The latest trailer for Wanted, starring a raccoon-eyed Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman (what happened to that bucket list), is truly terrible, even for a movie that missed The Matrix bus by nearly a decade! Like, the film’s first trailer wasn’t very promising, but this new one is bordering on the slo-mo inanity of Karate Dog (which starred Jolie’s dad, Jon Voight, Matrix-ing with a canine no less!).
What a bad move for Russian director Timur Bekmambetov, who hopes to crossover in America with Wanted later this summer after receiving merited attention with his first two Night Watch films (the last film in the series, Twilight Watch, is due in 2009). The cheesy voice-over narration is clearly pandering to teens-with-assassin-dreams, but the stunts? I have no idea what age/intelligence group would think these stunts look even slightly cool. Besides the aforementioned tracing bullets gimmick, the rest of this garbage plays like the clichest of sport car commercials. The film doesn’t even seem to do car porn or Jolie-porn right, and if Shoot ‘Em Up flopped, you have to wonder what’s in store here.
All I’m sayin’ is: Save your lifeguarding money and just watch Sexman hilariously redistribute his massive hatred of Jumper in June ‘08.
Discuss: What do you think of the new Wanted movie trailer?

That picture where Angelina has her arms behind her head is SO scary looking. She looks like a Barbie no joke. Her arms even have a weird plastic sheen.
March 6th, 2008 at 2:04 am
Dude, the shot of Angelina walking away nude..fing hot. I don’t give a shit if I sound like some pre-pubed 10 year old, I would rail that shit.
Now that I’m not 12 anymore, as for the trailer..meh. The comic was badass, this just looks like a hack job. Fuck those shots of them flying out of windows, Final Fantasy CGI videos are the only ones that can pull that shit off.
March 6th, 2008 at 2:08 am
It looks like a mindless actioner, and I’ll watch it like one.
March 6th, 2008 at 2:49 am
I’d heard the comic mentioned enough that the first trailer caught my eye. I had really no idea what the comic was about, and upon reading it, found it to be pretty fucking cool, despite some annoyingly gaudy artwork.
Going back to the trailer, and seeing exactly how much seemed recognizable from the comic, I think it’s safe to say this movie looks like a piece of shit. I mean, it looks like a cool, big budget piece of shit, but the kind that has absolutely nothing to do with the source material. It makes me think of Doom. Taking a property with a lot of potential and changing so much that it could easily have been made under a different name with no worries about lawsuits.
@ Dan: Dude, never try and apologize for remarking on how hot Angelina Jolie is. If anyone contradicts you, there’s only one appropriate rebuttal… And I can’t say it here, because it might qualify as ‘hate speech.’ You know what I mean.
Seriously, though, I don’t know what the hell this movie is doing. It looks sort of cool, but if it was called something else, I’d never guess it had a damn thing to do with Wanted.
For those who haven’t read the comic… Jolie’s character is black and Morgan Freeman’s is white. That’s just the beginning of the absurd liberties it looks like they’re taking with this ‘adaptation.’ It’s stuff like that that just makes me go “WHY?!” Why pay money for the rights to something when you’re gonna change so much that it barely passes for a ripoff of the initial idea?
I’ve seen two trailers and I’m already thinking I’ll wait for the DVD.
March 6th, 2008 at 4:50 am
I can’t wait for this movie, think it’s gonna be great!
March 6th, 2008 at 5:13 am
I can’t believe how this is exactly not like the comic at all.. It looks fucking terrible
March 6th, 2008 at 5:24 am
“The latest trailer for Wanted is truly terrible”
Wow, a little harsh, dont you think?
I don’t see the problem. Sure, it doesn’t look like the best movie around but please, it could be worse.
And for gods sake, no wait, for MY sake, please stop writing about this “sexman”-guy.
It’s just a kid that swears alot and is in no way funny, smart or as many would like to have it, a genius.
March 6th, 2008 at 5:58 am
I thought the trailers for Wanted looked super lame.
I watched both Night Watch films. The first one showed a very original cinematic vision but with amateurish storytelling skills. The second Night Watch film wasn’t quite as fresh in style as the first, and the storytelling was even worse. And the trailer for Wanted looks like the guy has abandoned his originality in style and capitulated to what he thinks American audiences want to see. Looks hackneyed to me.
March 6th, 2008 at 6:22 am
Helena, are you aware that Timur didn’t write Daywatch, its based and is adapted very closely to the Book series. The story was not really his fault, and I felt that Daywatch was a very good movie but hey, different strokes for different folks.
March 6th, 2008 at 6:24 am
Why did they call this movie “Wanted” and say “it’s based on the graphic novel”. It looks like they’re all good guys now. Nothing to do with the comic.
Will I see it…
Probably unless it gets trashed on the Internet and Sexman :) says it sucks.

March 6th, 2008 at 6:31 am
They called it wanted because its almost maybe kind of used to be about characters who sort of act just a little bit like the characters in the graphic novel..
March 6th, 2008 at 6:33 am
completely mindless thriller but who can resist guns, cars, and Angelina Jolie
March 6th, 2008 at 6:48 am
Finally, someone agrees with me. This film looks so boring. Ofcourse, I could be wrong :)
March 6th, 2008 at 6:55 am
Totally agree with Markus.
March 6th, 2008 at 7:00 am
The film looks okay. Watchable, but not exactly cerebral. But that’s what I want from a movie every now and again; I just want to be entertained and this looks like it will provide that.
Compare that to Jumper where the teaser made the film look amazing, the trailer built up the expectation and the film itself barely delivered. It could have been so much more.
The harder thing to swallow here is that most of the hate for this film seems to stem from it’s dissimilarities to the graphic novel. But you seem to be judging this based on…a …trailer…
March 6th, 2008 at 7:31 am
When I first saw this trailer, I thought, “OK, just another mediocre action flick.” Then I read the comic. OMG, the comic is outstanding!!! I will probably not see this movie because of the comic. The comic is sooo amazing, I think the movie might make me lose faith in movie adaptations all together.
Have you guys read the comic? I mean, if they made a movie out of that, I think i would shit my pants.
“So, whats your movie about?”
“Well, you see. Its about an underground organization of super villains who get to do whatevet the hell they want, whenever the hell they want to do it. The movie will have lots of bad guys, violence, rape, and a guy made of shit.”
!!!Seriously, who could read that description and say, “No, I think I’m gonna pass.”
NO ONE, thats who.
March 6th, 2008 at 7:32 am
“starring a raccoon-eyed Angelina Jolie”
Classic line right there, bro. :-)

March 6th, 2008 at 7:49 am
This is the most over the top action i have ever seen till date.
WOW we can just a spin a fired bullet by just swinging ours arms.
This is the most ridiculous stunt i have ever seen

March 6th, 2008 at 7:53 am
Most trailers make the movie look better than it actually is, however this trailer clearly shows you in advance that it’s going to suck balls. I love their honesty.
March 6th, 2008 at 8:04 am
…it will have cool scenes about every 10 minutes, and then it be forgotten about before you leave the theater parking lot… with 20 less dollars to your name.
March 6th, 2008 at 8:23 am
I’ve actually done that shoot a bullet with a bullet move, my dad taught me when we were out hunting reindeer when i was a child
March 6th, 2008 at 8:32 am
I don’t expect this to be great, but I expect it to be very fucking entertaining. I probably wouldn’t pay $9 to see it, but at matinée prices I’m in.
March 6th, 2008 at 8:39 am
I would rather watch “Wanted” than another “Sexman” review.
March 6th, 2008 at 8:44 am
Like anything, take it as it comes.
I can’t front though the car pick up thing in the beginning was relatively fresh. I apologize for liking such cliches.
March 6th, 2008 at 8:49 am
Cant wait for mythbusters to analyze the car pickup. LOL
March 6th, 2008 at 9:45 am
“this trailer clearly shows you in advance that it’s going to suck balls”
All the trailer can show is that the trailer sucks balls. And I’m not entirely sure why you think that it does. Over the top? Yes. Shooting? Yes. Ridiculous stunts? Yes. That sounds like any number of films released in the last year. Where’s the suck?
And when you have to use the word ‘clearly’, the implication is that it isn’t all that clear. It’s the same as saying “obviously”. Meaning that if it isn’t obvious to the reader then it’s the reader’s fault not the writer.
March 6th, 2008 at 10:37 am
I think like many other movies that are born from a graphic novels, this one is going to fail horribly. The GN was so much more appealing and fun to read, this trailer is almost unbearable. If they want all the crazy shooting and what not they should have stay alot more tied to the orginal story line.
March 6th, 2008 at 10:43 am
I can see my opinion confused you to the point you had to type two paragraphs.
Sorry for the confusion. I have reworded my previous post for your viewing pleasure.
“Most trailers make the movie look better than it actually is, however this trailer — APPEARS TO SHOW — you in advance that it’s going to suck balls. I love their honesty.”
I hope this clears everything up and if you still take this out of context you can call my publicist at 1-800-SUCK-BALLS.
March 6th, 2008 at 10:59 am
Looks effing fabulous! Can’t wait.
March 6th, 2008 at 11:52 am
The best part of this movie will be in a year or so when the Mythbusters try to make bullets curve and pick up passengers without stopping or breaking legs.
March 6th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
If by terrible you guys mean terribly awesome then I agree.
March 6th, 2008 at 12:20 pm
If they just would have stayed remotely true to the comic it would be rad. I’m sure Mark Millar is dreading this bastardization of his brilliant writing.
March 6th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
You all are good kind hearted people, being kind to a movie that lacks the feel of the comic or looks like the comic, but most of all you still love Angelina Jolie even though she looks like a twig.
Did the Director even bother to read the comic it’s just like he scanned and said “I like the title so I’ll take it but I hate the look and feel so I’m going to change 100% got it?” man why didn’t they get someone who gets comics? Hollywood today.(Sigh)
March 6th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Oh it gets worse…. only 3 characters from the original comic are even in the movie!
March 6th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
ditto Marckus. Sexman must go.
As for the trailer, looks like mindless fun to me - lots of eye candy if NOTHING else. I think everyone is going to be pleasantly surprised.
March 6th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
NIght Watch was terrible. Timur Bekmambetov is the McG of Russia.
March 7th, 2008 at 12:20 am
Call me a sucker for action movies but I’d like to see it. Just because a movie isn’t going to win a bunch of awards doesn’t mean it wont be fun.
March 7th, 2008 at 2:54 am
Does anyone think that maybe they are saving all the bizarre stuff until closer to release? I doubt it, but maybe, just maybe Doll Master, Mr Rictus, Shit Face, Fuckwit, and all the other awesome parody characters will be in the movie.
Who am I kidding.. this looks like a train wreck. Always slow down and watch train wrecks though so. netflix save list here we go.
March 7th, 2008 at 5:56 am
“I hope this clears everything up and if you still take this out of context you can call my publicist at 1-800-SUCK-BALLS.”
I called that, but your mother answered. Luckily all ball sucking was pretty good.
By the way, well done for responding so well to someone disagreeing with you.
March 12th, 2008 at 11:47 am
max i i totally agree with you on this one. i cant stand it when a director takes an awesome title and turns it into shit. when i saw the first ad for this movie i wanted to cry. anyone who has at least taken a peek at the comic can easily see that the creators mark millar and jg jones already did the casting for the director Bekmambetov. instead of angelina, morgan freeman, james mcavoy we should be seeing halley barry, eminem, and any old WHITE man for the professor aka morgan freeman. yes i said eminem. pick up the comic and youll agree with me 100% i hope this movie tanks so we can all learn a lesson, dont f’up a good thing
May 20th, 2008 at 9:20 am
you people that are downing this trailer clearly have no imagination. if you want complete realism watch the news and stay away from the internet. it’s inspired by the graphic novel NOT a remake of it. that means they take elements from the book not mimic it. of course its over the top action. its suppose to be. about damn time they make a movie that isn’t geared towards the elderly or the women.
June 4th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
Personally, I’m not even going to watch this movie unless I find out that they brought back all the real characters, and changed them back into supervillains, and otherwise didn’t just screw up the story. They had dozens of rich, funny characters and a deep (if you look past the campy gore) story, but they completely forsake it all.
Before you say anything to argue, though, think about whether you have actually read the comic. From what I’ve seen, everyone who says they’ve read the comic has low expectations for this, and those supporting it haven’t said whether or not they read it, so I’m guessing they haven’t. Imagine how you would feel if someone said they were making a movie of your favorite comic/book/game, and then changed the entire story (Doom, Time Machine,) thus ruining any further chance it has of being put in theaters with a more faithful script. You’d be pissed off too, and don’t try to deny it.
June 6th, 2008 at 1:32 am
i could swear i poured my sperms when i saw jolie as a bad bitch like this movie alredy.
June 6th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
I agree with Markus about that Sexman guy. He is rediculous. This movie may not be that great when it comes out but it won’t be terrable I can tell you that right now. How can you even say this movie is terrable, it doesnt look that bad. anyway Angelina Jolie is in it so it wont be that bad. I mean come on unless your gay.
June 8th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
My god, would you get your heads out of your collective asses about Angelina Jolie already? Yes, she is incredibly gorgeous, but that doesn’t mean the movie won’t suck. If you’re just going to see her, why not watch a porno; or better yet, get a girlfriend. Christ.
June 8th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
For one thing I have a girlfriend so I don’t need to watch porn. And second I’m not going to go see it just because I think shes hot I’m going to see it because I think she is a really good actress who happens to be hot. CHRIST.
June 8th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
i like wieners in my butt.
June 8th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
that comment above was my dam friend messing around. sorry.
June 13th, 2008 at 2:08 am
I don’t know what everyone’s talkin’ bout, I read the comic, and i’ve seen all the trailers, and i think they’re both effin’ awesome. Grant you, totally different concepts, but it really doesn’t matter to me, because the filmmakers just took one work of art and made another out of it. The stunts look amazing to me, the bullet tracing, fan-freakin’-tastic….and who could say anything bad about a naked Angelina Jolie? even if she is walkin’ the other way.
