How fun is this dude’s job? Over at AICN, yet more spy pics have surfaced of Johnny Depp as ’30s gangster John Dillinger along with some of his fellow goons in Michael Mann’s Public Enemies. Still no sign of co-star Christian Bale’s fed. The wardrobes, fedoras, cars and tommy guns are all spot on; even the money bag looks mind blowing. Okay, maybe that’s utter hyperbole but if someone told you “the bag is yours if you tap dance and whistle” we’d have a Slashfilm jamboree on our hands.

Like I’ve said - this is possibly Mann’s most commercially accessible flick to date. Hope it rakes in the moolah so he can make his Dicaprio led 1930’s Hollywood noir flick.

I was an extra for a scene shot last wednesday. Dillinger’s Araignment in Crowne Point Indiana. Lili Taylor was also in the scene, playing Sheriff Holley.
I’m writing up my experience tomorrow, and I’ll shoot you guys a link when I’m done.

I had the honor and privilege to see Johnny Depp on Mar. 20th, Apr. 14th and
Apr. 17th while he was filming “Public Enemies.” The first time was in Columbus, Wisc. At the end of the day’s shoot, Johnny shook hands with the fans and was so gracious and kind. He thanked Columbus and its fans. He even bowed to his fans. I was only about 3 feet from him. I had a difficult time getting the chance to shake his hand.
However, on Apr. 14th and 17th when the film was shooting in Oshkosh, Wis., I was able to see Johnny in a scene where the Dillinger Gang was fleeing the scene of a bank robbery. After each take, the actors would walk back to their beginning mark down the street. Johnny smiled & waved to his fans, tipped his hat and even did a little dance step. The crowd went wild including me!! And after both days of full day shooting, Johnny once again came out to shake everyone’s hands. I even got to talk with him as he warmly held my hand on both nights.
Johnny Depp is such a great guy and great actor. There is nothing “Hollywood-big star” about him. He truly likes his fans!! Thanks, Johnny for the memories. I have many wonderful photos of you as Dillinger and as yourself. I can’t wait to see “Public Enemies” on the silver screen in 2009!!
