and that the crystal skulls are bull then do some research and find out that its based off of the ancient mayan crystal skulls that researchers have ones that they consider fake but just like in every indy movie it is about smoething that could be real.
May 25th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
In respect to the words above.
Ok no one said the crystal skull wasnt real, I said it isn’t a believable story like the past 3 were. I mean come on, aliens and falling from 3 waterfalls and everyone being ok? I think you need to understand where us Indy fans are disapointed and the people should expect more if you are going to call it indiana jones. This movie should have been named area 51.
This Movie did not make no sense to real people that no nothing about crystal skulls I mean we are not all archeologists like Roger above =)
Im sorry I don’t think fans of indiana want to do research on a movie before going into it. Can I get a AMEN!!
May 25th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
i think the should do a 5 and 6 but after that i think they should stop or the could do a 5 6 and 7 and have indi die and let his son the kid from indi 4 tale on his fathers adventor
May 25th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
I wasnt trying to say go do research before you watch the movie, i was saying before you start putting it down after youve seen it you should probably check first because its something that could be just as believeable as the ark or holy grail.
May 25th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Yeah, and falling from a cargo plane in an inflatable raft down the side of a mountain and into a roaring rapid is any more realistic than making it through 3 waterfalls????
I wish they would have done away with the CG and stuck to the analog special effects as those seem to be governed by a more natural circumstance…however, the movie was great! Go see it!!!
Oh, and BTW - the monkey scene was cool…it was a homage to tarzan and the adventure comics of the 30’s and 40’s…it also was an homage to Pitfall (the game). Finally, Indy swings from vines…err Indy III swings from vines. Mutt wouldn’t have thought to swing across the vines if he didn’t see the monkeys…that is why that scene is important.
May 25th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Roger, Come on man, obviously I can check if there are really crystal skulls and what not, but when you are actually anticipating indiana jones 4 you don’t expect aliens and 3 waterfalls and everyone just walking away like nothing happened. Idk man I think you got the concept of indiana jones wrong. Indiana is definitley not about aliens, it was about Holy Grails like I said something believable and not outrageous like a sword fight on 2 cars going like 60 and space ships flying away like seriously this has nothing to do with the last 3 indiana jones movies and it should have never had a plot like it did, why do you think people like indiana jones so much and they are dissing this one? It obviously is missing alot of things and has put alot of crap in it for alot of people talkin shyt about it and being disapointed, I think maybe you are one of very few who thought this could actually be called indiana jones 4, but I think many of us would have to disagree just because of the lack of certain things that this movie just didnt have. One thing that comes to mind is just the fact I think they said indiana jones or dr jones 1 time in the movie… hmmm this was really disapointing and IDK I just wish it had that God like feel about it and it didn’t. Sorry Rodge Im gonna have to disagree with you but we are all titled to our opinions and I never said this was not a bad movie, it wasnt at all it was just not indiana jones or anything close to it, it is just a mo chary they could call this indiana jones!
With that said I ask everyone that hasnt seen the movie, to go see it and comment back and just tell me what you think of my comment!
Thanks Mike!
May 26th, 2008 at 8:45 am
Is Henry Jones Senior dead in this movie…. I thought that drinking from the holly grail cup would have made him somewhat invincible… same for Indy…. just a thought here
May 26th, 2008 at 9:44 am
If I remember correctly, the Grail’s power couldn’t extend beyond the great seal in the temple. So once Henry Jones, Sr. left the grail site, he lost the immortality. Same thing for Indy…as he drank from it too. The knight was alive because he drank from the grail and stayed within the perimeter of the great seal.
That’s my take on it anyways. :D
May 26th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
I love INDIANA JONES movies you cant beat the story, the action, and the worlds greatest actor HARRISON FORD.I really hope there is a INDIANA JONES 5…….A big fan Don.
May 26th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
Spielberg, Lucas, and Ford should DEFINITELY do an Indy 5.
I mean, there’s no reason NOT TO!
After seeing the fourth one, there’s a relatively big cliffhanger at the end…
Also, I’d love to see Short Round return as an adult! That’d be just awesome…
May 26th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
That movie kicked ass make more
May 26th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
uhh mike this is exactly like the last indiana jones, what are you talking about? you angry because they didnt say his name enough? what ever
May 26th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
OMG please go watch last crusade again lol. Wow I cant believe you said that you actually commenting on indiana jones movies. And yes it did bother me they didnt mention his name because my god the name is iconic it has to be said. IDK if the name was said it would have meant something more. I guess you dont understand coming from a big indy fan you probably wouldnt but Im thinkin you don’t understand why fans are disliking this indy 4 movie.
O and btw the last crusade was my favorite indy out of all 4 and I would never compare this trash to the last crusade, it had nothing to do with Holy Grails it had no believable action and no plot. And on top of all that, where is Indiana Jones father? How could they kill off such a icon like sean connery. OMG please go watch something else ewhui.
May 27th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
ok mike what the heck do you want them to do, re-make one of the movies so that it could be about the ark or the grail? And if i remember right im pretty sure it does bring back up the ark in the film when they show the box it was in broken open. Also what about the temple of doom? that movie didnt have an ark or a grail in it either, does that make it a terrible movie? The crystal skulls are one of the most prominent thign archeologists were researching in the 20th century so it fit right in. Mike you have your own opinion by saying the movie stinks fine thats your opinion, but dont try forcing other people to believe that the movies was terrible, everyone has there right, me obviously i liked it, do i think it was the best indy movie no but that doesnt mean its not good just becuase its not the best doesnt make it not good. And just because theres people online saying the movies not good doesnt mean all the indy fans hate it, it just means that most people that post online only post online if they dont like movies! its like that for any movie, then theres the few people that actually like the movie that try to defend it.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
Ok now I am defending myself lol. As much as I did dislike this movie rodger when I was mentioning about holy grails and what not it was more about what it meant to me as a person so I obviously dont expect everyone to agree with me, but I do think the majority of indy fans feel very similar. And I think a big movie like this I would have posted a positive comment if I liked it. So your answer about only posting something because it is negative is wrong, I always promote good movies I see. But anyway besides all that your actually right about one thing was that temple of doom wasnt my cup of tee. And I think it was like I said not really having a feel for the movie. But in actuality I liked it because it had a good plot and it had good action. thats why I gave that a 7 out of 10 in my review. However the indy 4 movie i had to give it a 6 out of 10 just because as much as the movie could have been good even with the aspect of having it being about aliens and what not, although alot of people would agree with me that the movie should have not been about aliens it could have been alot better then it was, because there was no plot there was no suspense and nothing that made u start guessing as to what would happen next. But anyway I think we can agree upon that aspect if anything. But if not then I guess you really didnt expect more from a indiana jones film then I did and I think alot of fans did.
Now if I was to promote a good movie I saw this past week I would have to say everyone go see iron man, now that movie was a big shock to me being so good. I thought it was gona be corny but robert downey really did a good job. But anyway comment back !
Mike!
May 28th, 2008 at 11:14 am
See i thought this movie had a plot like most of the movies. It was a clue that led to another clue and eventually they found it. I thought it flowed just like all the other movies, and since i already had backround info on the crystal skulls it made perfect sense to me, even the ending which doesnt really follow the ancient myths about the skulls compeltly it does show that they contain all the knowledge of man kind which is what they are supposed to do. To me the aliens worked, now did i like the ending, kidn of, could it have been better, yes…and now with my comment about how most people only leave comments if they dont like the movie i still believe that true, you may be one of the few who actually do leave comments if you like the movie, me on the other hand usually i read through comments and just dont comment either way. But, indiana jones is probably my favorite set of movies of all time, right up there with star wars, i hope they make another indy movie because overall it was a good movies ill admit someparts went the best like the tarzan part but they ended up turning that part to where it wasnt too terrible anyways, and remember now this set of movies is spanning a timefram of close to thirty years they couldnt just make it so one generation would like it they had to try to make it appealing to younger generations as well.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
And mike id also like to point out that for the most part on here its mainly been people complimenting the movie and saying it was good
May 28th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Indy 4 was a complete departure from the the other three movies for several reasons:
1) The first three were about the power of mysticism and religion in the context of the human (historical) experience… ie. the Old Testament’s Ark of the Covenant, the Christian myth about the Holy Grail, Hindu Shankara Stones. Indy 4’s mythology was rooted in science fiction/conspiracy theory absurdity. The Crystal Skull’s origins were from space aliens? Don’t tell me that the giant CGI UFO at the end didn’t make you cringe!
2) Speaking of CGI… the first three relied on stunt work, elaborately constructed sets, and good old fashioned model work. Indy 4’s prarie dogs, waterfalls, army ants, (and SWINGING MONKEY’S???) made a mockery of the artisry and discipline of the former movies. Raiders used a REAL monkey… it was funny, clever, and had an element of dark foreboding (”bad dates”). Crystal Skull took a big dump on that simple theatrical device by drawing CGI cartoons all over the screen.
3) Sex. Where the hell was the sex? A post-menopausal Marian Ravenwood ( who was unfortunately failed by a stodgy screenplay) created no sense of sexual tension or romance. Cate Blanchett (Who looked so sexy) had no foil. She mumbled a few lines in a bad russian accent and then had a bunch of lame fight scenes. What happened to the smart dialogue, witty banter, and SEXUAL ENERGY that was so apparent in the other three movies? The wedding scene at the end was horrendous. I couldn’t even watch… it was contrived, cheesy, and lacked any sense of reality.
4) NO location shooting! Spielberg filmed the movie in ALL U.S locations, so he could be with his family. Come on! Where is the adventure in that??? The previous three (not to mention the more recent Bourne series) proved how atmospheric location shooting can be.
What really broke my heart about this movie was that it had so much potential. The first act of Indy 4 was outstanding (though not without problems). The opening sequence was fun, and set the tone correctly. The atomic testing ground, with the false suburban town was a work of pure genius. It was both funny and terrifying at the same time. The scenes at Marshall College were fun, inventive, atmospheric and true to form. Mutt’s introduction was a little too referential (Marlon Brando duh!), but still beautiful. The slapstick in the motorcycle chase was true to form. Then it just all went down hill… its as if they were working with two different screenplays and they couldn’t decide which direction to go. With all that McCarthyism flying around WHY didn’t they stick to it as a plot device?? The FBI AND the KGB going after Jones would have been unsettling and interesting. Instead, they just dropped it. It was set dressing… nothing more.
The last act of the movie was so bad, I couldn’t even watch at some points. Nothing happened… there was no conflict… they just walked to El Dorado broke the stones and reattached the skull. That’s it? It was so ridiculous and horrible, I don’t know how anyone can defend it. Emotional investment was nil.
The other three movies had endings laced in emotional longing and mystery. Indy gets the idol, or artifact, returns it to its rightful place and rides off into the sunset… with lingering questions and a strong sense of melancholy. This movie recycled the great Williams soundtrack from Last Crusade as Indy made some BS comment about the “gift of knowledge.”
George Lucas needs to be stopped. He is systematically destroying the legacy of great film making. The Indy series was smart, fun, and most of all, defining of our American culture. These recent installments of Star Wars and Indy are reflective of the greed and lack of creativity infecting Hollywood and the culture as a whole. Have we all become as bloated and lazy as Lucas and Spielberg that we cannot see our own decline? Let us hope the Indy franchise can be saved in a fifth installment. Or perhaps, even better, we should just… let it go. Leave it to be buried for archeologists to unearth thousands of years from now and wonder about the late, great American Empire in its heyday.
May 29th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Hey guys.I’ve just came back from Indy and the Kingdom of Crystal Skull. It was a fun movie and I enjoyed myself! But,I agree with some people,Lucas and Spielberg are getting greedy.I’ve even heard rumours that they will have Shia Lebeouf in the lead role for the next film,as it was hinted at the end of the film. Please,I beg you, don’t do this.I will support a fifth Indy if it is done right and if Harrison Ford is back as Indy in the lead role!Anybody agree with me?Also, the next Indy should be about him finding the cross Jesus carried or the tomb of Jesus. That’s the ultimate power.Or Indy about 110 years old, fighting in Iraq!Joke!Woo!Go Indy!
May 29th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
I just saw this movie and it ROCKED! It was just as tense, just as interesting, and even BETTER than the old ones since the effects were more modern! I think they did a great job with it, and Ford acknowledged his age and acted it. I hope they continue it. Shia, well, I don’t know much about him but he wasn’t horrible in it, just kind of annoying. But he plays a greaser teen and his character’s family roots…well…explain a lot!! Go see it!

Jim:
1) The Ark of the Covenant, the Holy Grail, and the Hindu Shankara Stones can all fall into the category of religious fiction… if not science fiction. The Crystal Skulls were revered by a much larger population of people vs. the Shankara Stones in real history. The Ark? Myth. Holy Grail? Myth. Hindu Shankara Stones? Myth. Crystal Skulls? Myth. Jesus Christ in the same context, in fact, is a myth. Until there is evidence of any of this existing, it’s all a myth. Belief in any of the above is faith bases. In fact, if anything, I’d put money on there being hundreds of thousands if not millions of intelligent civilizations in the Universe before putting money down on there being a Holy Grail with life giving powers of immortality any day. There’s 200 billion solar systems in our Galaxy alone. There’s over 200 billion Galaxies in our known universe. Even if one in a million solar systems possessed advanced civilized life, you’re talking billions of advanced civilizations out there. To write that off as science fiction would be ignorant. My money is on flying saucers and not a miraculous chalise or mystical stones if you want to talk in any realm of reality.
2) Indy 4 also relied heavily on stunt work (Harrison did ALL of his own stunts… look it up) and elaborate sets. It’s very well documented. I found the sequences of CGI in the film refreshing taking it to a new level. It’s not 1980 anymore, and these movies aren’t about reality. It’s about non-fictional adventure. It’s a movie, not real life. I suggest folks go into the theater ready for adventure. Was falling out of a plane in a raft, falling down the side of a mountain and a mile high waterfall realistic? Perhaps ripping a man’s heart out and the man living could be considered realistic. There’s any number of scenes from any of the previous movies that will leave anyone scratching their heads. Again, it’s a movie. Not real life. Embrace it as such.
3) Sex? Indy’s 65. Enough said. It’s an adventure film, not an adult film flick.
4) No location shooting? Name one environment in the world that the United States does not contain. They could film in parts of Alaska and call it Antarctica. They could film in parts of the southwest U.S. and call it the Sahara. They could film in Hawaii and call it the Amazon (which, they did). They could film on any number of lakes in the upper mid-west and call it Loch Ness. You could film in Florida and call it the Caribbean. The United States is a big place if you haven’t noticed. Believe me, there’s no difference when it comes to being close to family if you’re in Hawaii or somewhere in South America. Very ignorant train of thought here.
This movie also had an ending laced with emotional longings and a ton of mystery. Indy got the idol. He returned it to its rightful place and by all accounts, rode off into the sunset with a bang with the wedding scene if you ask me. That tied up a lot of loose ends from the old films. Does the possibility of this planet being visited by aliens not leave a lot of lingering questions either? Your comments are reaching and ignoring the fact this film had all of what you claim it was lacking.
And the ‘gift of knowledge’ bit, well, it really is a gift. Apparently those with it will appreciate this movie more than those who do not.
For those who haven’t seen the movie yet, sorry about any spoilers. I didn’t bring anything up other posters hadn’t already mentioned. I really don’t understand how some people can be so passionate about forcing their dislikes down other folk’s throats. If you like cinematic adventures, you’ll love this film. Trust me. It was a blast and lives up to the Indy name. The Last Crusade to me was the best of the series, but this one is tied with Temple of Doom for second. Lots of fun and a thrill ride to say the least!
Remember, it’s a movie, not reality:) Just like the other three! This one just has some modern film work involved which is a breath of fresh air if you ask me.
Enjoy! I give it 4 out of 5 stars on the action/adventure scale.

i reckon that a good idea would be to set it in 1955 or something a couple of years earlier like they did with temple. No marion, no mutt.
THEN maybe doa 6th based after skull, and have mutt take over. Cos ford will be too old and maybe its time to move on.. It wont be indy, but it’ll belong to his world.
And honestly anyone who says the 2nd and 3rd film were shit obviously isnt a fan, and why are they even commenting? go watch your mummy and scorpion king dvds you killjoys.

@Matt Baltimore >>
I AGREE with you 100%.
All of these negative reviews are from wannabe film school punks (probably 19 year olds) who likely know nothing of the processes involved with major filmmaking, the story and more importantly how to separate and maintain the stance that FICTION is FICTION. Indy 4 was a great adventure and was a hell of alot more cutting edge than most of the sci-fi/adventure/fantasy flicks out there today, because it PUSHED the limits of compositing, CG/live action stunts, storyline and busted free of the Hollywood mold that the majority of today’s films are cookie-cut to follow (Spielberg was always on the edge though…even in AI which most muggles don’t “get”). All the actors played their roles and did them well. The story made me think and tied into some of my own personal ideas regarding aliens. Any movie that can do that is worth its weight in gold.

ok i like the 4th indiana movie but i think that the whole alian thing was a bit of a strech in my opion

I liked the movie. It wasn’t as good and the first and third movies but I liked it better than temple of doom. I hope they make more, but not with Mutt. Make 2 more with Ford and then have Mutt be in the rest if they make more after that but get another actor somebody that looks like they could actually beat somebody up not a little wimp that plays with his hair all the time. I hope they make more!

I liked Indy 4; it wasn’t great, but it was entertaining.
I would go see an Indy 5 - as long as they don’t wait another 20 years to make it!

Ok, Mike is absolutely correct about this movie. I love Indiana Jones, my favorite one is TOTALLY the Last Crusade and I personally thought that was a phenomenal end to a great trilogy and I always hoped for a 4th movie eventhough Last Crusade was so perfect, it’s just the fact that Indiana Jones is so great and no matter what, you can’t get enough of him.
Now as for the new movie. Yes, it was entertaining, I went and saw it twice, I enjoyed the movie, but it was too fake. The originals were fake yes, like being dragged under a truck with a bullet wound in his right arm and still overtaking the damn Nazi and falling off of a giant cliff into a rapids and destroying a tank with nothing more than the help of a horse, but to survive an Atomic bomb in a refrigerator while everything else around him was absolutely disintigrated and attempting to make it believable by saying the fridge was lined with lead was just far too unrealistic. Not to mention the fact that he bounce like 50 times flying at a pretty high speed with absolutely no protection whatsoever and then rolling out when it stops and being absolutely fine was rediculously unbelievable. That on top of the three waterfalls portrayed Indy as a super hero with super hero powers which is not the case and dissapointed me, granted it was amusing and enjoyable to joke about how Indiana Jones can add another amazing feat to his record as surviving an Atomic Explosion. However, the whole movie was just too farfetched, yes crystal skulls are real and yes the theories are quite interesting and have valid points, but it’s not the traditional Indiana Jones style. Indy films focused on more magical mysterious artifacts, not scifi alien powered stories. So it was not an Indiana Jones film, it was a film that had Indiana Jones in it and therefore could be called Indiana Jones and the … whatever they wanted to call it. In Mike’s opinion, Area 51. So if you really are true, Indy loving fans, you’ll understand that it was not the traditional Indiana Jones, in fact it’s almost nothing like the original films apart from the beginning in the warehouse, that was the one and only part of the film that I felt was remotely similar to the original three Indiana Jones’. By the way, Temple of Doom wasn’t about God Mike, so it wasn’t always about God, although the best one did involve God’s powers. But even then, the Temple of Doom was more similar to what fans would expect from Indiana Jones than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was.
As for a 5th one, I’m all for it. I was afraid of being dissapointed with this one like I was the new Star Wars, but it was much better than I feared. So I think a 5th one can only make it better, now that we know Mutt’s or Henry Jones Jr. III’s character and can spend less time building up characters and more time focusing on the story line.

IF INDY DOES A FIFTH MOVIE FOR THE SERIES, IT SHOULD BE ” THE INFERNAL MACHINE “
June 15th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
I know I just commented on this film, but I noticed a few things since then from other people. I realize the alien myth is a legitimate theory, but it’s not in the traditional Indiana Jones style. It was not Indiana Jones and simply because of that it should not have been the focus for the plot or it should have been done in a less obvious way more mysterious and creepy, giving the audience a question of “what if it were aliens?” or something else. It was just too focused on aliens and Indiana Jones has never been focused on straight up science fiction in the sense of space and interdimmensions, it’s been more traditional european/indian religious views. A story about China and chinese artifacts would have been much closer to the traditional Indiana Jones. There were a lot of things I did not agree on in this movie and wished they did a lot of things different, it was too outlandish with people driving off cliffs to land on a tree in order to flip it back onto Russians and stuff like that. For those of you people who claim we have no filmmaking sense you’re wrong. The new age films are becoming too hyped up on special effects and CGI. A proper film is one that doesn’t focus on monumental special effects in order to entertain the audience, but rather one that focuses on creating questions and impressing people with the little they can do in order to be memorable in the viewers minds much like the original Indiana Jones films with their simple yet fascinating special effects and amazing storylines that immersed the film goers, believing they were actually there right along with Indy and his crew whether it be running from a 10 ton boulder or riding through a mine on a decrepit mine car or sneaking through a Nazi infested castle. Before CGI, films did so much more to entertain. Now they simply try to impress people and make people excited for 20 minutes in order to ignore the fact that the storyline was not at all impressive.
But as I said before, I still enjoyed the 4th movie, it just did not mimic the original Indy films. In my opinion it was more of a spoof of the original than an additional story but was still entertaining. I love Indy and no matter what, I’ll always be happy watching an Indiana Jones film. I just hope they can make the fifth one that much better. In fact the idea of making the fifth one a prequel like Temple of Doom is a great idea and would be very entertaining especially if they ended it where the fourth one starts with Indy and Mac in the soviet convoy on their way to Area 51. I just hope Lucas and Spieldberg put some more effort into the 5th one and don’t simply say, “What the hell, everyone’s going to love it no matter what” cause it’s just not fun that way, I’d like to think they still want to keep the traditional Indiana Jones alive, cause I sure would if I were them.

Hye thanks matt for the motion on the motion =) I totally agree with your comment I wasnt aware I said temple of doom had to do with God but yea I totally new that it didnt =) But anyway hopefully like you said I hope spielburg and lucas put some more power of the minds at work for the next installment. And thats really why alot of 2nd 3rd and 4th movies arent always as good as the first, they figure since already people like the first one they will absolutley pay to see the second and so on. But honestly I would go see a second and so on if I liked the first but it just makes me think what these directors and actors are sometimes all about, which is Money. And its sad because you would think with the millions they already have they would be more doing this for the fun and enjoyment of making movies and I think thats more why the 1st indiana jones movies were better, these big directors were not as big bak in the day well at least I dont think they were =)
Get to work have fun and remember what indiana jones is about !
Mike!
June 16th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
Yeah, that is really what it’s all about. These directors just figure they have sure thing so they can do whatever they feel like and it’ll get a ton of money no matter what. And yes, I am just like you in that I would go see any Indiana Jones movie that they decide to make, but if it were me I would put more love and care into bringing back such a great trilogy with a new series. Thanks Mike.
P.S. I wasn’t saying that you claimed Temple of Doom was about God, you just didn’t address it and made therefore it sounded like you were saying every Indy movie until Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was about God. I just didn’t want some smart ass pointing that out and making something giant out of it. I knew you knew what you were talking about.
June 17th, 2008 at 12:02 am
Hahaha thanks Matt, I guess sometimes there are the haters, and just to let everyone we arent hating we are stating are opinions and as much as this film had tons of action it just wasnt believable action and we no that all action films are make believe, but this was just over the top for me =) Hopefully they get it right in the next installment.
Mike! O btw check out my site http://www.icedoutwatches.us
hopefully i dont get booted for a little promotion =)
