In Kill Bill: Vol. 2, Budd has to clean up a particularly fouled strip club restroom, and right now I have to write a Black Eyed Peas casting post. Night capping the last few days of X-Men Origins: Wolverine news, BEP member will.i.am (the one who looks like Wyclef) will star as John Wraith aka Wraith aka Kestrel, a mutant with teleportation powers and a thing for explosives who, in comic canon, belonged to Team X alongside Wolverine, Sabretooth (Liev Schreiber), Maverick, Mastodon and Silverfox (Lynn Collins). This casting news arrives via IESB. The musician-actor, real name William James Abrams, Jr., previously starred on the TV show Cane, and the big budget film marks his feature debut. No word if he’ll contribute to the soundtrack or will have a scene teaching Gambit how to rap obnoxiously.

In a flick more befitting a BEP, rapper Taboo (the one who looks like he has a crystal skull), will star in 2009’s Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, the second big screen incarnation of Capcom’s classic video game series. Taboo’s role has not been officially announced, but First Showing speculates he might be up for the still unfilled roles of Ryu, Ken, or Guile. If so, total hilarity. Also joining the film, which is directed by Doom’s Andrzej Bartkowiak, are American Pie’s Chris Klein (as Nash), the formidable Michael Clark Duncan (as Balrog), Korean American actor Rick Yune (Gen), and others. Smallville’s Kristin Kreuk is in the title role. Did Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia teach our society nothing in 1994?

Discuss: What is the point of casting the Black Eyed Peas in genre movies? Also, anyone want to be /Film’s BEP movie news-gathering intern?

  • Christopher Edwards
This movie is in the balance for me now, if he is in the film for more than 15 minutes and has to rap or dance or something that shows what he does in his real job then it will suck and make the film lower in my favorite films of 09.

But if he is in for a brief moment, like he is locked away in a cage and you see him as someone goes past. then it will be good to see him.

P.S i would be interested in being the intern if more details are given

Y DONT THEY JUST MAKE A MOTION CAPTURE FILM OF STREET FIGHTER?
  • I really hope that he isn't in it for too long, I've been excited about this release and really can't stand BEP...!
  • larry
    Dear Danny,

Just because you dislike someone's music doesn't mean you automatically hate the film in which they are in. For example, take Russell Crowe. 30 Odd Foot of Grunts? Fucking terrible. A Beautiful Mind? Great! Million Dollar Baby? Great! Cinderella Man? Great! 3:10 to Yuma? Great! See where I'm going with this?
  • Nat
Was Russell Crowe in Million Dollar Baby?

Was locked away in a cage as someone passes by?
  • Orange cinema
    @ larry:
russell crowe in million dollar baby...was he the boxer who threw the tragic cheap shot at Swank in her last fight?

    @ hunter:
    im on the intern-BEP-info hunt!

as for wolverine, this cast is getting a little bloated, i still have faith - as this worked out ok for X1 & X2 - lets just hope Hood can keep it all reigned in like Singer.

those kind of casting to me always seem like there just doing it to get those fans into the theatres or to buy the dvd it seems like they cast them for they're gorupies

    especialy the street fighter casting
  • clint pentecost
I'm interested in the internship. Thanks
  • AICN says that Ryu, Ken and Guile are not in this movie at all...that's why they are not cast. My guess for Taboo is VEGA. He has the long hair like Vega, looks kinda pretty like Vega and is of Spanish descent like Vega. The main issue though is that Vega is a skilled martial artist...well surprise surprise...Taboo is actually trained in the martial art of Jeet Kune Do.
  • Where is the love? Thats a song they did. Why not just make Fergie Wonder Woman and kill me now.
  • larry
    @myself

i confused million dollar baby with cinderella man. my bad, self. i think it was because crowe mentioned the movie in passing once in an interview, and i associated that with him.

either way, in my list, replace that with American Gangster, which is also great.
  • Phil J
Well I'm not too worried for Will since he's a pretty talented person. I think he can handle a small role just fine. I've never really seen the other guy much so it could go either way.
  • dream
ken and ryu arent even in it?! bummer
  • Cawlin
why cast musicians in small parts...why!? Cast little known ACTORS in small parts because they are actors and they make the whole thing more believable.
  • Rachel Summers
fucking lana lane is Chun-Li?! I am disgraced. I am shamed. Chun-Li is one of my favorite characters in anything of all time, and they pick a little teeny bopper to play her! This movie can burn in hell.

maggie Q would have been fucking perfect. a real fucking WOMAN!

As opposed to dear Rachel above me, who has the same amout of grace of a real woman that a baboon does....

I'm lost...why is william even in the movie to start with? Does he have an acting background or is it only performance? Those are two wholly different capabilities. There are a lot of musicians that have successfully done movies...by success, I'm referring to the movie not tanking. Not about their acting abilities. Almost every last one of them suck so bad that it takes a mega-song-star a series of movies before people dont ridicule them.

The Crowe analogy is just a plain fallacy to mention, shame on you for twisting the whole concept. Crowe is not a good singer. I doubt he ever will be unless he retires to it. But as a profession, he sucks at it. Acting and stage performance are not the same thing. People watch movies from a generally quiet point of view unless its a comedy.

Music, on the other hand, is not even written by most of the performers these days---thats why they're called PERFORMERS. Todays top pop talents havent written jack. Thats not to say I dont like the music, because I do. But face it - they are nothing more than street-performers that got good marketing.

Who's the most famous popstar of the last decade - Britany Spears. Anyone happen to catch her movie? Yea...enough said.

Acting takes talent. Some actors are crappy but are marketed by people with investments in them - like Rob Lowe these days.

One thing I definitely agree with - BEP peeps are only going into those movies because they already have the name recognition to guarantee a successful movie from those that would otherwise not watch it. Have we forgotten how bad the Rock sucked when he started acting? How much the rest of the cast hated the crap out of working with him because of lack of talent? took, what, 10 years for him?

Making a street fighter movie without Ken, Ryu and Guile and with Nash whom many did not know ( specially the older SF fans ho now are between 25 and 30 something ) is a risky choice. And so is casting characters ho are not martial artist and specialyzed in this kind of movie.

Yeti do you thing taboo is pretty?? Wich is your nearsightedness degree? Maybe you should switch your glasses lol. Maybe taboo has some spanish descent, but he must also have a big part of his ancestry in native latin american indians because he looks far more like a native indian than a spaniard. Actually a used to think he was fillipino/asian until find out he was mexican lol. Javier Bardem should be a betther choice for the role since he is a actual spaniard is much more athletic and is also a amateur boxer hinself.

Those hollywood producers think that as it is an action movie targered specially on younger audiences they dont need to make a big effort on casting and bulding up the story as they would if it was a "serious" movie. that's a lack of respect with the audience and with SF fans!

Yeah! If the Black Eyed Peas will star in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li It's like Marvel Vs. Capcom and Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter all over again Marvel Vs. Capcom and Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter came out way back in the late 90's and early 2000's and now these video game movies just came out in 2009, I remember when I used to play Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter and Marvel Vs. Capcom back in Grade School and High School in Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter, When I battle the Computer Chun-Li's partner is Wolverine, How I Wish Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li and X-Men Origins: Wolverine will come out in both cinemas at the same day, so that the cinemas will be jampacked like Hotcakes and most of the original fans including me and us are in our 20's and 30's now and now it just came out, Hopefully Im waiting for the wait to happen thats why Im really excited to watch it.
