I read the book and loved every page. I netflixed each movie so I’d watch them as I read their specific chapter. I’ll definitely be seeing this film.

As someone who lived the history in this movie I’ll tell you it’s worth seeing. You’ll get a good top-down history of the company. Then watch the documentary on the PIxar Shorts DVD (or BluRay) and you’ll get a good bottom-up history. The two complement each other nicely.

But I’m biased.

I’d sort of fallen out of love with Pixar after Cars was disappointing and Ratatouille was only just good and not great. This movie seems like a great way to reconnect with the spirit of such a great company. I’m really looking forward to this.

I saw this film last year at the Sonoma Valley Film Festival where John L. was the guest of honor. While the film is well put together, and fun to watch, the thought that refused to leave my mind was this: It’s just too damn soon to tell this story.
Like “Wired” being made way to soon after Belushi’s death, or any 9/11 movie. The Pixar Story is just getting under way. I love the studio, and continue to be amazed with the films they produce, but the Disney drama is a whole book unto itself still waiting to be written, and a simple glance at the trade papers will confirm that a studios good fortune can turn on a dime.
I’m in no way wishing them ill or anything. I hope they continue to crank hit after hit out. This film, to me, just seems a little too premature to be called, “The Pixar Story”. Maybe they should tag a “Vol. 1″, or “The Early Years” to the title.

Sorry, did you say it has “Pixar” in the title? YEAH it’s worth watching!!!

I’m 16. I was like 5 when Toy Story came out, and any still or moving image of Pixar itself is no less than an inside look at Willy Wonka’s factory. I don’t have TV, but hopefully it’ll come out on DVD/Online soon enough

and @ Kyle, the book is called DroidMaker, and it does look pretty awesome.

I was able to catch Pixar Story here in Seattle several months ago. I really, really, really enjoyed it. I’m a huge Disney fanatic and it was really fun to go into the inner workings of Pixar. The conflict that has occurred between Disney and Pixar aren’t addressed to thoroughly, but it’s really fun to get some faces and voices behind the names that you see scrolling after every Pixar film.

If anyone’s interested, a more comprehensive look at computer development with respect to movies, there’s a book called DroidWorks and it is damn good. It covers the formation of Pixar by cataloguing the people featured in this film from their first start with Lucas and how close Pixar was to non-existence.

Highly recommend it.
