When Andrew Cripps, President of Paramount Pictures International, announced at Showest that Iron Man would be released Day-and-Date internationally on April 30, rumors started to circulate that the domestic release would be moved up two days. Well apparently that is just wishful thinking. Paramount has issued the following statement:
The domestic release date of Iron Man has NOT changed and remains May 2, 2008. Paramount Pictures International & Marvel will release the film in numerous international markets on April 30, 2008.
I really wish studios would stop releasing films first in other countries, because it makes it almost impossible for fans to avoid the spoilers. Day and date is the way to go.

“I really wish studios would stop releasing films first in other countries, because it makes it almost impossible for fans to avoid the spoilers. Day and date is the way to go.”
Are you kidding me? We get this all the time in the UK. We always have to avoid spoilers. Surely it is not a big deal for us to get Iron Man a few days before you? Or are you suggesting that films are released on the same day globally for every release?
March 12th, 2008 at 2:40 am
Stupid American is Stupid.
March 12th, 2008 at 2:50 am
Roll up Roll up! Come see the fantastic narrow-minded egomaniac! Marvel at his self-centred worldview!
I actually read that last paragraph as “I really wish studios would stop releasing films in other countries” - which I guess is basically what he was suggesting.
I actually love it when people post enormous spoilers. e.g. A HUGE PICTURE OF THE MONSTER FROM CLOVERFIELD, WHOSE UNKNOWN APPEARANCE WAS WHAT THE MYSTERY OF THE FILM REVOLVED AROUND. Iron man isn’t even likely to have anything spoiler worthy. STFU+GBTW.

“I really wish studios would stop releasing films first in other countries, because it makes it almost impossible for fans to avoid the spoilers. Day and date is the way to go.”
Yes, because fans only reside in the USA.
Come live in Europe for a few years, see how fun it is to have films released a few *weeks* before you even get it, and the ensuing mission to avoid spoilers. It’s great fun.
Seriously, you’re complaining about a few days? Widen your perspective dude.
March 12th, 2008 at 3:14 am
I moved to Canada 12 years ago. Even then it was a nightmare trying to avoid spoilers for shows like The X-Files. It must be horrible now. I know from my Brit friends what a nightmare it is to avoid spoilers. Just ask any UK based fan of “Lost” what it’s like.
As someone said, like there’ll be much to spoil in Iron Man. Get over it. You don’t like it? Keep your head down for two damn days and don’t visit anywhere that’ll likely spoil it. It’s not that difficult.
March 12th, 2008 at 3:42 am
i’m with mike: the uk gets it bad because most stuff we get hyped for (and we do get hyped, mainly because of Empire magazine and sites like this) are released in the US ages befrore they reach us (that’s ages in nerd-time, not literally ages)
i had to avoid the internet for a couple weeks when cloverfield came out…
March 12th, 2008 at 5:02 am
I have to acknowledge with all the posters, that comment was really ‘nationcentric’ and selfish.
Just to inform you how it goes in the rest of the world. In Czech Republic we just had premiere of 3:10 to Yuma, we are awaiting premiere of There will be Blood next week and Juno releasedate wasn’t announced at all yet. It’s not always like that, e.g. Doomsday will be delayed only one month, but sometimes we got to wait even half a year.
I don’t oppose it, your filmmakers made the movies, there isn’t any reason why I should be jealous or something. Those delayed non-US premieres are all about different releasing strategies among the countries, but please, don’t cry, when you few times a year suffer from the fact, that your premiere day is Friday and some countries have the worldwide premiere day sooner in the week.
Anyways, I will be attending Iron Man premiere on Thursday 1st, can’t wait! :)

“I really wish studios would stop releasing films first in other countries, because it makes it almost impossible for fans to avoid the spoilers. Day and date is the way to go.”
…yeah. And other countries studios should stop releasing movies in their own language. they should english, and with american accent, right?
Sorry man, but the world does nor revolve around the us.

“I really wish studios would stop releasing films first in other countries, because it makes it almost impossible for fans to avoid the spoilers. Day and date is the way to go.”
This is the most stupid comment I have read in a long time. Are American people more stupid than people from other countries and therefore can not avoid spoilers? Strange… I always avoid reading too much about films before I see them, I want to be surprised and entertained.

peter has been pwned
March 12th, 2008 at 6:24 am
this is where Peter tells us he’s actually from Latvia.
March 12th, 2008 at 6:59 am
Don’t most films end up grossing more internationally than domestic anyway? I in no way know if thats a true statement, but it seems I always hear of shitty movies doing double their domestic gross internationally.
So it would kind of make sense that they give a little more weight to the international theater.
But then again, I hated TWBB, so what do I know.
March 12th, 2008 at 7:03 am
YEEEH… I’ll see IronMan on April 30th. This is a good anouncement

“I really wish studios would stop releasing films first in other countries, because it makes it almost impossible for fans to avoid the spoilers.”
Welcome to our (UK’s) world. Fuck the Cloverfield monster.
March 12th, 2008 at 7:11 am
Way to flip out over an innocent comment…
I’m sure he meant that studios should release movies on the same date in all countries, so that citizens of ALL countries don’t have to wait or worry about avoiding spoilers. I very much doubt he was saying “America is the most important, only we should not be inconvenienced.”
March 12th, 2008 at 7:13 am
“I really wish studios would stop releasing films first in other countries, because it makes it almost impossible for fans to avoid the spoilers. Day and date is the way to go.”
I’m from America and I realize how stupid that sounds at first but I’m thinking Peter is talking American made movies by American studios. Unless it’s something made by Uwe Boll (seeing as Germany is the only place he can get funding) you’re not going to see many (if any) European films making their debut in America. If something is made in America, by Americans, for Americans why should he not be upset with it being released in Europe first?
A good example is television… I watch a few Japanese TV shows. I don’t complain that they’re released in Japan first. Sure I see spoilers but it’s a Japanese produced show so I have no right to complain because like everyone else said, the world doesn’t evolve around America. SO. Go produce some big budget blockbusters at European based studios or in Bollywood and then when they’re released in America first you Europeans can complain all YOU want.

Hmmm I wonder how that happens lol
United states population in 2007 is reported at 301,139,947 while in 2005 the population of Europe was estimated to be 728 million. Then you can add in the Billion+ in China and millions in Japan…

/Film: Blogged in American by Americans for Americans.
March 12th, 2008 at 7:26 am
Yeah but honestly, how many of them can afford to see a movie.
Twice even.
In America you have people who spend their money to see films 3 and 4 times at 9$ a pop… and add consessions.
Think of the starving children man! ;)
March 12th, 2008 at 7:27 am
“I really wish studios would stop releasing films first in other countries, because it makes it almost impossible for fans to avoid the spoilers.”
Sorry to say buddy but you deserve all the hate you’re getting for your very ignorant statement. Perhaps it should’ve been more wisely phrased. Fact is Day and Date releases are just not feasible for all releases so don’t dream about it. Don’t worry you’ll see a bootleg of IronMan floating online on the 30th.
March 12th, 2008 at 7:28 am
Cory: “Way to flip out over an innocent comment…”
You spelt ignorant wrong.
March 12th, 2008 at 7:43 am
@pat
Movies aren’t made for just Americans anymore. The current blockbuster wouldn’t exist without the benefits of the worldwide gross. Try and remember that.
March 12th, 2008 at 7:53 am
Wow. Talk about ridiculous nationalism. Who cares? Who cares if we (Americans) have to wait and Europeans get it early? I don’t. I’ll watch it and if I’m too stupid to avoid spoilers then it’s my own damn fault.
And who the hell cares about which country has more people?
P.S. - Yes, all movies should be in American English with American actors. That’s a joke.
Stop arguing over two days and quit pretending your/our/whoever’s country is better/worse. It’s moronic.
March 12th, 2008 at 7:59 am
Problem is, that we are not complaining over our countries. We accept the facts.
We only complain about Peter’s ridicilous complaining and whining.
March 12th, 2008 at 9:03 am
Pretty sure early release in foreign markets does NOT equal spoilers, at least if you have a life and aren’t reading online articles that feature spoilers.
March 12th, 2008 at 9:31 am
“If something is made in America, by Americans, for Americans why should he not be upset with it being released in Europe first?”
At first i was going to agree with everyone that America is not the only place on the surface of this earth that got fans but dude the;
“If something is made in America, by Americans, for Americans why should he not be upset with it being released in Europe first?”-comment was even more ignorant.
“FOR americans”
Are you for real? So all the movies comming from America is just for you guys? Fuck the rest of the world, right?
March 12th, 2008 at 9:46 am
Fuck this news. Watch it when you watch it. Meanwhile a Global Government is in the making and people are being implanted with microchips…Ironman will save us!
March 12th, 2008 at 9:47 am
Now now my fellow Brits, let’s not fight. So the Americans get some movies first, we got Run, Fatboy, Run first.
Actually, that was shit. ‘Shit end of the stick’ shit. Again.
AAAAGH! Me so angee! Me wanna’mecian moviez now!
March 12th, 2008 at 10:15 am
Is this really an issue? I managed to wait until The Sixth Sense was on DVD before I found out the ending. If you are not actively looking for a spoiler… you won’t find it. And for crying out loud, even if by chance some moron in the elevator screams… “IRONMAN is really a lesbian trapped in a man’s body!”… and spoils the ending for you, then by all means… get a life. Or take your own life… ARRRG! Someone spoiled it for me! I can’t go on!
Oh… I love UK peeps. You peeps rock. Eve Online 4tw.
March 12th, 2008 at 10:15 am
Peter should start sending out complimentary tampons with every post.
March 12th, 2008 at 10:24 am
Why do posts that point out Hunter’s mistakes or question his opinions get deleted almost immediately, while posts that do the same to Peter stay up? interesting. Any ideas, Hunter?
March 12th, 2008 at 10:34 am
I agree with C. I think this whole argument is kind of blown out of proportion and has turned personal on Peter. It was poor word choice, but I’m sure he didn’t mean to be ego-centric about his own country.
So why is it that Peter’s attacks stay up, but Hunter’s get deleted almost instantaneously?
I think “Stupid American is stupid” is pretty much on par with “hate speech.”
March 12th, 2008 at 10:53 am
Wow reading thorugh all this i can’t help but sigh.
So Peter words something wrong. Oh no.
The point he wanted to make is that he would like for all movie to be released at the same time world wide. Which means no one would have to deal with spoilers from a movie that isn’t out in their region yet.
Everyone’s getting mad that he’s complaining about having to deal with spoilers. Then your all complaining about the exact same thing.
Get over it. So he worded it wrong, look past that and see what he meant from it. Your all letting your anger at a wrongly worded comment blind you from the meaning.
March 12th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
two words … reading comprehension
March 12th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
Day and Date I dont care
New Zealand is first to see the sun, so I’ll be there at midnight friday while you little americans will still be sitting thru thursday morning
March 12th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
“I really wish studios would stop releasing films first in other countries, because it makes it almost impossible for fans to avoid the spoilers. Day and date is the way to go”
Are you kidding me?? we have this all the time outside the USA
Go cry me a fucking river…
March 12th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
That was really badly phrased - most films have a good few weeks between coming out in America and coming out in other places, 2 days hardly seems worth mentioning - hell even advanced previews can be more than that before!
March 12th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
Did you get spoilers when Transformers was released a day or so earlier internationally?
March 12th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
honestly i don’t think its that big a deal unless spoilers affect whether you actually go see the movie. like with cloverfield once i saw pics of the monster i said the heck with seeing the movie its no longer as interesting as i originally thought.
I can’t wait for IronMan! movie looks awesome!!!! I’ll be sacrificing law school finals study time to see this movie but from the looks it’ll be well worth it!
