For those who thought my asinine TWBB rant was insanely lowbrow, here’s a bit of high brow genre fare to level out the horror. Toasted author Michael Chabon’s unused screenplay for Spider-Man 2 is now online over at McSweeney’s as a PDF. Grab it here, and do so quick because the site says it will only be up for a short duration. You may recall that Chabon received a writing credit on the second and top Spider-Man film, but his screenplay has never been made public until now. Good deal.

Discuss: Peter and I haven’t had a chance to read it, but if you’re playing hookie, don’t feel like working or simply don’t “get” the job thing, write a mini-review of the script in the comments! Appreciated.

That’s either fake or Chabon doesn’t know how to write a screenplay or someone just inexplicably deleted all of the action (and by action I mean description of what’s going on on screen). From what I read it’s just lots of mediocre dialogue.

God that was boring. Glad they didnt shoot that.

I looked foward to reading this when i saw the headline, but i am quite dissapointed. It lacks any depth. Would be suitable for a short cartoon movie online but not a live action movie.

Whatever, “SPLORCH” is my new favorite word.

I don’t know, I thought it was OK for an early draft. Some of the discrepancies from the finished film were better in this draft. But whatever, it was fun to read as a curiosity, and it will never ever be more than that.

I’ve only read a little bit… but that cannot honestly be real, can it?

Most of this draft seems to be the same as the movie we ended up seeing in the movie theater. The major difference with this draft is that Doc Oct seems to be in “love” with mary jane, and when he captures spidey, he intends to kill him, I dont know if I like this draft, the movie turned out okay, but they could have done better all around.
