Star Wars Muppets

Disney has released photos of an upcoming series of action figures of Disney / Muppet Characters dressed as Star Wars characters. The Disney characters will be sold individually for $9.95, and include Mickey Mouse as Anakin, Minnie Mouse as Amidala, Goofy as Jar Jar, Donald Duck as Darth Maul, and Stitch as Yoda. These figures will be on sale inside Disney Theme Park Gift shops by early June 2008.

The Muppets Star Wars figures will be packaged separately or in a boxed set. Characters include Kermit as Luke Skywalker, Miss Piggy as Princess Leia, Beaker as C3PO, Fozzie as Chewbacca, Rizzo as Yoda, and Gonzo as Darth Vader. These non-articulated pvc figures will be released in July at the Disney Theme parks’ gift shops.

There’s not a single shred of dignity left in the Star Wars franchise now is there?

They currently sell the Disney ones at the Star Tours store and other shops in Disney World. I picked up the Darth Goofey when I was there in September.

I don’t think they had any Muppet ones even in the Muppet shop, so those look new.

They also have other mr. potato head star wars characters at Star Tours than you can get at other stores on line from Hasbro, i picked a few of those up too

    Those Muppets look way cool.
Although it feels weird not having Han Solo and R2D2. I’d have made Scooter as Han Solo, and would have done Statler and Waldorf as R2 and C3PO instead of Beaker.
Sam Eagle would have made a good Obi Wan, while the Swedish Chef be made into Jabba the Hutt.
Also, what’s with the really tall Gonzo? It would have been way better making him shorter, like in the poster above.

I really love that cute chewbacca and that Darth Duck. But the helmet of Darth Vader looks kinda weird to me.

Bopper: Let’s see… Yes, we feature a lot of cool Star Wars stuff, but only 3 of the last 14 Cool Stuff stories involved Star Wars. You can check the archives for yourself.

A little touchy about your Cool Stuff, eh Peter?

Bopper: Not really, people love it, the cool stuff posts get more pageviews than big news reports, so I know the readers love em. I just don’t understand the inaccuracy of your criticism.

I love the wonderful synergy between these franchises. The marriage of the Muppets, Disney and Star Wars brings together some of the most beloved characters from many people’s childhood (including my own), and might also serve to introduce a new generation to the Muppets characters as well. Looking forward to heading to Walt Disney World in June for Star Wars Weekends and picking these up for my personal collection.
