Photo Removed at Request From Fox Legal

Troy Mustang snapped this photo of one of the Mexican film sets for 20th Century Fox’s big screen live action adaptation of Dragonball. As always, click to enlarge. Not sure what the scene involves, but the photo is pretty cool. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3rd 2009.

Discuss: Is there any chance that Dragonball will actually be good?

dude, i think im too old to get this dragonball thing at all.

  3. Gravatar

I have faith in Chow yun fat… he doesnt make too many bad films… So this one has a chance. a 50/50 chance.

anyways, that photo looks cool…gonna use it as a wallpaper.

  4. Gravatar

No. No there is no chance it will be good. Sorry.

  5. Gravatar

It looks like a creator after one of Goku’s kamakama Blast.

To answer your question Peter, a resilient and loud, “Hell Naw!”

  9. Gravatar

i’m still tripping out that they’re actually making this. i wanna see more photos, i gotta see what they’ve been working with.

  10. Gravatar

Why no, no it does not have a chance at being good.

    1) They casted a skinny stick-looking metrosexual as Goku and his hair in the movie looks like the guitarist from Green Day.

    2) It’s directed by James Wong. He’s done a few movies, all which were terrible. Here’s what he’s done so far.

    i) The One
    ii) Final Destination
    iii) Final Destination 3

    3) Goku goes to High School, photos were released of Chatwin in character hiding from a group of fashionable metrosexual bullies. That’s not something the true Goku would ever do.

He wants to make it a trilogy but only will if they get a lot of money. If not, then we might actually get a good sequel with other people in charge. Hopefully in all-CGI which would be perfect for a big screen adaptation. Not this live-action crap.

Dragonball is going to be soooooooo alwsome!!!!!!!!!
    There went all out….
How did they make a volcano that fast???? Wow!!!! I can’t wait to see this movie. Will Goku and King Piccolo be fighting in there? WHoa Im starting to get that seem feeling I had when “Star wars episode I” came out. GO “Dragonball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Gravatar

    forget dragonball… when are
we going to see live movies
of : RECORD OF LODUS WAR, VAMPIRE HUNTER D
    and the ever popular…BERZERK????????????????:)

  13. Gravatar

Why isn’t this direct to DVD? This looks terrible.

  14. Gravatar

I would have been a little be more enthused had Stephen Chow been behind this. But like most ppl posted, have you seen Gokou?! Geezus did they really fcuk this movie up bad. And I mean Emmy Rossum as Bulma is great! I think Chow as Roshi is good too! Everything else. Pure BS.

  15. Gravatar

in a way, im kinda glad hollywood is making this because knowing japanese film making, besides drama adapatation, theyll probably fuck it up with long boring useless dialog and horrible editing.

but i admit, i did enjoy death note and nana. what i would love to see, besides evangelion and robotech, is a lupin live action. now thats classic!

  16. Gravatar

GregoryV is totally right!! Im also happy to see Dragonball be produce by 20th century Fox. It looks like Fox is doing an amazing job with Dragonball so far, from looking at the picture above. If you ever watched Dragonball before you would know that picture above is true to the anime. I really hope all the pictures turn out as good as this, because that setting looks amazing. They went all out!! I am so excited right now!! I can’t wait to see more pics….

  17. Gravatar

This said it all “Goku goes to High School, photos were released of Chatwin in character hiding from a group of fashionable metrosexual bullies. That’s not something the true Goku would ever do.”

WTF is this about Goku was a numbnut when it came to books. He was a fighter. As for Chatwin…….. I’m not convined yet and don’t think I will be.

What is the green goo about?

I’m abit nervous about this film. =/

  18. Gravatar

I second the lupin adaptation. That would be awesome. As for dragonball, I’m not even a fan of the show, but I’ve seen a few of the episodes with a friend who’s into it, and this film is going to suck balls. Who cares about the backstory? I’m sure the fans and even people who don’t know anything about this, would prefer a solid action/sci-fi film about the dragonballs, NOT gokus high school career.

But seriously, someone get on that Lupin film!

  19. Gravatar

I think that this is a fight scene towards the end of the film, the set looks like the fight scenes in the cartoons. I have some faith in this film now with the look of that set

  20. Gravatar

doesnt matter if its good or not, they gave all the DB, DBZ, DBGT nerds what they want, critics could take it a part but DBZ has a cult following it should make alot of money on opening day

  21. Gravatar

Im with GregoryV, Im still amazed that this is actually happening. I was a big Dragonball/dragonball Z/dragonball GT (whatever you wanna call it) but Im thinking this movie is about a couple years too late. But I still have high hopes for this movie. The casting is ok, I think Emmy Rossum and James Marsters were good choices, hell even Jamie Chung (from the real world) looks to be ok but Justin Chatwin? I seen some of his movies and they were good but idk. I seriously hope when I see this movie it doenst end up being one of those movies where Im laughing because Im embarrassed for the scene.

  22. Gravatar

okay guys, please not that this is an adaptation…..

    no, seriously…..

guys and gals, this could be the must see film of 2009, genuinely because of dragonball and dragonball z’s cult following. again, i say it is an adaptation of the story. cos really there is’nt alot of uber realistic stuff in dragonball. i mean, lets face it, a direct move from the manga/anime would be completely the wrong way to go.

athropomorphic pigs? now really, who wants to see that. ever. gayboy white aliens who have girly voices. why would you want that? i think the characterisation is pretty much dead on for this kind of thing; a modernisation of an anime show. and seriously, who said the entire film was about goku’s high school career? cos whoever even thought that should really be shot. really, really, shot.

(and sausage, i think they tend to use green stuff to add digital effects to a shot)

(and it looks like a crater)

  23. Gravatar

    okay guys…..

first off; sausage, to be honest, it looks more like a crater, and the green goo is probably for a special effects shot, kind of like green screen stuff.

second, this is an adaptation of a classic 20th century manga/anime, so get off the backs of the cast and director. there is no way they could make it exactly like the tv show. (so keep your anthropomorphic pigs and cats, and your weird eely aliens.)

and thridly, if its entertaining, ill watch it. really, it can never be the same as the tv show, but that’s good, cos if it were, it would be rediculous. really rediculous. an adaptation is fine, really.

and the casting is, quite frankly, spot on. goku should feel like a sympathetic, everyman character, and not just another freaky alien, and i think justin chatwin can bring that to the role. and james marsters as piccolo is perfect, as is chow as master roshi.

but whoever thought this would just be about goku’s high school life wants to have an mri scan. i mean really……

  24. Gravatar

okay, sorry for adding two comments that basically mean the same thing. pay more attention to the 2nd one, as it is less offensive and argumentative.

  25. Gravatar

It must be good. It should be good. In fact it should be damn good because this Dragonball comic is a masterpiece. Somebody who ruined it should be cursed and being kept in the bottle.

  26. Gravatar

In answer to your question up top: no.

This has been another edition of simple answers to simple questions.

  27. Gravatar

    remove ? remove ? …. Noooooooooooo

  28. Gravatar

All people here know that huge db fans work on this film?
James Masters, Brain Tyler (Music), Stephen Chow…and many other people, too i think!
Justin Chatwin has read the manga!
Emmy Rossum like her character very!

Chow Yun-Fat as Master Roshi will be great, too!

We all Fans or not, must see how the movie will be!
    Yes i think it is a 50/50 chance! ;)

But i hope the movie will rock!

  29. Gravatar

i wont go 2 theatre but im goin 2 download it, and they can fukc with no money cause every1 ll do that :) i hope so -_-”

  30. Gravatar

Why did Fox remove it???? NOooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!
    that picture looked so alwsome
I hope we get more like it soon

  31. Gravatar

Um chill out about the high school crap hes gonna be in school for like 10 mins of the movie possibly because bulma wants to make him more civilized makes some friends they study the moon goku changes at one point …id like to see a oozaru vs piccolo scene piccolo cuts off his tail…but i think yamacha will cut it off it anything if they have his tail in it… then hes gonna be searching for the dragonballs with bulma and yamcha he fights piccolos demons on every way to the dragonballs goes to a tourny and fights piccolo probably piccolo steals chichi, goku and the gang go to save her, some people die piccolo is defeated and they just wish back the friends with their wish.. ends with gohan being born and the crash landing of a space ship DUN DUN DUNNNNN! the high school crap will only be brief more screen time of training fighting and venturing out for the dragonballs. this movie is going to rock even if things are altered and there is so much more we don’t even know about the movie so relax you can all hate after you have watched the film.

  32. Gravatar

im curious as to what this movie will look like.maybe 7-10 years ago i would have said no because alot of tv,video game ,and comic book adaptions sucked(remember mortal combat and street fighter)but now they’re doing a pretty good job.matter of fact,i did hear about them remaking street fighter but making the movie revolve around chun li.a movie adaption i would looove to see,but know they would compare it to a jurassic park rip off…altho the comic book and cartoon came out way before it,would be caddilacs and dinosaurs!! i could see spieldberg making that.

  33. Gravatar

Some people here are either really brainwashed by all the Americanization in the introduced DB manga and anime, or totally brainwashed by Hollywood into thinking anything Hollywood makes must be great.

This shot is CONCRETE EVIDENCE that the movie is going to SUCK, and people over in Japan and other Asian countires are mobilizing boycotts against it as we speak. So for those anticipating this movie: time to wake up from your fantacies.

  34. Gravatar

Oh my gosh, Vivi what makes you think Chatwin read the manga. He didn’t have a clue about what DB was in that video interview, there’s some evidence that he didn’t.

  35. Gravatar

Look, Vivi all I’m saying is just because some jerk writes down that Chatwin read the manga doesn’t mean it’s true.

  36. Gravatar

i missed this post and i was just wondering if someone still had this photo? i would like to see this. sounds intresting.
