This weekend, we posted a story on how Uwe Boll, the “filmmaker” responsible for some of the worst video game movies in recent history, promised to stop making films if one million people signed a petition against him. At the time we posted the story, the petition only had 16,000 signatures. I’m happy to report that our posting was picked up by websites across the interwebs, and the petition now has over 127,000 signatures! So we’re one eighth of the way there.
Uwe Boll is starting to feel the pressure and has released a video statement demanding that his fans start a pro-Boll petition, which he expects a million signatures to counter the Stop Uwe Boll petition.
“Look, I’m not a F**king retard like Michael Bay or other people running around in the business… or Eli Roth making the same shitty movies over and over again. If you really look in my movies you will see my real genius,” Boll said in a video statement. “You have to really wake up and see me what I am, the only genius in the whole f**king business.”
I kid you not, he actually said that. You can watch for yourself in the video after the jump. Sometimes I wonder if Boll is actually this ignorant, or if he’s doing an act for his critics.
Also worth noting, Eli Roth responded to Boll’s negative comment against him, calling it the “greatest compliment ever.”

are you guys aware of the “any publicity is good publicity” concept. Boll’s not dumb, I’ve met the guy…he’s actually humble, and knows his movies suck - a fact he pokes fun of at length. Boll also knows postal has a chance, that it’s different from the other junk he’s produced and that the best way to get people to see it is just make some noise (because no one will believe good press on a boll film) and hope it’s enough noise to do some decent numbers. The guy’s just play’in us…he won’t stop making movies with 1mil sig’s, he knows he’s not “the only genius”…he wants to get people talking about him and his films right as postal’s on its way out…

if we defeat uwe boll, it will be sad. i think we should let him do whatever he wants, and continue to talk about it. that we have something to bash, and he can keep saying stuff like this. and taking pictures like the one above. that picture is great, it shows a simple man, showing his approval of something, but really, you are staring into the face of an arrogant bastard. okay, so Uwe Boll is kind of a douche. Making such a bold statement like that only certifies his stupidity. But if we actually look at some of his later movies (Dungeon Siege in particular), the movie isn’t really that horrible
I’m a big cult movie follower, and I think Dungeon Siege has the potential of notoriety for it’s really crude, low budg action segments. I thought all of it was really sarcastic, and being the kind of person who loves normal adventure flicks to the bone, I found it refreshing.

Many people criticize Uwe Boll’s movies as “Horrible, amateur film making”. Personally, while they may seem like bad B-movies, they are actually A-grade video-game-based masterpieces! They have a classic style that is truly missing in today’s horror/action/sci-fi films. Uwe Boll is a very smart director, with a unique style and vision. It would be a tragedy to the film industry if he could no longer make movies. I love his work, and hope that he continues to make many more original and video-game-based films.
