i totally want a sequel of cloverfield but kick the doco style i thought it was great but it kind of defeats the whole purpose of watching a film i also want more of those parisites it probly costs the filmmakers alot of money but they were awesome but definetly another monster oh and matt reeves did a superp job at directing the first one if theres a second he would be perfect

The sequel should definetly be a documentary style film that sheds light on backstory and origins from a military/government standpoint. Personaly I loved everything about the film..the visuals, the vagueness, the tragic ending. But those qualities are also the reason a lot of viewers disliked the film. So i feel a doc. could definetly balance things out and perhaps even enhance the first film…but only if done right. Otherwise fuck it.

I think they should definitely make a cloverfield 2. The dvd special features said that the monster was a baby who was looking for its mother…? so a second film may have a reunion. I would hate to see what the mother looked like then. They should either take it from other peoples persepective of the same night or follow the guy on the bridge we thought died, or they should pickup somewhere in the movie and go past the ending so we know what happens. There are too many unanswered questions.

I agree that they shouyld make number 2 about the army’s prespective cause some army peeps have cameras on their guns or helmets so that would be cool.

According to Wikipedia, a sequel is confirmed for 2009, but then again people change and add things on that site so better not believe it right away, but I will say this, isn’t a little too soon? two, three years at least

I’m sorry that I’m not enraptured by sub par story telling and arcs that go nowhere. In truth there isn’t much on TV nowadays that is really worthy of praise and I admit that LOST stands out amongst the garbage, but come off it fanboys.

JJ fanboys get over yourselves. The movie was ok. Not great, not very memorable, just ok. Lost is mediocre at best. I never used to be into the whole JJ hating/bashing thing, but after all the hype surrounding Cloverfield, and my how disapointing it was, I just may start. ST is his shot to redeem himself and as each day passes I worry more and more that he will screw that up too.

Okay, here’s my take on a sequel. In order to make it successful it needs what most good films need: character development. Oddly enough I was just thinking about this the other night when mulling over the 1997 (?) remake of Godzilla. The FX were pretty decent in that film and quite a bit of fun. What mucked it up though were the flimsy excuses for characters and some silly love interest subplot. I say give me Cloverfield 2 (even the same monster could work) but give me characters I care about and then let me enjoy the destruction of the city.

I’m having a really hard time trying to decide whether or not i’d like to see a sequel to this one.
One side of me is saying ah damn it, let the sleeping dog be. You know? It was such a original movie and i believe that a sequel could destroy it.
But on the other hand, i love monster movies and i’d love to see more of it. You know, where did it come from? How did it get there? Is there more of them? Why did it attack? And what about the parasites? As ‘TheKillingJoke’ said, it would be cool if they captured some of the parisites and kept them alive to study their origins and stuff of that nature, right?
If thers is gonna be a Cloverfield 2, i’d like to see it in a kind of documentary style. Clips from the news, info from the military and other people who survived the attack.
Gah, i cant make up my mind about this one.

I wonder would it be possible to extend the 9/11 metaphor? Maybe make the next movie appear to be like a number of the old “Godzilla Vs. Fill-In-The-Blank” flicks but have the two monsters represent the US and Al Queda.

its good to know that JJ is not quickly jumping into the bandwagon of sequels and milked cloverfield to dry. I guess the reason that I’m writing this is because from a movie fan point of view is that Cloverfield have a lot of potentials that could go into any directions and possibilities, Finally, a movie that intrigued me to care about it before and after it was released. Sprinkled with lot’s hidden surprises on the net.

JJ’s have open up a new style of movie making and I hate to see it go to waste underneath piles of other upcoming crappy big budget hollywood movie.

Cloverfield 2 or not, I’ll be on line to see his next movie.
