Universal has released a new movie trailer for Hellboy II: The Golden Army. It looks like Guillermo del Toro was given a lot more control over the look of the film, especially the creatures, which appear to be a combination of Pan’s Labyrinth and Lord of the Rings. Check out the full trailer below or you can watch it in High Definition on Yahoo.com. And as always, tell me what you think in the comments below.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army hits theaters on July 11th 2008.

DANG!
I wanna be first in line for this.
That trailer is awesome.
April 3rd, 2008 at 12:45 pm
Oh boy oh boy oh boy!! This… blew… MY MIND! :-D
April 3rd, 2008 at 12:50 pm
AWESOME!
April 3rd, 2008 at 12:54 pm
Holy hell I cannot wait.
April 3rd, 2008 at 1:00 pm
That was DOPE. Told y’all….
Now tell your friends
April 3rd, 2008 at 1:03 pm
That was furiously epic! The steam punk (ish) world filled me with wonder.
April 3rd, 2008 at 1:04 pm
Bigger budget and better fx can’t make up for a crappy script with D list “actors”.
April 3rd, 2008 at 1:08 pm
I’m very sadly disappointed with that. =(
April 3rd, 2008 at 1:09 pm
Ron Perlman is epic, I don’t care what list he is on.
April 3rd, 2008 at 1:09 pm
As long as Guillermo del Toro is the Director… All comic books ever made should now be made into film. That trailer kicked my ass!
I would LOVE to see what he would do with Frank Millers Hard Boiled.
Or better yet, That trailer is proof that ONLY Guillermo del Toro can pull off the MAXX comic. Think about it Hunter. Who else could do it besides Del Toro ?
I prey to the baby jesus and the grown up jesus with a beard that that will happen.
April 3rd, 2008 at 1:10 pm
Mike Mignola is in on this one too right? Boy, do I like HB!
April 3rd, 2008 at 1:13 pm
Damn, but that’s an exciting trailer.
April 3rd, 2008 at 1:14 pm
hard boiled has a bit of a generic story, that book is all about the visuals. So yes Guillermo del Toro would rock at it,
April 3rd, 2008 at 1:19 pm
that didn’t sound like David high pierce doing abe’s voice sound’s like the guy who did his voice in the animated movies
April 3rd, 2008 at 1:23 pm
Imagine what GDT is going to do with the Hobbit. Should be something special.
In many ways just by having GDt in the directors chair, I think it has several more things going for it than flicks like Iron Man and Hulk. reason being that even though they look good, i can imagine GDT making EVERY scene interesting whether it be story or visuals.
April 3rd, 2008 at 1:26 pm
HB is all about kickass fun. I’m glad to see that del Toro has changed the stark pallete of the comic to his signature fantastic style.
April 3rd, 2008 at 1:33 pm
@ Clarence
Except the stark pallete and gothic look of the comics is one of the main reasons why the comic worked. Del Toro has turned it into a generic superhero/fantasy movie. Even the DTV cartoons couldn’t get Hellboy right. What’s so hard about just adapting the comic book?
April 3rd, 2008 at 1:51 pm
I dig those character designs
April 3rd, 2008 at 1:52 pm
JOHANN THE GHOST!!
I love what Del Toro’s done with this property. He gave it his trademarked stylized “organic” feel, which I love about his fantasy films. He’s really the only director I could ever see doing a character and the world he lives in like this. I also noticed more of a Wayne Barlowe influence on the creatures in this one, which I like.
In short, this trailer kicked my ass :D
April 3rd, 2008 at 1:55 pm
@ Tyler d
I’d love 2 see the maxx get made, gdt would be great w/ pangea, but i was thinking fincher could really capture the gritty city parts. only in fanboy heaven would they team up & split duties.
April 3rd, 2008 at 1:57 pm
@gah
That’s one aspect. I figured it to be the contrast of the characters attitude against such epic situations as well.
Besides, with as much respect as Del Toro has for Mignola, do you REALLY think he’d make all these choices without his consent? Come on dog. Not everyone reads comics as much as they watch movies these days.
April 3rd, 2008 at 2:10 pm
@Gah
Don’t get me wrong. I love Mignola’s palette. But I think the first HB tried and failed to partially create that moody feel. The only way I can see Mignola’s style working in live action is with total green screen ala Sin City. But that’d be a rather empty stylistic gesture. I do agree that the stark colors alone give HB the graphic novel an unique edge. But I laud GDT for paying homage to the other great aspect of Mignola’s creation: the wild mystical stuff. Anyhow, I think even Mignola used quite a few dashes of color in his production sketches for the first HB film.

The trailers as poorly cut together as the first Indy IV trailer. Looks good though and appears to promise alot more action than the first. Still the trailers a mess. Wonder what the general public will make of it.
April 3rd, 2008 at 2:24 pm
this is the reason why i want del toro to direct the last harry potter. i guess its never too late….right?
April 3rd, 2008 at 2:29 pm
Awesome! I would have loved the first Hellboy more if there was more variety of monsters, and this one looks like it will have plenty of them. I can’t wait, I hope people show up as well.
April 3rd, 2008 at 2:33 pm
That’s a fine trailer, much better than the first. Still, low on the list of movies on my radar. Had this been a slower summer I’d be a little more excited about it.
April 3rd, 2008 at 3:06 pm
@ ID
David Hyde Pierce isn’t in the film as the voice of Abe Sapien anymore. Doug Jones, who plays the character (and many others) is being allowed to lend his voice talents for the role.
And is that a Rammstein song playing through the trailer? I’ve heard it many times over, but my mind is at a loss as to whom it belongs to.
April 3rd, 2008 at 3:12 pm
I’m a little ashamed to say this, especially after seeing all the comments from such big fans of the first film… but, until now I had zero-interest in seeing this film. However, I can’t believe that I’m saying this, but the trailer has completely won me over, and this movie… is starting to show more promise than a large chunk of the summer movies that I was planning on seeing. Wow, what an amazing trailer!
April 3rd, 2008 at 3:49 pm
did anyone notice the monster at the end?
How much of a cheap rip off he is of clovie?
man it sucks they couldnt find they’re own monster
If I was J.J I’d be pissed
April 3rd, 2008 at 3:52 pm
AlanGeiss,
I hope your comments are meant as sarcasm. The internet has ruined my sarcasm radar for years now. So please excuse my comment.
April 3rd, 2008 at 4:09 pm
anyone know the song?
April 3rd, 2008 at 4:27 pm
Its the one played in Lilya 4-Ever right? If so, its Mein Herz brennt.
April 3rd, 2008 at 4:58 pm
This movie is looking great so far!
@gah: you should check out the pilot for The Amazing Screw-on Head, if you haven’t. That’s how an animated Hellboy should look like. It was like watching a Mignola comic coming to life!
April 3rd, 2008 at 5:29 pm
WOW! That looks incredible! Seriously. GDT has some amazing creatures there, even if the film sucked, it would be worth watching for the creatures and enemies.
BTW…the main bad guy, he looks like The Witcher.
Also, GDT should do the film adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “Neverwhere”. It would be 10000000000000 times better than that crappy BBC miniseries with the end monster (In the book, it sounded awesome, in the show, it was a cow with a costume on!)
April 3rd, 2008 at 5:38 pm
let it never be said that gdt don’t know what he’s doing. holy shit that looks good.
anybody know the main reasons people didn’t like the first one? i loved it, and i was thinking it was a timing thing, and that the majority of the public just didn’t really know how to react to the great film they were seeing (like peoples first reactions to borden’s transported man in the prestige - so good they didn’t know how to react). but comic/fantasy films have come a long way since then, & i think this’ll do way better.
April 3rd, 2008 at 7:02 pm
I love it! I love it! I love it!
OMG that’s amazing!
April 3rd, 2008 at 8:20 pm
@orange cinema
Haha love your The Prestige reference; u make a very good point. Also, we can’t forget the success of Del Toro with Pan’s Labyrinth and how that is going to put more asses on seats.
April 3rd, 2008 at 11:11 pm
awesome trailer, I laugh really hard when I read the comment about clovercrap monster.
nice to see del toro and mignola working together for this one too.
April 3rd, 2008 at 11:30 pm
This trailer sure did look a lot better then The Increduble Hulk trailer that was released a couple of weeks ago but personally I think Iron Man will be the one I go see in the cinemas and Hellboy 2 will be the one I rent on DVD, but I guess that is about personal preferences.
But out of the three Hellboy definitely have the best trailer at the moment.
April 4th, 2008 at 12:12 am
orange cinema,
Loved the first film along with tons of my friends. Even some who had never read or heard of Hellboy before. I’m a fan of the Directors Cut. I can’t get enough of Kroegen, Abe and Liz. This sequel seems to be throwing in a bigger much more livier world and finally one of my favorite Mignola creations Johann!
Selma also looks hot with that haircut and that new suit ;)
April 4th, 2008 at 12:25 am
Oops, meant “Kroenen”.
April 4th, 2008 at 7:36 am
that was awesome ^^
April 4th, 2008 at 10:07 am
hey agonoct
its true about the monster
they took J.J’s idea
April 4th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
@ AlanGeiss
Wow I didn’t know Abrams had a patent on tentacles.
April 4th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
Steelo,
Not to mention any creature resembling something “Lovecraftian”. Damn you Abrams for going back in time in your ABC funded time machine and dropping those ideas into HP Lovecrafts empty brain!!!!
*shakes tentacled fist in air*
April 4th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Okay, first, Del Toro is my new favorite director of all time. Second, if I were Edward Norton, I would be Sh..ing my pants right now trying to figure out how I can make the Hulk look even half as good as this movie.
I will be honest, the first movie didn’t shake me much. It was good, don’t get me wrong. But, this trailer has got me so friggin’ excited. I’ve never frothed over a trailer like this. Del Toro is a sick creative bastard who must make all movies I want to watch going forward. :)
April 4th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
Oh God! You woke up the baby! SO BADASS! I’m extremely pumped for the movie anyway, the trailers are just making the anticipation longer! I loved the first one & this one looks like it’ll be just as awesome, if not more…
April 5th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Hellno
April 6th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
April 8th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Other than the amazing visuals and a like for the first film, use of “Rammstein - Mein Herz Brennt” sold me :D
