Warner Bros has released their Summer Preview kit to press outlets (hence the Get Smart photos posted earlier this morning), and while it doesn’t feature any new photos for The Dark Knight, Warner gives us this new and official plot synopsis:
The Dark Knight reunites director Christopher Nolan with star Christian Bale, who returns to continue Batman’s war on crime. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Batman sets out to destroy organized crime in Gotham for good. The triumvirate proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as the Joker (Heath Ledger), who thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces the Dark Knight ever closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante.
Okay, I know… it’s not much. But I thought since everyone is waiting for a new trailer that I’d throw that little bit of meat out there.

This seems to be the film which everybody is scared of, with regards to competing against. I think even George Lucas mentioned it when he was asked about films out this summer.
Begins seemed to lay the foundation and made people interested in Batman again. Now The Dark Knight might be the film to really make a boatload of money for Warner Bros.

This is definetly my most looked forward to film for the summer, with Ironman pulling in second place (great year for comic films i guess :P ).

thats,
Totally. it’s why I’ve been just biting my tongue in waiting for when this trilogy wraps up. I want a full-on trilogy box set of Nolan’s Batman!

Kenton sam,
Those are good choices. But one of the things I like how Nolan chooses Batmans rivals. He’s pretty selective and tries to give them enough film time to explain their background. Too many of these iconic villians at once will end up choking this franchise like many other comic films who have done or tried to do. I like his “taking it slow” approach for now.

That particular photo of Ledger/Joker makes me think of Keaton/BeetleJuice, BeetleJuice, BeetleJuice!
April 5th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
i read somewhere that Heat is a inspiration for the film

My God, I thought I was the only one who thought Ledger’s Joker looked like Beetlejuice. Played by Michael Keaton, another Batman link too, cool.
The plot details released was finally nice to see open, although I could pretty much figure that out by watching the trailer.

How is this “new plot details?”
It’s very close to ‘Long Halloween’ - as we all know but with more of a focus on Joker than in the graphic novel.
Also - based on the stills of those guys hanging from buildings with nooses’ around their necks - there is clearly a dash of ‘Dark Victory’s’ HANGMAN techniques - which was the sequel to ‘Halloween’!

does anyone have a good solid idea of when the new trailer will be released

Can’t wait to see this movie. Last year I saw a sneek peek in the theatre which revolved around the Joker and a heist scene. Good stuff.
