Derek Mears in Final Talks to Star as Jason Voorhees

At the bottom of a lake sits a film a la Rudy or The Rookie about a guy who conquers an Everest of doubt to fulfill his lifetime dream of playing Jason Voorhees in the latest Friday the 13th film. According to Bloody Disgusting, horror fans can add one more name to the legacy behind Crystal Lake’s lumbering, hockey-masked lothario; actor Derek Mears will play Jason in the 2009 reboot from director Marcus Nispel and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes. Mears is 6′5″ and previously starred as a misogynistic mutant in The Hills Have Eyes 2.

The last actor to suit up on screen as JV was Ken Kirzinger in the quite satisfying $82 million grossing hit Freddy vs Jason. Wait a second, Mears resume reads like a rap sheet: Thug #1, Bounty Hunter #3, Inmate #1, Skinhead #1, Mugger, Little Ed, the Milk Man. This guy has earned his entitlement to grip the world’s most famous machete.

    Kane Hodder should be playing Jason in the remake! He's been in 4 of the movies, more than anyone. He has the most experience, so why not pick the guy who can play Jason and do it incredibly well. I believe Kane Hodder is Jason Voorhees & Jason Voorhees is Kane Hodder!!

    kane hodder was by far the definitive jason.iwould like to see him again but i dont make those descions.friday fans should be heard on this issue after all we go to see the movies.ill give this movie a shot cause im a fan but mears better pull this off.even if he does pull it off i still would like to see kane at least one more time.i do hope in this version much like zombies halloween more about exactly how jason became jason
