Cool Stuff: Defaced Presidents

TITLE 18, PART I, CHAPTER 17, § 333 of the United States Code reads:

“Whoever mutilates, cuts, defaces, disfigures, or perforates, or unites or cements together, or does any other thing to any bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt issued by any national banking association, or Federal Reserve bank, or the Federal Reserve System, with intent to render such bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt unfit to be reissued, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.”

Six months? That’s a little harsh. But people have been defacing U.S. currency for fun since it’s invention. A new Flickr photo pool collects scans of found defaced presidents. Here are some of the cooler movie/geek related bills:

Most dead presidents got a drawn dick in their mouths or the Batman cowl from me. Along with my famous alien sky battle in front of the White House lawn.

I also would make up codes in made-up, random languages. In hopes that some conspiracy nut would take them seriously.

Very cool. Defacing bills is good fun.

Note the "unfit to be reissued" part. Unless you do something that makes it so someone wouldn't accept the bill, you are fine under the law...

Shame its treason in the UK. Doesnt seem to stop people though. Bat George Washington is the best. I always thought that Batman is never around when George washington is.
