By just the new preview, it looks terribly disappointing ! This movies needs to be a cross between remake and sequel. The mail character should be someone like Klaatu's son, they need more tie ins to the original. Keanu looks like the worst actor for this roll they could have picked. Too commercial. Nor credible. And what of the soundtrack, how could they ever do justice to Herman's original. I hope that only the preview is lame, but I don't have much hope. Cripe, why not get Patricia Neal to do a cameo or something. Something to satisfy the long itch us fans of the original have been longing for. Guess I'll have to wait for the release. Remaking Independence Day might work if they do it where the aliens win and mankind is defeated - Jeff Goldblum doesnt hack into an alien computer with ease and Wil Smith doesnt learn to fly an alien spacecraft in 30 seconds. The recent remake of Omega Man (I Am Legend) was ok but it was basically the same as the original except it had alot of ugly CGI zombies and animals. Omega man was actually another sequel that was better than the one with Vincent Price which was rather corny as I kept expecting Michael Jackson to pop up.
