I just love the Golden Compass, and couldn't wait to see it. I do believe that they should have advertised the movie better. It was my favorite book when I was younger and I really hope that they would do the other two books.

If any of you have read the book and then watched the movie you would understand why this movie failed miserably. The sequence of events in the movie are completely backwards and how the movie ended compare to the book was ridiculous. The ending of the book is vital to how the 2nd and 3rd books play out and they couldn't even include that important piece of information into the movie!!! Though I understand that not all movies will match the books perfectly and are merely a add-on to them, this movie could have been done soooo much better!

I do recommend reading the books! It is a great story to read!

I can't believe that the next sequel is not going to be on this Christmas.
Extremely disappointed. First film was brilliant.

I surely hope there will be a Subtle Knife movie and a Amber Spyglass one too. I just finished the third book and I must say it is possibly the best book I have ever read in some aspects. I would go to both of these coming movies in theatres, and buy their DVD's. I've yet to buy the Golden Compass DVD, but I think I will, if only to support them. You cannot understand how upset I would be if they cut the series.

My 10yr old daughter liked the movie alot. She hopes that they make the Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass. Her dad liked very much also. He hated the end when it left him hanging. He also hopes that there will be more. It wasn't any worse than Harry Potter.

I would love to see the sequels. I liked the first movie; I own it on BD-DVD. I was just looking up the sequels and found this bad news that they aren't nearly done already.
Hopefully if they make sequels they keep the original cast. There is nothing I dislike more than people changing cast members in-between films. Ironman is a prime example. Keep Terrance Howard imo...renegotiate!

i LOVED the subtle knife and especially the amber spyglass. i would love to see the sequels made into films, and i'd like seeing Dakota Blue Richards as Lyra again before she gets too old for the role.

I can't believe they could actually consider to NOT make the movie!! :( I love TGC and we did a survery at skwl and 9/10 of my class has TGC as their favourite movie! How could they say this was not a success?
I love the books and would just love to see the Subtle Knife and the Amber Spy Glass been made into a movie!!! I absolutely love the series having read it only 23 times exactly in the past year!!! lol
I hope they do make it into a movie, I would even prefer to see this made into a movie than Eldest as they did a much better job with TGC then the people did with Eragon.

Leah,
I agree that Lewis and Pullman are incomparable. However, to call Lewis a leech simply seems ignorant to me. He was around long before Pullman could even read. They are different, but to say that one is less astute than the other makes you appear quite unaware of what these two men have added to the world of literature.

First of all, how dare anyone make a comparison of Pullman's work to C.S. Lewis or any other leech who would attempt to climb the stairs and reach Pullman's level. Phillip Pullman is a sheer genius and should be recognized as such.
I first read His Dark Materials in ninth grade, and I was blown away that someone could have the capabilities to write something like that, and when I finished I thought how in the world this hadn't been made into a movie already.
I was thrilled when I found out The Golden Compass was being made into a movie and seeing it was one of the highlights of 2007 for me, although I have to admit it was butchered, just like the Harry Potter movies.
Newsflash: When you change the storyline of a book to make it into a movie, YOU RUIN THE WHOLE DAMN THING!!! If your not the author of said book being made into said movie, then you DO NOT have the imagination to change their storyline without ruining it.
