EW has a sneak peak at the cover art for the latest James Bond adventure, Devil May Care, written by English author Sebastian Faulks. The idea was to write a James Bond book which would read “as though Fleming had written it,” which explains the ridiculous cover credit: “Sebastian Faulks writing as Ian Fleming”. Um, I’ll wait for the eventual movie adaptation. The book will hit store shelves on May 28, the 100th birthday of the late Ian Fleming.

“Sebastian Faulks writing as Ian Flemingâ€
I really can’t believe how obnoxious that credit is.

It’s obnoxious, sure, but it’ll sell a ton of books.

The UK Version looks way better, and the ‘Writing As…’ credit is played down a little bit.

The next film will star Macaulay Culkin Acting As Sean Connery…
That’s ridiculous, but its true because people sit down and write “like Shakespeare” all the time.

I believe that they are marketing it this way because the book is supposed to pick up where Ian Flemming left off with his last Bond novel. I see nothing wrong with it at all, I am sure the Flemming estate would not have allowed it if they were against it.

Sebastian Faulks??? What’s a literary heavyweight writing 007 novels??

I agree the cover credit is ridiculous. But don’t expect a movie adaptation. Devil May Care included, there have been 35 official original Bond stories published since Ian Fleming’s death, none of which have been adapted.

By the way, one of the MOST ridiculous Bond novels written was one by Benson. Simply put, its finale had Bond FIGHTING MOSQUITOS. Yes, you heard it. Granted, those were genetically modified killer mosquitoes … but even then, the idea of Brosnan/Craig saving the world by slapping mosquitos is hilarious.

Anyone know who did the cover?
Chip Kidd?
Thomas Allen?
Regardless of content, it’s a nice cover.

Didn’t Kinglsey Amis write Conel Sun, which took over from where Ian Fleming left off?
