I think they're positioning it as "not a flop".

>As I first reported Friday night, Horton Hears a Who will officially become the all-time 4th-best March opening (trailing 300, Ice Age: the Meltdown and its predecessor Ice Age), the 4th-best opening for an animated film from Fox (behind The Simpsons Movie and the 2 Ice Age films) and the 14th-best animated opening in modern box office history (scroll down to my Friday Night report for more detail).

You guys are parading these stats around like they're impressive. "4th best opening in March" is -not- an impressive stat. (If you can't outperform a movie like Ice Age, which tallied its revenues in 2002 dollars and didn't have any brand equity comparable to "Horton," then that is not impressive.) And "4th-best opening for an animated Fox film..." what other animated films has Fox done? Again, a completely underwhelming stat...

I'm not saying this movie is a bomb, and the reviews have been on the positive side...but why are you trying to position this as a blockbuster?
