The characters did make this film as good as it was, and it will be interesting to see how well Duffy can better the sequel. I have never been big on sequels as they have never lived up to the first, however I do believe that Duffy will be able to exceed our expectations. Honestly, the movie has a sketchy plot and plenty of cliches to go around, but it was the characters that made it endearing. The MacMannus brothers remind you of people you would actually know, and I would love to see them on the screen again. As for it actually happening: we'll see.
