Pixar's Up

In January, we published concept art from Pixar’s Up (seen below), which was on display at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Pixar has finally released a computer rendered version of the same frame (seen above), giving us a better look at what the film might look like. I hear the first teaser trailer will be attached to WALL-E next month. Click on the image above to see an extremely high resolution version of the photo (8188×8298) thanks to UpcomingPixar.

Up

From the Academy Award®-nominated team of director Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc.) and co-director Bob Peterson comes Up, a comedic adventure taking off (and lifting spirits). Here is a brand new plot synopsis direct from the studio: Carl Fredricksen (voiced by Ed Asner) spent his entire life dreaming of exploring the globe and experiencing life to its fullest. But at age 78, life seems to have passed him by, until a twist of fate (and a persistent 8-year old Wilderness Explorer named Russell) gives him a new lease on life. Up takes audiences on a thrilling journey where the unlikely pair encounter wild terrain, unexpected villains and jungle creatures. When seeking adventure next summer – look Up. Christopher Plummer voices the villian. Up will be released in Disney Digital 3-D™.

Up will hit theaters on May 29th 2009.

    Peter,

I work in the film and game business as a conceptual artist, I can assure you this is not 1. Finished footage of what it’d look like, but 2. Just a test of what direction to go in. You can tell, well at least I can that this is a practice where Pixar will render a basic mesh, and the digital painters will go over it for a color or style test.

I know you said “might” look like, but I just dont want everyone from after this comment to be like, “Ugh looks shitty for Pixar!”

Does the paper contain slight plot details? There’s talk of a mall going into the community and “Long time residents” being upset that it will be an eyesore. There’s also a house with a skull on the front door. Is our main character that grumpy?

Shrug. It’s my years of watching Lost that has me looking at these things. There’s also a story about the Berry Festival so I guess it could be about that too.

is it just me, or does that guy look somewhat like the boss from the incredibles?

Look at all those locks on his door. Must not be a safe neighbourhood eh?
