there is nothing tougher than directing a successful classic western (or any classic genre film for that matter) in modern cinema. With so many temptations to stray from true feel, not 1 minute of unforgiven does. Its tough to watch maggie's tragedy, but just as tough to know munny is a damned man, no matter what he does. All the while we are watching a western that feels as though it was shot over 30 or 40 years ago.

Great choice, Hunter.

I would say Letters from Iwo Jima. It's a brilliant movie that is both entertaining, and artistic.

Eastwood films such as Flags/Letters & Mystic River have surpassed Unforgiven for me so I can't agree with you on that. His best movie is Million Dollar Baby, a brilliantly acted & directed film & a much tougher work of art than Unforgiven. Good call on Perfect World though. Curiously underrated & arguably Costner's best acting ever.

People don't bring up A perfect world, because there is this underlying hatred for Kevin Costner out there that I just don't get.

I think Mystic River would be my pick, however you can't discount Million Dollar Baby.

i love that you properly said, "after Unforgiven", as I completely agree. i'd say his 2nd best is million dollar baby, with high plains drifter closely behind.

I'd say Mystic River.

Eastwood is a living legend - I'm glad he's coming back in front of the camera.

Wow. No one ever ever mentions A Perfect World, but it is a great choice. Nice pick, Hunter. Now let's see if some clown argues for Blood Work.
