Photos Removed at the Request of Lionsgate

Forty new photos from the set of Frank Miller’s big screen adaptation of Will Eisner’s The Spirit have leaked online at Dark Horizons. I’ve included the ten most interesting ones after the jump to give you a good taste. I’m still very unsure about this film, and these photos don’t fill me with any more confidence. The real question remains: Can Frank Miller direct without the help of Robert Rodriguez?

Imagine Really Crappy Looking Spirit Set Photos Here

(Lionsgate asked us to remove the Photos)

You can view all 40 photos at Dark Horizons. Will Eisner’s The Spirit will hit theaters on January 16th 2009.

    Okay, BACK THE FUCK UP.

Samuel L Jackson as a Samurai, and as a triple gun wielding Wesley Snipes, Demotion Man-DOPPLEGANGER?

    SIGN ME THE FUCK UP.

This is going to be a good flick. I can feel it.
Mainly because I’m a fan of both noir and the Spirit.

ok, if THESE photo’s don’t get you hyped NOTHING will.

the seventh and eigth photos look great and scarlett johansson looks great and sam jackson looks like a BAMF and it looks funny, and it’s gonna be mad stylised…i’m THERE!

Wow. I was very much doubting this movie but I have to say: these photos have changed my mind! It’s definitely being shot using the same technology as Sin City but these photos look like The Spirit. These pictures capture the spirit (no pun intended) of what I’d expect The Spirit movie to be.

    Good stuff! I’m happy.

The thing is with this kind of tech, the green screen set photos will always look kind of ridiculous because the post-process is just so many layers and so intense. It’s like watching Beowulf when it’s just a bunch of actors in leotards and pins.

What is this? This is more like Sin City 1/2 than The Spirit. From never showing Octopus to having a master of disguise be Samuel L. Jackson in different costumes? Jackson is Jackson in every role he plays, which is usually the most jarring part of the movies he’s in these days.

I would have to say that it looks awesome so far. Really looking to seeing it in the theater

for some reason these photos remind me of Dark City. i’m also wondering what will be different without rodriguez guiding miller. i’m thinking visually this will be amazing, but the execution could be off - hope i’m wrong.

    Wild.

What the Hell? Why isn’t the Spirit in BLUE?

Movie will be great but flop at boxoffice.

I really hope this works out for Miller. I’d love to all his comics come to life.

I admit these films have peaked my interest. I’m not really familiar with The Spirit but it looks kind of interesting. And I didn’t even recognize Scarlett Johansson when i first browsed over the images.

I’ll reserve judgement until a trailer when we can get an idea of what the effects and backgrounds are going to look like.

Meant to say “pictures” not “films” ahah.

    The truck reads ‘Ditko’s’…

    I’m in.

It all looks okay, but its really hard to tell with no real background. I’ll make my decision when I see some footage.

…. Am I in my own reality? people like what they’re seeing? I… I can’t beleive this. this is some of the worst looking shots I’ve ever seen. And yes, I get it, that it’s the green screen photos, and yes, it’s not the finished film…

I thought we were going to get a sleek rock-em-sock-em modern day take on Will Eisner’s the Spirit. Instead it looks like we’re getting a movie being made with the same delicate approach that Joel Schumacher took with Batman.

    To this I say boo.

  19. Gravatar

Yeah it looks pretty crappy, but who knows.

I ALITTLE PRESENT FROM THE DARK KNIGHT BOARD AT IMDB
