/Film Reader PixarSpy sent over an interesting update on Brad Bird’s live action feature debut adaptation of James Dalessandro’s 1906. As you may already know, the film follows a young man who discovers a series of secrets and lies that left San Francisco highly vulnerable to the fires that engulfed the city in the aftermath of the historical 1906 earthquake.
My spy tells me that Pixar is busy building scale models and rumor has it they are re-creating San Francisco in computer imaging, based on original photos taken from 1906. I’m hearing that it will look extremely authentic. Right now the studio is unofficially aiming for a Winter 2009 release.

A good friend actually own a house that was damaged in this quake. There is a huge crack that offsets the top of the fireplace, and continues up the wall into his bedroom. I aske him why he doesn’t get it fixed and he said that the person that sold him the house said it makes the house more valuable.
WTF?!?!
To me it’s more of a reminder of what didn’t happen before and could eventually (most likely in our lifetime) happen again.
The storyline is sounding a little bit Dante’s Peak-ish Peter. what do you think?

Jezzus: the real estate market (or any antique market for that matter) never makes any sense. Actually, I haven’t read the book, but plan to pick it up this week. I’ve heard nothing but great things about it. I also trust that Brad Bird can’t make a bad film, and he has the record to prove it.

I saw Dalessandro talk about shopping “1906″ to Spielberg and Sonnenfeld as a film after completing the novel last year at CINEQUEST, so I purchased it immediately. A pretty strong story — I bet it will be a big hit, especially internationally.
It’s got all the right elements — an intelligent, resourceful hero, a smart and strong female co-lead, special effects and plenty of gangsters and corrupt politicians. As a San Franciscan, I’m really looking forward to seeing this on the big screen.
