Monsters vs. Aliens: New Photo and Cast Revealed

Monsters vs. Aliens

DreamWorks Animation has revealed the voice cast and released a new photo for their 2009 computer animated 3D film Monsters vs. Aliens.

Based on the horror comic Rex Havoc, the film attempts to reinvent the classic 1950’s monster B-movie starring Reese Witherspoon as Susan Murphy, a California girl who, on her wedding day, has the bad luck to be hit by a meteor, which causes her to grow to be 49 feet, 11½ inches tall. Captured by the military, she’s renamed Ginormica. The rest of the cast includes:

  • Rainn Wilson - the evil alien Gallaxhar
  • Hugh Laurie - Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D.
  • Seth Rogen - the jellylike B.O.B.
  • Will Arnett - the half-ape, half-fish Missing Link
  • Kiefer Sutherland - General W.R. Monger
  • Stephen Colbert - The President

Monsters vs. Aliens

Sounds like an interesting concept, almost like a mainstream version of Grindhouse, but computer animated and in 3D. The voice cast also sounds very appealing. This will be Seth Rogen’s fourth turn as a computer animated character over the a period of just one year (Spiderwick, Horton, Kung Fu Panda).

Monsters vs. Aliens hits theaters on March 27th 2009.

Discuss: Is anyone interested in a computer animated 3D retro monster b-movie?

    haha I love the designs.

That giant monster in the background looks hilarious. If it's done well it could be great. I like the casting so far, Colbert as the president? Yes :)
  • Stephen Colbert IS THE PRESIDENT!
  • Captain Awesome
I just noticed someone jumping off the back of the sailboat, ha.

what?!! you mean to tell me that Dreamworks Animation is doing something without "Shrek" in the title? I don't believe it.

Great choice and this idea looks like it could be a lot of fun, although it's disconcerting to see that they are still emphasizing the celebrity casting for their animated films. I'll never agree with that.

btw - The Grindhouse reference whiffs badly. 50's Monster movies vs. 70's Exploitation. Not nearly the same.

Why does Ginormica look like that white haired chick from the incredibles? Extremely similar character designs. Shame on dreamworks.
  • Kapit
Of all the celebrity casts picked to voice animated movies recently, this looks to be the best. Excellent choice of actors.
  • Robert
I concur with the Captain. That big goofy looking thing cracks me up.
  • Steelo
I dig the design and color. The cast is pretty nice also. Let's hope the story resonates with that appeal
  • Hunter Stephenson
Not sure why, but these characters give me the creeps.

I usually wince at the lame stories and bright colors of non-Pixar animation these days... but yeah, that sounds pretty cool. But why do cg characters on movie posters always have slanted sneering grins?
  • Hobbes
Wicked cast so I'll end up seeing this regardless of the reviews. I don't think they could have found a more fitting and hilarious cast.
  • Luis
    its Cloverfield Part 2 hahaha
  • JP
looks and sounds fantastic, bring it on
  • Ghost
Is anyone else tired of seeing Seth Rogen everywhere?!
  • Luis
ah im getting there funny guy tho

    COLBERT FOR PRESIDENT!

    ...Oh, wait...
  • Peter Pan
Why do they ALWAYS use famous filthy rich celebrity voices in CG animation?! A lot of the starving character voice actors in Hollywood are in the unemployment line. Nothing can bring more life to a character than a TRUE character voice actor. These UNKNOWNS are brilliant and way more talented. The "Simpsons" would not be what it is today if they would have used famous filthy rich celbrity voices, instead of COMPLETE UNKNOWNS.

How do you have sex with a 50 foot woman?
  • Bannanie
Am I the only one that agrees with the missing link Incectasorouse should not be bothered! COLBERT, Yeah!!
  • Bannanie
How does a 50 foot women find clothes in her size?!!
  • XXX
For the clothes comment, I think she has to make them herself. How did her dress grow with her when she grew?
