“Wasn’t me.”

Peter emailed me the following question regarding the announcement that Justin Long will now star in Sam Raimi’s Drag Me to Hell: How did a movie go from so much potential with a return to old form, an Oscar nominated actress [Ellen Page] attached, to a Justin Long movie? I have no idea, but I too would rather see Mr. PC star in Raimi’s first horror thriller in years than the baby-faced star of Jeepers Creepers, Drew Barrymore’s prolonged youth and Apple propaganda.

Long (Live Free of Die Hard) will star alongside Ellen Page’s lesser known replacement, actress Alison Lohman, who joined the film just days ago after Page bailed due to scheduling conflicts. Written by Raimi and his brother Ivan, not much is known about Drag Me to Hell except that it will follow the unfortunate recipient of a supernatural curse, it has an awesome title, and it harks back to Raimi’s Evil Dead salad days but with less gore and less Bruce Campbell.

Next up for Long is He’s Just Not That Into You. Make ‘em swoon Long, make ‘em swoon.

Discuss: What has more scary potential, Drag Me to Hell or Justin Long in a movie?

Why all the Justin Long hatred? Well I guess he’s never really made a good movie. But he is funny and cute so whatevs.

It is a well known fact that people, having done bad work in the past, can never ever ever redeem themselves. I mean look at Mark Whalberg. He was in Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch and has never ever ever done a good film or anything since then. Except Boogie Nights. And The Departed. And most…films…he has been in…since.

But that is just an exception to the rule. Look at Penelope Cruz. She did that awful “Bandidas” movie. Oh…wait…crap. She was in Volver, wasn’t she? Oh man she kicked ass in that movie…damn.

And then there is that Michel Gondry guy. Jesus, what a hack, doing music videos for God sakes. There is no way that guy has any talent…wait? What? He did them for Bjork? And Radiohead? Oh shit yeah I forgot about that. Oh man and then he made Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind right? Oh man and he did Block Party and Be Kind Rewind.

Man, I guess the artistic past of someone does not really determine their artistic future. Learn something every day I guess.

    He was great in Idiocracy.

I have faith in Sam Raimi’s power to have fun with a non-GDP-sized budget and whatever cast he chooses. I say give the Macman a chance.

Can’t blame the guy though. He’s just doing his job. Blame the casting director and sam Raimi.

And was that a subtle diss to my favorite B-Horror Movie actor Bruce campbell? I hopes not

    ;)

We’ll see if that “phat” Spider-Man loot has severed the little cool Raimi had.

    @ The Jezzus

Are you kidding? Would I test Ye Ole Gods on International Day of Awesomeness by dissing Bruce Friggin’ Campbell? Have a lil’ faith dude! Thanks! ;)

Justin Long is the Mac. :)

Or were you saying you’d rather see John Hodgman in those movies? LOL

    @ Isaac

We were saying “HODGMAN > LONG.” Thanks.

I’d much rather see Justin Long in the movie that say a Shi Lebouf (I know, I didn’t spell his name right). Lebouf gives me the same “tool” vibe that Leo Dicaprio did around Titanic. Now maybe he’ll come back and do great things later on (as Leo did), but for now Lebouf needs to grow up.

After Spiderman 3 I truely hoped Rami would never make another movie again.

    Damn.

    Where did AJ’s comment go?

  14. Gravatar

    Well, that’s fitting.

Long has a lot of potential, which he aptly displays in the extras sections of a number of films on DVD (some he has been in and some he has not).

Check out the Waiting DVD extra…very fine improv there.

    Give the fucker a chance.

This is very reminiscent of every time a pair of entertainers hook up where one of them is very famous…

The one who is not gets more exposure and with it a backlash of negativity.

I have to say…if I can get over myself, you should too, since I’ve been in love with his girlfriend for far too long.

    Sorry…couldn’t resist the bad pun.

  17. Gravatar

That should read ‘in love with
his girlfriend for far too long’.
