Dear director P.J. Pesce and screenwriter Hans Rodionoff, please never cross my path in life. And please do a Spitzer.
Lost Boys: The Tribe (formerly Lost Boys 2: The Tribe) will (and should definitely) go straight to DVD in July. Buy a copy, attach it to a skateboard and run over it with your grandfather’s Jeep. Or don’t. Rent Hackers instead and imagine that all of the teen characters have fangs.
Discuss: Why did it take 21 years to make this pile?

March 12th, 2008 at 10:35 am
Wow. Burned Much?
Also, im outside the US, cant watch it :(
March 12th, 2008 at 10:45 am
Honestly, what were you expecting from this? It was pretty obvious that it would be bad.
March 12th, 2008 at 10:46 am
For anyone whom doesn’t want to on the mtv.com or is out of the states… http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=7892
March 12th, 2008 at 10:47 am
The instant sequel reflex hadn’t fully presented 21 years ago. Nowadays the sequels are generally planned before the first film comes out. Every movie must be pitched as a potential trilogy these days. To wring as much cash as possible out of an uncritical viewing public.
March 12th, 2008 at 10:51 am
Rezzo is right. What do you expect? I can’t believe how much this was hyped. Bottom line Corey, this ain’t going theatrical.
March 12th, 2008 at 10:51 am
yeah, that looks pretty awful.
March 12th, 2008 at 10:52 am
Doesnt even look good enough for SciFi channel…
March 12th, 2008 at 10:59 am
I’m still going to watch.
I can’t help myself.
March 12th, 2008 at 11:00 am
I think it looks like fun.
And i also believe that Hunter takes things a little to personal.
I think he/you has/have a “this sucks, that sucks, everything sucks”-kind of approach. Let’s wait and see, perhaps it will be good or even great, perhaps not. I’m just glad it’s being made since i really enjoy Lost Boys 1.
March 12th, 2008 at 11:03 am
It looks like it has about as much soul as a the bloodsuckers. ‘Course I’ll Netflix it, but that’s it.
March 12th, 2008 at 11:04 am
There Will Be A DVD Release
March 12th, 2008 at 11:06 am
@ Markus
Are you kidding me? Look at that trailer.
March 12th, 2008 at 11:06 am
Hunter is an opinionated asshole who thinks he has the best taste in movies. When in fact he is just a pretentious cynic who gives nothing a fair chance and will always judge a book by it’s cover.
He may be right about this movie, but as i’ve seen previous posts of his, he just doesn’t like Hollywood hogwash, which is the industry he is in… Maybe he should consider a new life choice.
March 12th, 2008 at 11:22 am
This looks like a bad episode of “Charmed”
March 12th, 2008 at 11:24 am
“I think it looks like fun.”
NO
March 12th, 2008 at 11:25 am
Aww leave Hunter alone…This is a pile. If nothing else it’ll be like a less attractive Buffy episode with the camp ramped up to 11.
March 12th, 2008 at 11:25 am
I feel bad that a hot actress like Autumn Reeser had to kill her future career by being in this movie, but did anyone else laugh at how serious Corey was when he was describeing it? I respected him back in the day, mainly because he did the voice of my favorite ninja turtle, but now I think he deserves the Oscar for most douche-bag actor.
March 12th, 2008 at 11:25 am
Aww, Hunter must have poo-pooed somebody’s favorite movie. Don’t worry Buddy, there’ll be plenty more hogwash.
March 12th, 2008 at 11:36 am
The original was classic and this LOOKS to be a copy of a bad Buffy episode. The vamp look is to close to the buffy, angel etc. style.
This could have been an instant classic but LOOKS to have fallen far from any hope of true vampiness……
March 12th, 2008 at 11:37 am
I’m gonna go on record and say this looks pretty much on-par with the first one (except the difference being that the first one is hilariously over-rated and this one wiill probably be seen for the vomitorium that it truly is).
March 12th, 2008 at 11:37 am
really, hunter, really? i think it looks a lot better than what i had anticipated. i mean, come on….if corey feldman is the biggest name in a movie, its pretty obvious said movie is going to be AT BEST a B-movie. Taking that into consideration, i don’t think this movie looks that bad.
March 12th, 2008 at 11:46 am
No sir, i am not kidding.
Thank you Matthew.
I think it’s gonna be a 5.5(perhaps 6)/10-kind of movie.
March 12th, 2008 at 11:57 am
Em, I’m not sure what your problem is Hunter - Any prospective sequel to The Lost Boys was an extremely bad idea (the concept hardly lends itself to another film, does it?), and this looks just about as good as it ever could be - at least from a director whose crowning achievement is Dusk Til Dawn 3.
What did you expect in the trailer that’s different/missing/not 100% expected??
March 12th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
they’ve ruined it, they’ve completely ruined it.
March 12th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
Was a vampire skateboarding?
March 12th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
Hunter, I’m sorry I called you a communist. Clearly, you knowing that this movie will be garbage indicts you’ve got decent taste. I wish I could say I’m shocked, but the original Lost Boys ain’t that great. Near Dark is much better.
Whatever. Corey should do another Friday the 13th.
I will never watch the Tribe. Ever.
March 12th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
I completely agree with Hunter, this does look pretty sheeshy. Who would have doubted that it wouldn’t have been?
The best they could come up with would be a mishmash of thirty-something-year olds running around in skeleton out-fits and skateboards all the while banging chicks way to fine to be hanging out with them. Sad.
That vampire hunter, I didn’t catch his name, looks more stoned that my pet rock named Skittles.
I hope it gets as much attention as Paris Hilton’s last movie did. What? You haven’t heard of it? My point exactly.
March 12th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
seriously… it’s only a trailer. Get over it. I’ve seen plenty of fun/good/decent movies with horrible trailers and plenty of horrible movies with awesome trailers…
*picks up a book* “Hmmm this book’s cover looks bad… so by extension the whole book must be bad!”
March 12th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
“Corey should do another Friday the 13th.”
He just has to wait until the ramake of #5. Or was it # 4, I forget. LOL!
Brian Spence has a really good point about the first not being exactly left open for the sequel treatment. I’d almost consider watching this just to see what kind of baffling, hair-brained explanation they offer up. He wasn’t the actually head head vampire?
March 12th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
Pat - are you Corey Feldman?
This is not comparable to a book cover, especially since it shows all the horrible special effects, acting, and dialogue that the movie will feature. If anything, this movie will make a good comedy during a pre-drink.
If anyone honestly thought or still thinks this movie would be something more than this, you’re dead to me.
March 12th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
Looks like they are trying to be Hip like Supernatural or Buffy.
Too bad they weren’t sucessful.
March 12th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
jeebus, its a green movie! they managed to recycle the first movie and even lift some of the first movie’s lines. Feldman’s DESPARATE for a paycheck, and he’s schillin’ this movie hard. What a stinkfest!!
March 12th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
“I’m Edgar Frog, surfboard shaper and vampire hunter”
:(
March 12th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
Until Hollywood gets their heads out of their arses… this kind of smut will taint our films. The best thing to do is not even watch it. What we need are our overpriced, recently off strike, Hollywood writers to actually do their job and be original… write some novel and new. Stop leeching to another’s success.
March 12th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
Maybe Hunter is a lost boy.
March 12th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
Oh Hunter, you slay me! “Pull a Spitzer!” how socially relevant you are!! Do you have writers for you? Do you write for the New Yorker?
Better yet, do you write for What Would Tyler Durden Do? Because your quips are awfully similar. But nonetheless genius, my boy. Right-o!
Oh, maybe you should pull a Spitzer yourself.
March 12th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
” I’m Edgar Frog, sideboard mender and dandruff
cruncher” :)
March 12th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
“You sisters a suck monkey”
March 12th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
It does seem that Hunter tries hard to imitate WWTDD’s style. Except for the whole being funny part. Besides, I don’t come here for that. That’s the problem, Hunter! People visit /film for news and insider information on movies. Not throwaway quips that could be heard at any coffee shop by the really really smart guy who isn’t afraid of reminding everyone that he’s really really smart. I don’t mind Hunter as a writer when he gives the info and moves on. It’s when the jokes start that gets a little awkward.
Peter, are you reading this? Or has it been deleted already?
March 12th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
I don’t mean anything bad towards Hunter. I really don’t. It’s just not the style this longtime /film reader wants to see the site adopt.
March 12th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
My brother and I will see this movie for nostalgia
reasons, however we are both prepared for it to be bad,
but we’re hoping it’s fun to laugh at bad. And will
probably have a couple of drinks before/during
the viewing.
No one can recreate the past greatness of the
first Lost Boys! The head vamp won’t have
the meancing presence of Kiefer and none of those
girls are even close to the hotness of Jamie Gertz.
March 12th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
I can’t see how anyone could have liked the first one, much less a sequel.
And I now know why Michael Jackson was so into hanging out with Corey Feldman, he was trying to learn his secret for not ageing.
March 12th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
Why Am I Commenting On This
March 12th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
Hunter is dead on. I hate how butthurt some fanboys get when they don’t get what they want or someone tries rain on their DTV sci-fi parade.
March 12th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
I haven’t been reading /film very long, but I have to say
I don’t quite understand all the Hunter hate. I might not
agree with his opinion sometimes and I sometimes think
he takes things a little too seriously, but he’s a good writer.
He also has a right to express his opinion, after all that
is his purpose for writing on this site.
The fact is a lot of us are super opinionated,
How many of you have ever REALLY read some of the comments
that follow?? If you disagree with him, cool, but some of
the name calling is seriously childish. Learn to debate
a little bit people! It’s healthy.
March 12th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
@Meli
He may not have been pro-Transformers enough for some or something. Who knows? Maybe he kinda liked Spiderman 3?
@Hunter
F these people. If they don’t like it they can start their own damn movie blogs.
March 12th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
Sigh. Why couldn’t they have made this not blow?
March 12th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
Well it looks like they f*cked that up eh………….
March 12th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Like the original “Lost Boys” this movie should not and will never amount to anything more than a “B” movie. You folks shouldn’t drill it so hard…it sucks, the production team knows it sucks, the actors probably think it sucks, but hell its part 2 of a cult classic and at least it has some continuity. Not sure how wine could taste like blood…but hey, the script sucks too! I’ll probably rent it a year or two after it makes it to DVD. Might go good with a 12-er of Pabst and a rare tenderloin.
March 12th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
As soon as I saw and heard the vamps I was like this blows. Still one can’t want to see the Frog Bros and the other Corey in it to see how horribly not campy this can be.
March 12th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
@ Ed
A 12-er of Pabst goes good with anything, but not this.
The only thing Lost Boys: The Tribe will go good with is Rodionoff tied to a chair.
March 12th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
“This looks like ANY episode of Charmed”
/Fixed
March 12th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
As for judging movies by trailers I think these two threads settle it
http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/01/23/get-smart-movie-trailer/
http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/02/27/get-smart-movie-trailer-2/
if that doesn’t convince you of how deceptive trailers can be.
peep these
http://www.slashfilm.com/2007/10/23/new-rambo-movie-trailer/
http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/02/02/hunters-movie-review-rambo/
Although both examples don’t show a reversal on either hunter or peters part I think they convey the point that trailers mean nothing. It is judging a book by its cover, or more accurately judging a book by 5 or 6 random paragraphs taken out of context.
I know I thought Rambo looked like shit until I saw the red band trailer. I’m glad I didn’t give up on the movie after the first trailer. I would have missed out.
March 12th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
this looks like fun movie to watch. seriously, i dont know the original movie but why not rent it, buy some popcorn and beer, invite some chicks and have fun?
oh, and of course i hate hunter seriously and all that and i wait till sexman reviews it.
March 12th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
I love how you can totally rip apart a film based on only the trailer.
Sure it’ll suck but why are you so surprised, I mean what shred of news so far has been any indication otherwise?
99.99% of films remade or sequel’d after so long suck. It’d be like a sequel to Big trouble in Little China, I’d love to see it but can guarantee you it’d suck. lol
March 12th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
I knew this movie would blow once that first image was released and the girl’s dress/bikini was NOT SEXY!
March 12th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
I didnt think it looked that bad maybe im missing something
March 12th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
this movie looks god awful…i thought it had a chance…is LC in that movie from the Hills? great career move u whore
March 12th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
My favorite part was the skateboarding
March 12th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Where’s the OTHER Corey??
March 12th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
thats why I still watch Steven Seagal movies… its crap but its good crap =)
March 12th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
WOW what a shit fest…They even managed to ruin the song with some wack rock remake.
I liked Lost Boys. Cool little flick. BUT….
Sometimes trailer are the best indication something is going to be wack. Sorry everyone. Corey is better off doing intervies on Howard Stern now.
March 12th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
the other corey was missing because they just did re shoots to add his character and probably had cut the trailer allready
for what it is a direct to dvd sequel I want to see it
March 12th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
l-fucking-ol
Cloverfield fans out to eat that shit up - I predict 5mil opening night.
March 12th, 2008 at 4:49 pm
let me get this straight:
people are surprised and disappointed that a shitty movie is getting a shitty-looking sequel?
March 12th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
I’m actually really surprised by all of the negativity.
I mean, it looks very much like it is cut from the same cloth as the original.
March 12th, 2008 at 6:14 pm
Seriously, Hunter, give this Rodinoff kid a break. Telling him to pull a Spitzer, and wanting to tie him up to a chair? Is that some weird kind of sexual fantasy you have? He just wrote the thing. Everybody knows that once a director is hired, the writer has almost nothing to do with it. And I’m speaking from experience. If you want to be pissed off at someone, vent on PJ Pesce.
http://genrehacks.blogspot.com/2008/02/why-you-should-write-stigmata-3.html
March 12th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Yikes! Come on folks, the first was a funny, silly, B-movie, with a few actors who HAPPENED to turn out to be good actors. It was fun, not serious, not a saga, not a legend, and seriously there’s nothing to ‘ruin.’ John Carpenter’s VAMPIRES spawned 2 really bad sequels, and neither even had James Woods, but Jon Bon Jovi… I watched those and laughed too… there was bound to be a BAD sequel to Lost Boys, but I’m seriously hyped because the ‘two Coreys’ are actually in it. It will be one of those classic ‘bad’ films that people WILL watch again and again. Sorry FILMGEEKS, there are audiences for movies like CRITTERS and BUCKAROO BANZAI…and yes, even LOST BOYS. No matter how crappy this one is, it will beat any sequel by GEORGE LUCAS to his Star Wars crapfests…have you seen his latest Prequel Trailer…its %100 CGI, I can’t wait to hear from his disenfranchised cultists about that one… Lost Boys will be fun, I just wish Bruce Cambell was in it.
March 13th, 2008 at 2:55 am
I think the problem (for want of a better word) is that the trailer and movie are inextricably linked to the Coreys.
The trailer is very Buffy-esque both in effects and in campy dialogue. In Buffy’s case, the effects and camp were accentuated by a number of context factors to make an excellent series - a context that many people now associate in general with Joss Whedon. The end result would be if we saw a similar trailer but we knew Joss Whedon had made it then we would fill in the unseen “context” with what we know about Joss Whedon (and fanboys and girls would be going crazy).
In this case we’re using what we know of the Coreys’ trainwreck as the “context” and so the tendency is to judge the trailer to similarly be a trainwreck.
I agree that it does not look very high quality, but it looks 5-6 out of 10 range so a “decent use of a movie ticket if nothing else is on”.
March 13th, 2008 at 2:56 am
I really want to see this! Listen the new version of Sisters of Mercy’s Cry little sister is a high! Frog Bros ar back, guys!
March 13th, 2008 at 8:28 am
OK. I am the first one to admit this doesn’t look as good as I was expecting, I grew up with the LB and, when I was young I even asked my dad to take me to the fictitious town of Santa Carla, murder capital of the world.
Think about this, look at the original LB trailer…it’s as bad as the shit we just witnessed…we need to stop believing all this crap about the bad trailer…I’ll give the movie a shot, I will probably be disappointed but what the hell…for once I’ll stop being pretentious little snot and will take it for what it is…some lines in the movie are so bad they are even good…” I’m Edward Frog, surfboard shaper and Vampire Hunter” That is classic!!! And the use of the Cry Little Sister song…guys, transport yourself back to the 80’s…would you have gone to the movies to see The Tribe with the current trailer? I sure as hell would have.
I know, it will probably suck ass, but I haven’t lost hope…it cannot be as bad as Episode I, can it?
March 13th, 2008 at 10:00 am
hi plants.
March 13th, 2008 at 10:52 am
Its not like this is going to be released in theaters…its a DVD release, and I’ll be the first in line to grab it at the store. What fun!
March 13th, 2008 at 11:46 am
you know what, im going to see this just because i am a huge fan of the original classic. who knows, it might be good. you all that bash these movies dont even give them a chance before seeing them. ill bet anyone here that this will turn out to be a decent movie. maybe not as good as the first one, but it will be a good movie in its own right!
March 13th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
YOU’RE ALL ASSHOLES
March 14th, 2008 at 11:31 am
“Jackie/B Says:
The vamp look is to close to the buffy, angel etc. style.”
That’s the other way around. Buffy’s vamps were styled after the Lost Boys, Whedon never made a secret of that.
@ Cenzo
There are PLENTY of writers that are original, but they tend to be unemployed. The studios don’t want originality, they want stuff that has already proven to make them lots of $$$.
March 16th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
Jeez, someone woke up on the wrong side of their Dungeons and Dragons bedspread. I don’t think there’s any danger of them running into you, Hunter: unless they attend one of your Magic: The Gathering parties. You see, they MAKE movies… you just whine about them.
March 24th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
The first Lost Boys is one of my favorite movies. When I saw this trailer for the new Lost Boys I thought it looks awesome. May even be better than the first. I can’t wait to watch it.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
Corey Feldman didnt age a day!!!! HE IS A VAMPIRE!
April 21st, 2008 at 2:22 am
so as was it oscar or felix to assume…… if you did’t like the first LB why did you even take a peek at the trailer????
i’m so happy for yet another B vampire movie to my collection. one can never have to many. i’m hoping to see old grandpa in this movie drinkin that special soda pop… wishful thinking then i guess we all would have known he was a vampire was he or was he not that should the debate peace and bring the troops home
July 5th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
umm the 2ndlookslike it bites bad… and not in a good way either… it doesnt have the heat that the first one had… just like cruel intentions, there isnt a point in doing a 2nd movie when the first one was so good…. u would think with 21 yrs gone by they would have better story line and better effects…
