The movie trailer for Meet Dave, Eddie Murphy’s Norbit follow up, has hit the web. Directed by Brian Robbins (Ready to Rumble, The Shaggy Dog, Norbit), Meet Dave stars Eddie Murphy as an alien spaceship in human form. A crew of miniature aliens operate are trying to save their planet, but encounter a new problem, as their ship becomes smitten with an Earth woman (played by Elizabeth Banks). Looks pretty horrible… maybe it will be nominated for an Academy Award. Watch in horror for yourself below.

Are you implying that Norbit did not deserve its Academy Award nomination for best makeup effects? If you are, then you’re slightly completely insane, because not only did it deserve the nomination - it was ROBBED for the win.
You need to separate the fact that it was a shite movie from the fact that the makeup effects were some of the best ever done, by the master of all effects, Richard Baker.

Don’t diss the Pluto Nash, guy who remembers. It was better than the rest of the ones you listed. I actually think it was a little underrated.
That said, I think this could have been really good if executed entirely differently. Cool concept, horrible execution.

Oh, and imdb somehow has a ridiculously long cast list, yet nowhere on that list is Marc Blucas, who is clearly in the trailer. Weird.

This movie was in turnaround and had absolutely no chance of being made until Norbit made the money it did. Really, who goes to these things?
As for the Academy Award, I am sorry but any movie with fat suits should be instantly disqualified. They stopped being funny or unique 15 years ago.
As for the title, I have to agree. Starship Dave was far better than Meet Dave.
All I can say is, “where did 48 Hours Eddie go?” “Where did Coming to America Eddie go?” “Where did Beverly Hills Cop go?” Well at least Beverly Hills Cop 1 and the first 48 Hours movie.

Norbit’s makeup… blew; was Halloween-ish. I think the academy was confused because at times no makeup was used to achieve character effects… CGI superimposed Eddies stupid head on a fat woman’s actual body. That’s an effect. Not makeup. The Asian father was terribly terribly done. And not just his accent. They just slathered one coat of flat yellowish skin tone on it and that was it. Wow amazing.
For the record I’m not Asian so don’t dismiss this as vindictive bias.

I have loved Eddie Murphy since the first Nutty Professor. I have seen ever movie since then and I will continue to see these movies because they are the best movies ever made. I’m sick of people saying that Norbit was horrid when THEY NEVER SAW IT, hands down one of the funniest movies of all time. I think everyone who comments on this webpage are idiots and wouldn’t know an amazing movie if it bit them in the behind. You actually never saw Beverly Hills Cop or Trading Places or Coming To America? Hell what about the Golden Child? And these are just Eddie movies, not counting things like The Godfather or Pulp Fiction which are regarded as some of the best movies ever made.

I have in fact seen every movie made by Eddie Murphy but Nutty Professor was the first I had seen because of my age. I have also in fact seen God Father Part I II & III as well as Pulp Fiction not to mention I have also had to sit through Citizen Cane twice because of school. I am a junior in high school and will be going to film school once I graduate and plan on making comedies. I knew posting my comment would get a rise out of the majority of you and it worked. Open your mind and look at what Hollywood has become movies like Norbit will be the norm from now on because people with half a brain enjoy the movies like that. If you do not like these types of movies then so be it but I do not see the need to post crude comments about them. I would guess that most of you enjoyed movies like Talladega Nights and Napoleon Dynamite which I would put on the same caliber as Norbit. It may have been a stretch to say it was the best movie ever but I think it was one of the best movies of last year. I saw all the movies that were nominated for best film and I think Juno is the only one that deserved to be nominated. So please don’t go talking smack without knowing me. I see many movies and enjoy many movies I just think that a lot of people on this website and many sites I visit are extremely closed minded. That’s all for now.

What…the…fuck…Not another human spaceship movie. You don’t have to smoke weed to know this is a landmark meta picture. Although I’m pretty sure it was an Aqua Teen Hunger Force episode. And I’m still waiting for Rob Schneider’s “The Stapler”, but Meet Dave should hold me over on the surreal front. A Spaceship is a perfect fit for Eddie Murphy too even more so than a dragon or donkey. They should call it Men in a Black. MY MIND man seriously though Eddies got the dual/trio roles down, good way to make extra money too. Eddie Murphy is the planet and were all just spaceships flying around on it.
