American Teen / Breakfast Club Posters

Since it’s premiere at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, movie critics have been comparing this year’s best film (so far) American Teen to John Hughes’ 80’s teen classic The Breakfast Club. Paramount Vantage has decided to run with this idea, and curb the marketing for the film (or at least the poster) around the idea of a modern day real life Breakfast Club. I’ve been more apt to compare it to Fast Times at Ridgemont High, but the Breakfast Club comparison works just as well because of the social class system of the characters followed.

My good friend Neil at Film School Rejects was able to get his hands on the poster art for the July 25th release. Click on the image below to enlarge.

The Blonde looks pretty hot. The other girl’s cute too. The guys looks goofy though. The guy wearing the glove looks like he could be a teen from the original Breakfast Club. And haven’t we had enough films with the title American in them in the past decade?

I can understand some of the tweaks that were done to the wardrobe, but why would someone still be sporting gloves if not an athlete or a racer of sorts. I know many crotch rocket riders to know you don’t sport fingerless gloves, or the type he’s wearing. I have seen the Breakfast Club back in the day, caught it as a teen, so I understood the movie then. Now, looking on this recycled script it may still appeal to this new generation as the other did for us back then. I still won’t watch it, but it doesn’t mean I will hate it when I eventually watch it. I told my little sister who is going to turn 13 to watch this, as she can’t stomach the older version.

Well THIS will confuse the fuck out of people when they remake The Breakfast Club… you know it will happen with the ridiculous remake trend these days. Oh, no - wait, hang on - that would have a new cliche’d ‘floating heads’ poster, huh. My bad. As you were.
