John Rambo, stayin’ alive? Today on Screen Daily it was reported that Rambo 5 is scheduled to film in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia. Nu Boyana Studios, a substantive production house for Southeastern Europe, is building 10 new sound stages in the area, and apparently the next installment in the Sylvester Stallone war-vet franchise is booked first in line.
Since the January release of the fourth Rambo, the best hardcore action film in a while (10/10), Stallone has waffled considerably on whether a Rambo 5 will happen. He’s hinted that he hopes to take the character into a “slightly different genre,” leaving many fans to speculate sci-fi or a more comic bookish approach, only to deaden those rumors. Recently he’s reverted back to the “new genre” line, amidst yet more rumors of making Cliffhanger 2: The Dam. Exhausted yet?
Harvey Weinstein was quick to announce his hunger for a follow-up to Rambo, but if the sequel will indeed film in Bulgaria, that would go against his and fans’ desire to see Rambo return to America. I’d rather see a 5 than Sly’s planned Death Wish remake or, especially, Cliffhanger 2, and I think the sentiment will catch on more once the flick hits DVD. More on this if/when it develops.
Discuss: What is the best action film you’ve seen recently that wasn’t a Western or a video game/comic book/fantasy adaptation?

Uh for the sake of it I’ll say Rambo just cause I can’t think right now.
March 19th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
Is this real? This is so f*** stupid!
March 19th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
Wasn’t a fan of “Rambo,” so I don’t really welcome a fifth film.

I haven’t seen Rambo yet, but the best action film I’ve seen recently that falls under your criteria is Hot Fuzz, without a doubt. I know it’s in many ways a parody, but…
The last twenty minutes of that movie = me needing a change of panties.

In Bruges, not really an action movie, but so very, very good

Kudos for Stayin’ Alive reference.
Best last action flick I saw was The Bourne Ultimatum, and I saw John Rambo.

Best action film I’ve seen recently was “Shoot ‘Em Up”. A close second would be “Crank”.

Just say no to Rambo 5.
Rambo 4 was brilliant. A perfect ending to a series of movies that lost their way. Don’t push it, Sly. Let it end…
And the best recent action flick I saw was Rambo…hands down.
March 20th, 2008 at 8:31 am
“Shoot ‘Em Up” was definitely the best action movie I’ve seen of late.
March 20th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
If he comes back for a 5th…then the ending to 4 makes no sense. Does he go home only to check his mail and get a change of clothes??
And if he’s honestly going to do a sequel It should be:
Over the Top 2: Way over the top!
He’s a Space trucker this time, and he arm wrestles aliens to win back the respect of his son who hates him for no reason until he enters the universe-wide arm wrestling competition on Planet Las Vegas.
March 20th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
hooray for arm wrestling space truckers!
i have a theory that stallone is actually insane. he must live only in a fantasy in his mind, a world which loves his movies and thinks he is a genius of a filmmaker. only a complete pyschopath would have the confidence to make a rambo 5. please institutionalize this man.

I watched the new Rambo twice in theaters plus downloaded it and watched a few times, it was awesome. On a side note, ya, i got no life. I wouldn’t mind seeing more heads being removed from torsos in number 5

What about “Tango and Cash 2″? I can’t wait….
March 21st, 2008 at 11:09 am
For the love of God (or gods), please no, no more. Enough with the sequels starring geriatric stars who can’t come up with anything new to save their flaccid careers.
Mr. Stallone: time to pack it in and move to that nursing home in LA for retired actors. Okay, that’s just for down-and-out former actors. Just find a secluded island somewhere (see Brando, Marlon) and get your @ss off of our movie screens once and for all.

@ Jonny
Really digging your OTT2 idea mate. How about Stallone’s character goes to Hell and has to arm wrestle the devil with Hitler, Pol Pott and Idi Amin watching? Imagine the sweat! A movie screen couldn’t fit the veins in.

Best action film recently…lemme think on that…Borne.

I am new to Rambo but just seen all four films within a few weeks and top class action movies they are. I like Rambo 4 best of all mainly because of the woman who plays an excellent role full of angst, fear, hysteria and horror. I would like to see her again in Rambo 5, and hope that Rambo 5 will be made and also Rambo 6 as well. John Wantling, Rochdale, UK

May 22nd, 2008 at 8:17 am
Rambo II is the best rambo film i believe in the franchise, with first blood in the second place and Jhon Rambo in the third. It would be a great idea to make a 5th Rambo showing how jhon wraps up things in america, and kick of the butt of the sheriff of arizona:)

My dad introduced me to Rambo and the Rocky movies.. Fell in love with them ever since.. But i was disappointed with Rambo 4. I was expecting for you to use more of your stealth like moves, and and showing off your muscles… I don’t know if he’s still alive, but it would have been cool to put in the colonel from the earlier movies.. Oh, and your nife! That was supposed to be all you!! Only you can have that nife! Not the other guy!! Thats one of the few things what makes Rambo so cool!!!!
May 27th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
they should make a fifth one where the Iraqis make there way to America and Rambo helps having them end it where it started a fight in the USA
May 29th, 2008 at 3:55 am
They should bring back Rambo to America, in which he trains soliders for Iraq. Doesnt matter any way the whole series is screwed. How can a veitnam verteran do all this shit it makes no sense. Rambo doesnt even have any veitnam flashbacks like he did in the first film.
Loved the first film, no. 2 and 3 are really good. But when i saw 4 i was just throwing shit at the cinema screen, what a load!!!! The characte of rambo isnt even heroic like he was in the first 3, just soem gloomy guy BORING!
May 29th, 2008 at 3:59 am
I new rambo 4 was crap from the trailer. The digital colours, the crap music. It was mean to be an 80’s remake with the guy saying
FIRST IT WAS FOR HIM SELF
THEN FOR HIS COUNTRY
NOW..FOR A FRIEND
and then BANG
RAMBO III (in big red letters)
rambo 4 didnt even have the red letter, were are they!!! there white!! oh stallone u got it all wrong the whole thign is screwed. If Stallone bungs up rambo 5 i will personaly never purchase another one of his films, i’m sick of it.
May 29th, 2008 at 4:01 am
oh and those marines intorduced in rambo 4, they were soooo…. boring!

I’m not to excited about another rambo movie..he’s went home what more is there to tell, now what they ought to do is get sly to do a voice over and abit of making into a Full throttle gore loaded Rambo video game, with Today’s tech and and systems what not it will be a diamond in the roff no question..I’d write Sly myself with this idea if i had his email..anyone who see’s my idea is not at all worth it just write me back at my email brijaro@netzero.com :)
