Star Wars Live Action Television Show

Live Action Television Show!
According to the Liverpool Daily Post Jim Marquand has been asked by George Lucas to direct episodes of the upcoming Star Wars live action television series. Jim’s father Richard Marquand directed Return of the Jedi.

Set between the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, the series will focus on the expanded universe and explore the life minor characters from the Star Wars galaxy. The project was proposed with a plan for 100 $1 million one hour-long episodes, although producer Rick McCallum explained in July 2007 that the series could run up to 400 episodes. Lucas is writing and producing the first season, which is currently set to debut in 2009.

i hope manakin skywalker and luke skywalker get to meet each other in the tv series. hopefully prince leeia too. i think its 32 years too late.

  2. Gravatar

    no.

  3. Gravatar

    no

  4. Gravatar

Excited? I’d rather sit through Sister Act 4, then tune in to another Star Wars exploit. Mr. Lucas needs to find some other form of income and stop riding the tailbone of a washed out franchise. But… I’m sure Star Wars nerds everywhere will unite and dress up as Ewoks and Storm Troopers to jolly themselves once more.

  5. Gravatar

I think there is a lot of potential in this tv series. Now we can finally see a story not involving Anakin! Besides, any sci-fi geek will tell you, the Star Wars expanded universe was always far more interesting than the stories in the Star Wars films.

  6. Gravatar

what channel is it gonna be on? I might watch if it was on SHO or HBO, maybe Sci-fi, but im thinkng this show is gonna flop.

  7. Gravatar

as a star wars fan I’ll watch them all… I just hope they have some good actors finally. Back when this show was first announced I also heard talk that it was going to be in 3D. Is there still any truth to that?

  8. Gravatar

    I’ll be watching!!!

  9. Gravatar

time to dust off my chebacca outfit

  10. Gravatar

I am cautiously optimistic. Episode III was a bit too much Senate and talking and whining, but finally had a cool and clever plot that did justice to its status as prequel to the most beloved trilogy of them all. At least, it was an improvement over Episode II. Taking a more episodic approach to the series could be really interesting if they have the writing and acting to back it up, or it could be a disaster. I’m hopeful.

  11. Gravatar

    I’m tuning in.

  12. Gravatar

Are you kidding me? This would be the best sci-fi on television, not that I enjoy that genre all that much anyway, but it seems like it will be good

  13. Gravatar

I’ll be watching, but I’m not particularly excited about it, even though I am a huge fan of the movies and of the extended universe to some degree.
Lucas just doesn’t know when to stop exploiting those crappy prequels.

  14. Gravatar

Total watering down of the Star Wars brand. The cartoon crap is bad enough, now a “$1Million” an episode (what the heck can you do with only $1Million) TV show? Load of crap.

  15. Gravatar

This is gonna suck shaved down Ewok Sack. However, most of the folks that beat ol’ George up about milking his franchise for all its worth are the same folks who will line up like lemmings to watch the Star Trek movie. Its gonna suck because you can’t do shit with a million an episode with this brand. Quality’s gonna have to be top notch or it will fail hard.

  16. Gravatar

Lucas routinely spends a million bucks to create a CGI vending machine for a background shot, guess he’ll be tonight down the special effects

  17. Gravatar

This is going to be the biggest thing that’s ever happened to television; period.

    You’ll see.

  18. Gravatar

Wah Wah Wah, all these commenters whining about “riding the tailbone of a washed out franchise” go piss off. If it dont make you happy, dont watch it. Simple.

I’m definitely going to, theres shity shows on TV.

  19. Gravatar

Oh c’mon… I’ll watch it but the fact that Lucas is writing the first season himself means that it will be B - A - D.

  20. Gravatar

I read an interview with him a while back about this. He said he was making all of these himself regardless if it was ever picked up by any network. So that may explain the budget he set. Also allot of people forget that arguably the best SW film was the first one which he had a crap budget for and that movie was awesome. When you are pinched thats when the real genius stuff happens that fans usually like … usually.

I am excited for this. The fans need something to spark some life into the franchise after the prequels.

  21. Gravatar

I am so excited yet afraid all at the same time.

I want it so desperately to be good, but know better.

Let’s have some faith and hopefully it will do the series some justice.

  22. Gravatar

It would be incredible! Anything Star Wars is better then 90% of all other shit in the world. Especially because Boba is supposed to have a major role.

  23. Gravatar

YES!!! THE FORCE WILL BE UNLEASHED!!!
I can’t wait for the TV show - the DARK TIMES await!!!
and Daniel Logan (Boba from Episode 2)
will play FETT!!!! This show is gonna RULE!!!!!!

  24. Gravatar

Yikes, 400 episodes? It would be an amazing feat to pull off.

I’m sure Lucas has learned over the years what Star Wars fans expect of him, and maybe he can do a better job with a whole galaxy of new characters in the extended universe.

    I’ll be watching, regardless.

  25. Gravatar

    Dear God no.

  26. Gravatar

    please no more STAR WARS!

  27. Gravatar

after 10 years of destroying the brand, no I am not excited for more Star Wars. Especially when a series takes place during no actual Star War.

The Force Unleashed video game will be my last journey to this universe, and thats only because its built as a solid video game.

I fooled myself for 6 years into liking the prequels… but the sad truth is they’re not worth re-watching or owning. Hell I don’t even really like the original trilogy much anymore except camp value. Like I said, Lucas has destroyed the brand. I can’t take it seriously.

Producing 100 episodes assumes anyone would want to watch what will surely be shit. The only hope this has is that Lucas will not be directing the actors and they might accidentally deliver a line well.

  28. Gravatar

I’m scared of what this could be. I will watch, as a huge SW fan. But, there is a high chance that this will suck big time. Not to mention, the dialogue that Lucas writes is not good to say the least. I am not too sure that the dialogue will hold up to something like Battlestar Galactica or Star Trek has on TV. He should let someone else write these stories, and just over see them.

And to GabeAsher - What the heck are you talking about? Manakin(assume you meant Anakin), Luke and Leia meet in the TV series? Do you even have a clue about the SW universe? And what part of “the series will focus on the expanded universe and explore the life (of) minor characters from the Star Wars galaxy” did you not understand? Go read the expanded universe books, then come back to make a comment.

I think george knows whats at stake. He knew what was at stake
when he made “Empire” and “Jedi”. The only reason I beleive
he is revisiting Star Wars is because he has more story to tell.

George wanted to make “Empire” and “Jedi” before the origanal
became famous. The reason he is doing it is because he enjoys
the universe and chacacters. I enjoy the characters and universe
as well. I am really looking forward to this Tv show, because i know
it’s going to be a lot better than most Tv shows.

  30. Gravatar

The show should feature Boba Fett in some way. I would like for the series to explore the world of the bounty hunters. Imagine a Dengar episode, or Ig-88. There is potential for some good episodes. They can have Jedi who escaped the purge and are on the run from the empire and the bounty hunters. This is a show that is probably best suited for either Fox network or Sci-Fi channel, since it will most likely be a cult show. But I think LucasFilm is doing their homework, and will not release something sub-par for television.

  31. Gravatar

I have t osay, George needs to just sit back and let omeone else do this. He wasn’t the one that created the rabid fan base. The extended universe is what created the ridiculos culture we now love. Timothy Zahn and Kevin J Anderson need to be more involved than Lucas. He started it, and there were fanboys, but they didn’t go crazy until the EU stuff started existing.

  32. Gravatar

It would be cool if they followed the lost formula and based every episode around a character, including flashbacks or whatever. Its a great way to develop characters for a long term show.

There is a lot of potential storytelling here. You have the formation of the empire, the rebel alliance, the jedi purge, all the bounty hunters etc.

  33. Gravatar

I’m worried it will be another dog like the Young Indiana Jones series. Talk about missed opportunities.

  34. Gravatar

This particular sentence, “Lucas is writing and producing the first season, which is currently set to debut in 2009,” was all the information I needed to know. Thanks, but no thanks Mr. Lucas.

  35. Gravatar

No, why won’t Lucas just let a good thing die.

  36. Gravatar

It will probably be a flop but I will tune in to check it out. If the stories and acting sucks then I won’t watch it.

  37. Gravatar

Lucas the bullfrog will crucify this.
    His writing is soooo bad!
    Dialogue sucks.
But i’m sure it will make it’s money back numerous times over and be deemed a success - if only on dvd sales- as completists will buy- and i’m sure Bullfrog will milk it by releasing several versions to rip fans off.
As for million per episode- you’ll be surprised what he can do- he owns the biggest fx company in the world!! so no cost there and most people would be involved cheap just to get a name check or career foot up.
sure it will look nice- but will the storylines suck? probably-
Will it be as bad as the last lave action Tv outing? How could it!!! The HOLIDAY SPECIAL!!!! AAAArrrrrrggggghhhhhh!!!!! lol
Let us all hope ‘he force is with us’ on that one!!!
