Nolte totally cracked out! Creedence Clearwater Revival blaring! Robert Downey Jr. as a fake black man! Jack Black as an albino! A real black dude yelling, “I’m from Brooklyn motherfucker!” The red-band teaser trailer (who knew, right?) for Ben Stiller’s Tropic Thunder has arrived and it packs a soap-in-mouth wallop. Unfortunately, the characters are layered over footage from the film, so for the trailer’s entire duration you’re looking for an “X CLOSE” so you can get rid of the Flash and enjoy it. It’s not there, sadly.
But what is there, more and more, is the potential for Tropic Thunder to shred up throats with laughter like so many foreign palm trees this August. And I am already digging the P.C. controversy that is erupting over Downey’s performance. Say what you want about Apatow but his comedy doesn’t exactly piss people off, and it’s about time we got one that did.

Discuss: Are you liking what you’ve seen of the film thus far or what? And how badass is Nick Nolte, I mean, really?

Wow. I would never have released such a bad teaser. I mean, at least get some footage without fake images covering them.

Jack Black doesn’t look albino really. Maybe cause he’s so dirty in the trailer. But yeah the trailer was pretty sh!tty. Nolte looked spooky in Spiderwick though.

anybody else think the voice talking in the beginning (giving coordinates or something) sounds like tom cruise? isnt there a rumor he’s got a cameo in this? JB don’t really seem albino to me, but anyway i’m still not really jazzed about this film.

Yep, Cruise donned a fat suit to play the studio boss.

Everything I heard about this movie up to now seemed pretty lame. But after that teaser, I’m in.

my father was in vietnam and i’m sure he is rolling in his grave over a COMIC portrayal about this tragic chapter in american history….

With the exception of Hot Shots, I don’t think there’s ever been a straight up war-comedy. This movie looks brilliant and histerical. Robert Downey Jr and Nick Nolte together, plus it’s probably going to be Stiller’s best role since Something About Mary. I cannot wait.
And for those with relatives in the war, I have family that was in Vietnam and friends over in Iraq. We know it’s going to be a blown up account (no pun intended) of a war setting, no an accurate documentary, so suck it up.

OH NOES!!! SUMONE IS MAKING FUNNIEZ OF SUMTHINGZ!!
Seriously though, get over it. My dad was in Nam too, but you know what he has a sense of humour and while this might not be the best for him to watch cause of PTSD, he still wouldn’t be offended by it. All funny movies make fun of something. Did your mother roll over in hergrave when knocked up came out because it was making light of pregnancy out of wedlock (maybe so, and while I disagree with the subject matter “in real life”, these are freaking movies)?
