I for one think the new plot is great, it keeps unintelligent people from bringing back their toy story toys to the store in real life. Disney probably doesnt like the idea of a recall even if it is fake it presents a bad image for the company.

The old plot was good too, with SID coming back from Military School and so on, but they moved houses after the first film so there were some complications with the likelyhood of his return in their new neighborhood.

Big companies dont like the word RECALL on anything, even if its fake, plus people are stupid now. Just look at the woman suing mcdonalds for making her kids fat. People would probably think the recall was real and bring back their toy story toys to the stores. overall I think the plot change is a great idea, they always wondered what a life after ANDY would be like, now we get to see that come true, I for one also liked the original plot for part 2, which was SID the evil menace gets out of Military School and so on and so forth...but I dont think that idea lasted long.

toy story is classic.
besides, once youve seen the first one youve fallen in love with the characters.
my little brother whose 5 saw toy story for the first time the other day and now hes obsessed and watches ts 1 and 2 all day. so im sure the new generation of kids will embrace the third installment.

The problem is with the title, "Toy Story".
A story about toys. the second movie addressed, rather in a wicked way, that we out grow our toys and they become collectibles as adults. In that movie, by pathetic, flawed adults a circle is somewhat complete.
The only way to keep it's innocents and sense of wonder is that a "toy", is transfered to a new generation. The basis of a third movie lies in that premise if it's going to have a chance. It has to take the natural progression of our own worldly experience. It's logical and simple with the promise of something as sweet as the first two. Anything else is hack.

NUFF, SAID!

I think the Toy Story 3 plot line looks like it's going to be a huge hit, and as "un-neccessary" as it is, it will still bring laughter and countless smiles to the watchers. Having said that, I hope they do a good job on this film because it would be a shame to ruin Toy Story 1 & 2 by the making of a third.

I hope it's a big hit! :)

We were around the original Disney TS3 project for over a year…it’s hard to say how it would have turned out, as we all know it takes years to cobble together a great animated film, (Ratatoulle a perfect example). But, there were some fantastic, creative superstars working on the beloved project before the buyout…followed by a lot of disappointment.

But we agree that it was only fitting that Pixar was able regain control of their baby… absolutely! At the time, though, I think a lot of people working on the “Recall” project felt, if Disney were going to actually make these sequels, they might as well put their hearts and souls in to them. Interestingly enough, the “recall” version, did have a pretty funny Day Care scene in it. Maybe some day when all of the hard feeling have past, some of the work on the recall project will be released…just for kicks…and FYI, it was way past “treatment” stage…an
“A” list award winning screenwriter penned the first couple of TS3 drafts…and they were pretty far down the line with story reels as well. But, can’t wait to see what the geniuses at Pixar pull off! See ya.

And Chip, I totally agree with you on the teaser trailer. But now that Disney and Pixar have merged, they seem to have changed the tradition, instead showing a trailer for the Disney CGI movie that comes out in the fall, then with that movie they show a teader for the next Pixar. Which royally sucks. If this is in fact the tradition, we won't see a teaser until Fall of '09 because Disney has a CGI version of "A CHristmas Carol" coming out at that time. On the other hand, they might just do an early trailer because we've waited so long for TS3 anyways, so they might just decide to let us have a peek.
And I also agree with the fact that there should be no footage from the actual movie whatsoever. Keep it all tightly-wrapped. And make it HUGE. Like Chip said, start off with a huge slogan, like "Fifteen years ago, children all over the world fell in love with a cowboy and a spaceman. Now, they're finally BACK." Something like that that, then show Woody and Buzz doing something, like in the Wall-E ad for the Superbowl (I almost cried when I saw that, by the way). I can guarantee everyone in the theatre will be applauding or shrieking, or something. At least, I hope they do so I don't look like a comlpete idiot.
Holy crap I need to shut up!! Sorry everyone I just have a lot to say about this movie. Overall, I just want it to be really good. =]

Though I wouldn't have done things exactly the way Pixar is doing with this film, I have absolutely no doubt in them. They've never disappointed me my whole life, and Toy Story is my favourite movie of all time, so I have no reason to worry about this movie (and for the record, even if it sucks, I'll probably see it in theatres a million times). The Taiwan plot could have been good, but a) it's just the 2nd movie's plot but on a higher level, b) There was no Pixar involvement and c) Because Pixar wasn't involved, a lot of the voice cast would likely not have returned (i.e. John Ratzenberger, who's loyalty belongs to Pixar) so a lot of the characters' voices would have changed. With the Daycare plot, the movie is obviously targeted at kids, but Pixar is fully aware that the kids who saw Toy Story when they were 5 will be 20 years old when this movie comes out, so the plot needs to have enough maturity that the older kids will still be able to identify with it (but I doubt that's going to be an issue with the writerss). In terms of when in the story the toys get abandoned, it can go one of two ways: Andy could go off to college and drop off the toys at some daycare at the beginning of the movie, leaving the entire film to be about the toys dealing with being abandoned. On the other hand, the whole movie could be about Andy's insecurity about giving up the toys he so dearly loved as a child, then finally deciding it's time to let them go at the END of the film. Personally, I'm rooting for the 2nd option, because though Andy was only seen for about 20-30 minutes in the first movie, and maybe 10 in the 2nd, he's still one of the main components of the story, so if they wrote him out of the story at the very beginning, then it would be a step away from the first two movies, because Andy would be out from the beginning, and Pixar should try to keep the whole series as tightly knit story-wise as they can. If Andy giving away the toys turns out to be the climax of the movie instead, or even at some point in the middle, then at least the story won't be jumping too far from the originals. After all, like I said, Andy is an integral part of the Toy Story formula, so to cut him out at the beginning would just not be right. But you know what, like I said as well, even if this movie is the worst movie ever made (which it won't because it's Pixar), I'm still gonna see it until I know ever line by heart, because I've waited for this movie ever since I was 6 and walked out of the showing of Toy Story 2, turned to my mom, and said "I can't wait for Toy Story 3!!" And almost nine years later, that's still the way I feel.

They’ve never disappointed me my whole life, and Toy Story is my favourite movie of all time, so I have no reason to worry about this movie (and for the record, even if it sucks, I’ll probably see it in theatres a million times).
