Today I received an e-mail tip from /Film reader Al M, regarding the #1 video on YouTube today, which has over 1.1 million views.

It looks like a tape of a government shooting that happened on March 11th, and there’s a whole backstory about this guy who gets fired from his gov’t job and leaked this tape yesterday.”
I have no idea what this viral video is for, but it looks like it might be for a movie. It should be noted that I’m 99% sure this is not related to discussed Cloverfield sequel.
Update: It looks like it might be related to Quarantine, Screen Gems’ American remake of [Rec], which hits theaters in October.
Discuss: Anyone have any ideas?

With the CDC (Center for Disease Control) on the scene, it makes me think this would be more related to some apocalyptic-type movie like The Happening, or I Am Legend, than Cloverfield.
Anything scheduled for early summer that might fit the bill?

Definitely not from Diary of the Dead.
I don’t know anything about the Quarantine flick, so I can’t say either way.
Could it be a viral for the release of that Spanish Zombie Film [REC]?

Me and my bud watched [REC] a few weeks ago.. the youtube vid definitely seems familiar, in terms of how the spanish flick was shot. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s for Quarantine.

The Viral campaign is annoying, but is it worse than the aweful shakey camera crap ? I’m not waisting another dime on another movie that uses a shakey camera to “add to the realism” let alone for a Cloverfield sequel. Fool me once….

I like the first person cam kind of thing. I feel like Cloverfield made such a big deal out of it though, that it can’t really be repeated without some kind of backlash (see above).

For anyone who might be interested, there’s another video up on this guys account on youtube. It mentions a blog at lastpalmtree.blogspot.com, which is supposed to be the blog of a retired cop. There are some comments left by “Laura McCreedy” who is the wife of “Officer McCreedy”…
Well, if you look at the casting list of Quarantine, there’s an Officer McCreedy.

It’s definately not [REC] cause I saw it at Glasgow’s FrightFest and that footage isn’t in it. The whole film is set inside the apartment building once it gets locked down. The directors were at the screening and I asked how involved they were in the production of Quarantine, and they were kind of bitter about the whole thing, saying they were brought on set one day to see how things were going, and noticed how it was looking like a straight remake, just in english- no original artistic view, to paraphrase their broken english. It certainly looks like it could be from Quarantine, but it doesn’t fit in with what [REC]’s directors say is going down with the flick.

I saw the REC trailer…is the same thing…and i don’t think so is cloverfield….and about the guy who is posting in you tube…i have no idea but i don’t think is something about “Quarantine”…
The Hollywoood directors think we are stupids…is time they do something new, STOP REMAKES PLEASE!!!…i hate remakes cause is crap….
For example: Shutter….the asian version is the best…and american version is bullshit….. please stop remakes!!!! we want something fresh, something new…..i’m tired and sick of this…i hope next year found something interesting in the american movies….
