Rachel Nichols as Scarlett in GI Joe

Old School ScarlettParamount released the first photo on JoBlo of Rachel Nichols (Charlie Wilson’s War, Alias) in costume as Scarlett O’Hara in Stephen Sommers‘ live-action adaptation of GI Joe. Ranked Master Sergeant, red-headed Scarlett is the first female character in the GI Joe action figure line. Her weapon of choice is the crossbow (pictured in the promo photo), and her specialty is counter intelligence.

I really love the idea of a GI Joe live action movie because it could really be something way above and beyond any army or war-type film we’ve ever seen before. I’ve heard that the script is kind of a stinker, and having the guy who directed Van Hellsing direct also doesn’t inspire confidence. That said, both of the photos released so far from the studio, Snake Eyes, and now Scarlet are more bad ass than I could have ever imagined. They could have gone real corny with colored outfits trying to replicate the look of the original characters from the GI Joe universe. So far I’m really digging the far more realistic black combat gear.

You can see a higher resolution version of the new photo over on JoBlo.

G.I. Joe is scheduled to hit theaters on August 7th 2009.

WOW, she looks bad ass and hot, maybe this movie will be good after all

“They could have gone real corny” They never would have because a decision was made over 6 years ago on x-men to ditch old character designs in favor of cool leather outfits. Not a bad choice but GI Joe is bearing many comparisons to x-men, except no cast, no script and no director. That said, the child in me is dying to see this.

GI Joe: I Want to Believe

    Oh wait, wrong movie…

    hahahaha

    I’m sorry…just retarded

Personally, I really want the GI joe old school out fits… I dont see how using the original characters costume would have looked any more corny than the one she’s wearing now.
If anything, it negates the coolness of Snake eyes because he is the ” Mysterious Joe” who is all in black.

amazing …any word on the possible rating …i PRAY FOR A RESTRICTED GI Joe movie

if peter’s right about the script, with sommers directing this could be a really good looking film that ultimately sucks - lets hope for the best though.

I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE STORM SHADOW!!!

also, i’ve always hoped for a GI JOE video game that was exactly the same as ‘marvel: ultimate alliance’, hopefully this movie can make that happen.

I wonder if this is going to be another one of those films where they flood the stores with a bunch of toys based on the movie?

    Oh, wait….

  10. Gravatar

    She’s hot. Mein gott.

Its taken the Xmen route in terms of costume design, unlike Dragonball. Wise move.

    take that as a warning.
Anything less than what I imagined it should be since I was a child will be an epic fail.

  12. Gravatar

    nic GI ass

    One word: DAMN.

I’d definitely buy that for a dollar.

This almost makes me want to forgive Sommers for Van Helsing.

    Almost.

Do you suppose that the body armor has nipples?
All joking aside, that may be very distracting to any member of COBRA.

There has got to be a kung-fu grip joke in here somewhere.

I wonder if the live action movie is going to be the same as the cartoon… Lots of bullets and lasers flying… yet, no one dies

  16. Gravatar

i wanna go jack off now i think.

  17. Gravatar

Yeah but how corny did the original outfit really look? Not by much. If turned into something real I’m sure they could have pulled it off.

  18. Gravatar

    I’d tap that

  19. Gravatar

Ah, redheads and crossbows. Two of my favorite things.

Really though, I disagree with the need for realistic uniforms. I liked the cartoon because they didn’t have uniforms that were really uniforms, they all sorta wore what they were into.

Black plastic and spandex and leather is just so… Forced-cool. Purple tights and shit like that are so blatantly impractical that they work.

    thats hot!!!

  21. Gravatar

    Want. To. Touch. The. Hiney.

  22. Gravatar

Well now that Scarlett is wearing the Baroness’s outfit, what will the Baroness wear? I guess she’ll be naked.

  23. Gravatar

    PORKCHOP SANDWICHES!

  24. Gravatar

I wasn’t sure about this castign at first, but she looks great. I guess it’s hard to screw up “hot girl with a red ponytail and a crossbow” but easier things have been screwed up in the past.

  25. Gravatar

I think she looks pretty kick ass but I am with the others who think her original uniform wouldn’t really have come off as cheesy. I dont like the idea of everyone in a black bodysuit, it lacks personality. I don’t have much hope for this popcorn flick anyway…
