Justice League in 2009

Justice League in 2009

Warner Bros tried hard to push a movie based on the Justice League of America into production before the writers strike. But they couldn’t get all their ducks in a row, and the project was put on an indefinite hold. The names of most of the young cast had been leaked onto the interwebs, with not many fans happy with the choices. And now that the strike is over, Warner has announced that they are pushing forward with plans for a 2009 release.

The contract options of the cast members were not exercised, but the young cast was assured by the studio that they want to make the film with them in it. You can see a full list of the rumored cast below. George Miller is still attached to direct and is in pre-production on the film in Australia. First-time husband and wife screenwriters Michele and Kieran Mulroney are currently polishing up the script.

  • Adam Brody - The Flash
  • Common - Green Lantern
  • Armie Hammer Jr. - Batman
  • Megan Gale - Wonder Woman
  • D.J. Cotrona - Superman (rumored)
  • Hugh Keays-Byrne - Martian Manhunter (rumored)
  • Teresa Palmer - Talia Al Ghul (rumored)

I don’t know about you guys, but I was hoping that this project would fall off the map into development hell, later to be reborn with a new non-teen titans vision.

Discuss: Are you still interested in seeing George Miller’s Justice League?

Oh God! Warner Brothers if you are reading this STOP PRODUCTION right now. You already have a quality Batman franchise with high-fan praise in your arsenal. We understand that you own all the DC properties but that doesn't mean that you should milk each one for all that you can.

There is ZERO interest in this movie. Do you hear me - ZERO! Although you are aiming this towards kids, you will still alienate generations of fans by hiring some O.C. meets One Tree Hill type of cast to portray our favorite superheros.

JUST STOP RIGHT NOW. JUST FUCKING STOP. Finish off Nolan's Batman franchise with a quality third film and bring back Brandon Routh for Superman:The Man of Steel. Superman Returns had many flaws, but none should be attributed to Routh.

Warner Brothers if you care about your fans at all you will stop production on this movie immediately which YOU ALREADY HAVE done. Put it in the can forever and don't let it come back.

    What he said.

Nothing would please me more than having this come out to be fantastic. That being said, I am so unfamiliar with the majority of the talent involved with this film (aside from WETA) that it's so hard to have confidence in its vision (which we have not been told about yet) If you're going to do something as big as Justice League, make it BIG.

First time husband and wife screenwriters? A director who's last film live action film was a children's film about a talking pig? Untried actors for the two biggest superheroes in the world and a debuting actress for the biggest and probably only iconic female superhero? Hmmmmmm.

Also, why do we need another ensemble superhero film? Are WB forgetting about Zach Snyder's Watchmen?
  • sorry
    was i ever?

/SIGH.... New writers please... get someone who writes for the animated DC shows... and then please for the love of get get some new actors! Adam Brody as the flash?! Seriously... has he ever played any type of role other than the sarcastic awkward geeky kid? Him playing the overconfident boardering on cocky Flash is like a complete 180 for him! Not to mention he has the build of a toothpick... Put whatever size muscle suit you want on him but it wills just make him look worse because he'll then look like he just has a shrunken head.

I want this movie to be good so badly but they're going down the wrong path... I wish DC could control their own movies like how marvel now does

So much bad news in one day...I thought this was dying or dead, and that made me happy. The idea of JL has potential beyond their wildest dreams and yet...They only see down the road this far?

    /film...bring me some good news.

That cast makes me angry. It is disrespectful to these iconic characters. It is disrespectful to the fans and creators of these characters. It is disrespectful to all of the artists, writers, and inkers who have worked on their comic books and cartoons. I hope the resulting boxoffice catastrophe leaves the smug WB execs homeless.

    two words...

    NAME RECOGNITION

I don't have a clue who any of those people are other than Common and he's a bad rapper. I doubt he can act. This movie will bomb due to lack of interesting characters. Scrap it now... revamp it... or move on to another job, cuz you obviously don't have a clue.

    Fire your casting director... NOW!

Wanna know the worst part? I'm not even a comic book fan, and I'm appalled at this.
  • Dan
I agree with all above. This should be scrapped immediately. None of these people look remotely close to their parts and its just gonna be a huge failure, which will likely result in killing off superhero movies due to the companies thinking they are phasing out. Current events has people everywhere wanting a good superhero movie to look up to, and this won't be it if they continue in this direction.
  • T-MACK
Common is a fantastic rapper, Cenzo. Period. Don't know what kind of hip hop you're used to hearing, but Common, for more than a decade now, has been behind some of the most refreshing hip hop to come out of Chicago. He deserves all the success he's getting.
  • Craig
I wasn't too keen to see this without a definitive story in the first place. Then to see the cast and hear that a pair of first timers are writing this (seemingly without any touch ups)? Just leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I'll take a wait and see attitude as I do with most movies based on comics, but I'm not excited about what I have heard so far.
  • Orange cinema
ugh, i thought we had dodged a bullet, and that this was gonna fade away. milller's cool, but this cast is a fucking joke, bring the strike back!!
  • Joe
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the concept, regardless of what happens I'm looking forward to it, but something that could be as cool as this needs better talent in-front of and behind the camera.
  • Cenzo
Common should stick to rapping then if you think he's so good. I for one won't be tuning in to his hip-hop motifs OR his acting in this film.

This whole movie just screams like a 'Street Fighter' version of a flick... and we all know that blew chunks. There are times when no-name actors are better in films... such as in Cloverfield, but in this case it seems the crew is relying on the brand names of Superheros to sell the flick... and they are greatly mistaken. They need to do THEIR part to make the movie good... don't rely on the concept.
  • some_dude
someone start a petition against this movie and send it to WB ... I for one would sign it
  • WB please don't go through with this production. It screams epic bomb. I can already tell it's gonna be a epic hunk of shit just from the casting alone. WB PLEASE JUST SCRAP THIS SHIT AND MAKE SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL AND YES I KNOW SUPERMAN RETURNS WASN'T THE BEST BUT IT WASN'T THAT BAD NEITHER. BRING BACK BRANDON ROUTH AND BRYAN SINGER SO THAT THEY CAN MAKE A BIGGER MORE ACTION-PACKED FILM THIS TIME AROUND!!!!! I KNOW SINGER WILL KNOCK IT OUT OF THE PARK!!!
  • Ralli
I'll never understand why people are so adamant for a film NOT to be made. If your a fan of the source material and your afraid of a studio royally fucking it up, then simply don't see it? Its not as if a 90 minute film is suddenly going to ERASE the decades of your untouchably perfect comic-book characters that you've worked up in your head.

I'll definently be paying the $11.00 to support it in the hopes that there will be future sequels that the internet can hold their breath and shit their pants about also.
  • Caedus
Ralli: "Its not as if a 90 minute film is suddenly going to ERASE the decades of your untouchably perfect comic-book characters that you’ve worked up in your head."

It's not the comicbook world in my head that I'm worried about. I'm much more concerned about the things that will be put into the heads of other non-comicbook fans who happen to like movies.

Comicbook readers, no matter how rabid or zealous, are small in number compared to fans of action/adventure films. Studios, of course, would want to make sure to make a film that would please not just us fans, but everyone as well.

Since these movies touch more people than comicbooks do, I think it would be better if these movies honor and respect the legacy of what the comicbook creators, writers and artists have worked on. People are much exposed to movies than comicbooks, and what casual viewers pick up from these movies will help create their own superhero world in their own minds. Wouldn't it be nice if what they fantasize about is close to what the comicbook artists and writers intended?
  • Yeah they should stop production on the movie, but bring it back later on. They should finish off Nolan's Batman films and Finish Singer's Superman films so that when they do film a Justice League movie they can cast Christian Bale and Brandon Routh in the roles, although they should leave Megan Gale, she has the eyes, all she has to do is put on the muscle. Martain Manhunter they should make him CG or something and have someone voice him, even though Phil Morris plays Jonn on Smallville, he should lend his voice. Think about WB.
  • Happy_Evil_Dude
    Aaaw man! C'mon!
  • ERNESTO
    BATMAN-Christian Bale
    FLASH-DANE COOK
    WONDER WOMEN-NADIA Bjorlin
    GREEN LATERN-Terrence Howard
    AQUAMAN-Paul Walker
    GREEN ARROW-Leonardo DiCaprio
    HAWK GIRL-Emma Stone
    BLACK CANARY-Krista Kalmus
    HUNTRESS-Ashley Leggat
    ZATANNA-LIV TAYLER

Anyone railing against Common as an actor obviously hasn't watched AMERICAN GANGSTER. Sure, rapper slash actor is fast becoming a cliche, but when they can act, then by all means let them try.
  • Jack
Why must everyone take comic books so god damn seriously? Why don't we enjoy them for what they and the resulting movies are meant to be ENTERTAINMENT? OK some of the comic book movies have been duds but so have a lot of other movies that have been adapted from books or short stories. LIGHTEN UP PEOPLE ! Not every movie made can make every person watching it happy, the fact that these characters have been around for a long time and people have a pre concieved idea in their own mind of what they should look like or behave can not make the studios job easy. When the movie comes out, enjoy it for what it is a homage to the original comicbook story line and if you dont like it dont buy the DVD
