Juno B-Sides: Almost Adopted Songs

Just when you though the Juno news posts on /Film had finally come to an end, we bring you news of a sequel… kinda.

The soundtrack to Juno was almost as big as the indie film sensation itself, hitting number one on the Billboard charts and becoming the best-selling album on the United States iTunes music store upon release and remaining so for more than ten weeks thereafter. So while a sequel to the film has been discounted by the filmmakers (at least for now), a sequel to the soundtrack has just been announced.

Rhino Records will be releasing “Juno B-Sides: Almost Adopted Songs,” a 15-track collection available exclusively through iTunes for $9.99 on April 8th. The album will then be available through all digital service providers on May 13th. Director Jason Reitman insists that this isn’t just a money grab, writing in the liner notes:

“None of these songs made the movie, but they are all essential members of the Junoverse.”

Here is the official track listing:

1. Twentieth Century Fox Fanfar - Kimya Dawson
2. Me and You - Barry Louis Polisar
3. My Wandering Days Are Over - Sebastian
4. Kite - Mateo Messina
5. Viva la Persistance
6. Little Baby - The Bristols
7. I’m Into Something Good - Jr. James & The Late Guitar
8. Meet The McGruffs - Mateo Messina
9. Once I Loved - Astrud Gilberto
10. All I Want Is You - Kimya Dawson (solo)
11. Learning the Game (single version) - Buddy Holly
12. Meet the Lorings - Mateo Messina
13. Besame Mucho - Trio Los Panchos
14. You Can Have It All 0 Yo La Tengo
15. Zub Zub - Ellen Page

You can Pre-order now on iTunes.

I’m not 100% on it, but I’m pretty sure track 3 is Belle & Sebastian
    not just Sebastian.

This is silly. If it’s not in the movie, it might as well be Jason Reitman’s Celebrity Playlist on iTunes. Kind of still a money grab.

And people think that DVD re-releases are bad. At least they contain the original material. This is outright ridiculous - I’m suprised Slashfilm even shows any support for it.

Didn’t Hackers develop enough of a cult following that they made a second soundtrack for it?

“Didn’t Hackers develop enough of a cult following that they made a second soundtrack for it?”

I think so. Friday spawned a second soundtrack, too.

This film business is all about making money, people, and this indie outing is milking it for all its worth. Tell me you wouldn’t. All the best to ‘em, I say and good on ‘em, too! But I won’t be buying this…

You know, as much as it is a bit of a money grab, it also works on some level.

I was really big on the Garden State soundtrack. I loved Colin Hay and Loved The Shins so I loved the rest of the soundtrack as well. If they came out with a second soundtrack, as much as it would be like Zach Braff’s celebrity playlist, I would probably discover a few more great bands because of it.

A number of movies have spawned second soundtracks like Trainspotting, the Wedding Singer, Boogie Nights, and “William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet,” …… but the thing about those soundtracks is I believe that they all contained music from the movies that hadn’t made the original soundtrack because the movies all had a ton of music and they had to make certain decisions about what to fit on, etc. That I can understand.

This, on the other hand, is silly.

When I read the word “Junoverse” I thought…Juno can now take a flying fuck through a rolling doughnut.

LOL you just won the internet.

There’s a total of three soundtracks. Sadly, I own them all…

Um, money grab! BTW Peeto, I finally saw Juno, and have now thus seen many of 2007’s supposedly “great films” (except for There Will Be Blood and Gone Baby Gone): Juno, Into The Wild, Sweeney Todd, American Gangster, In The Valley Of Elah, Michael Clayton, Atonement, No Country For Old Men, The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford, The Diving Bell And The Butterfly, La Vie En Rose, The Counterfeiters, Eastern Promises, We Own The Night, Charlie Wilson’s War, The Kite Runner,…. And Juno is second-worst to Michael Clayton in my eyes. There was nothing special about this movie, nor its stupid screenplay (seriously, Oscar?) and god the soundtrack was annoying! My Top 3 for 2007 is 1 - TAOJJBTCRF, 2 - The Diving Bell And The Butterfly, 3 -Atonement….sorry.

Happy: I’m sorry that you lack both a brain and a heart :)

And I’m sorry you can’t handle someone not agreeing with your taste in movies without insulting them.
