    color seems a bit off

  2. Gravatar

I think this looks pretty cool, about what I remember from the movie. Now I just wish they’d release pics of the parasites…

  3. Gravatar

Great. Some of America has not seen this movie… This blog is usually really good about keeping spoilers hidden for only those that wish to see. Hopefully seeing the monster first won’t have an effect on the film.

  4. Gravatar

    it was white????
that dosent really look anything like the monster from the movie.

  5. Gravatar

As an avid film to toy collector this is one of the worst modeling jobs I’ve seen. It’s like someone described the monster to Hasbro and they imagined the rest. I’m not going to give away any more details of the creature, but Jeff’s got nothing to worry about if he hasn’t seen the flick yet. It’s much more impressive in the film. And no, it wasn’t white.

  6. Gravatar

“Statue of Liberty’s head” has to be one of the best toy accessories ever.

  7. Gravatar

    Jeff,

I think everyone who was really serious about not having the monster spoiled for them has already managed to find 80 minutes to watch the movie. Quit trollin’

  8. Gravatar

Not to diss on a bitch, but the monster looked fatter in the movie.

  9. Gravatar

So, to recreate the head breathing sac, you just have to keep switching back between the two heads really, really fast?

  10. Gravatar

Looks like crap. Shame someone with better talent and quality in mind couldn’t have created the action figure. Looks like something that would go for $10 rather than $100.

  11. Gravatar

That’s Clover’s albino cousin. Please don’t make fun of his “condition”.

  12. Gravatar

Awesome. Thanks, Pete! All that carefully avoiding spoilers for the last month shot down the tubes. Cinemaniac1979, I *was* serious about not being spoiled, and I haven’t had time to go see the thing yet. Guess this means if I’m avoiding spoilers, I can’t come here either. At least now I know.

  13. Gravatar

Cinemaniac, I am a big J.J. Abrams fan and do have a serious desire to see this film. Unfortunately Im a full time student that also works a night job, and I honestly haven’t found the time. The last film I saw in theaters was There Will Be Blood. But I respect your opinion.

  14. Gravatar

hey i only saw cloverfield this week because i haven’t had time. but if i saw a link to an article that said “Cloverfield Monster — Revealed” i would have avoided clicking that link. much like the links to the reviews of the film and everyone commenting on it.

no spoiler alerts needed here, just a little will power to move on.

  15. Gravatar

Looks like a wingless bat. Wonder if that’s where the “creature” came from.

  16. Gravatar

iProtestant, I agree 100% with you. Too bad it wasn’t just a link, the pictures are embedded in the main page. But thank you for your sentiments.

  17. Gravatar

They released a TV trailer after Cloverfield came out that showed the monster (and its face) up close. Why would Slashfilm need to put a spoiler up for something that has been shown on cable television?

  18. Gravatar

Like I said, this creature looks hilariously bad.

The “black whale” creature concept that was floating around on the net for months is so much cooler than this one. They should have ripped that one off.

  19. Gravatar

Thanks A LOT…you just spoiled the movie for me.

  20. Gravatar

    Thanks for the spoilers buddy.

Not everyone has seen this movie and I’ve spent the last 12 months steering clear of anything describing the Cloverfield monster.

    Thanks truely, thanks.

  21. Gravatar

Actually, the look of the monster has little to nothing to do with the story.

  22. Gravatar

You never see it as clear as that toy pic.

  23. Gravatar

    Crap as the movie itself!

  24. Gravatar

Alright guys, the movie has been out for almost a month. Would someone please tell me what the acceptable time period is for us to walk on eggshells so we don’t ruin anything for the johnny-come-latelys? Should we wait three months? Six? How about we just don’t talk/post on it until the DVD has been out for a few weeks for the renters? Maybe we should have a system where everyone who visits movie sites can check off the movies they’ve seen so that we can only talk about the ones that have a 100% check-off rate?

Anyone who was genuinely serious about seeing this spoiler free should’ve been in the theater at least two weeks ago. I call fair game on all spoilers.

  25. Gravatar

Cinemaniac…it’s called “common courtesy.” Perhaps you’ve heard of it? I can avoid the postings that may have spoilers, that’s not a problem, but when a web site posts a spoiler RIGHT ON THE FRONT PAGE…well, that’s just asking for trouble. Might I suggest to /Film that you utilize a “spoiler-alert” system much like AICN?

  26. Gravatar

Cinemaniac1979: is vote that when it’s on TBS it’s safe to say the secret is out.

after that people, no more cryin’.

btw, this toy sucks and in no way will spoil the movie for you, there is ***spoiler alert*** no big reveal.

  27. Gravatar

also, if you goto more than one movie site, i suggest a news feed reader. all you see is a link. try netvibes or something.

  28. Gravatar

    @kiko:

    “Crap as the movie itself!”

Do not hate a film simply because it does not dumb itself down for your own simplistic mind.

  29. Gravatar

    @ Gabe:

Common courtesy? Get a clue, troll. GG….

Anyway, this is not a spoiler. Seeing the look of the monster is, in no way, ruining the plot of this movie. Gut-bursting venom from the parasites, on the other hand, would be a spoiler.

  30. Gravatar

Am I the only one who thinks “calm” Cloverfield from the bottom photo bears a strong resemblance to the Rancor from Return of the Jedi (especially the head)? Perhaps Cloverfield is the Rancor’s albino cousin?

By the way, I *loved* Cloverfield and can’t wait to see it again! It’ll probably be the first Blu-ray I purchase.

    - Tate

  31. Gravatar

    @ B33

    Stop being an asshole.

Just because you liked a movie, doesn’t mean everyone who didn’t has a “simplistic mind”.

    Fuckwit.

  32. Gravatar

Though I know it’s been said, I just want to agree that this looks absolutely nothing like monster in the movie. It could just be the proportions based on the picture, but the leg lengths look way off not to mention the color and torso shape. This looks like they took an old bat figurine and cut the wings out from between its legs and arms. All-in-all poorly done I say.

  33. Gravatar

Hey now I can actually see what the monster really looked like.

  34. Gravatar

You avoid spoilers for 12 months, but then click on a link that says “Cloverfield Monster Reveiled” ???

    Give me a break.

PS. All the lead characters die.

  35. Gravatar

$100 is too damn much for me and ITS NOT FUCKING WHITE!!!

  36. Gravatar

i swear the monster changes each time you see him, like twice in the film, and now this toy.

is he NY city rampage scale or i just ate that Hud guy scale?

  37. Gravatar

    “Stop being an asshole.

Just because you liked a movie, doesn’t mean everyone who didn’t has a “simplistic mind”.

    Fuckwit.”

Pardon me for not resorting to childish games such as calling one an “asshole” or “fuckwit”. Your immaturity seems to know no bounds… But that’s besides the point.

The point of the matter was that I was simply stating a point that a majority of people disliked the film because of the ending. It went right over their heads, so-to-speak. I wasn’t necessarily the biggest fan of the film either. Kind of presumptuous to think as much.

  38. Gravatar

I think this toy looks bad because, you know, it’s a really stupid looking monster to begin with. Cloverfield didn’t do it for me at all. I was expecting some sort of awesome, crazy, city crushing, mega monster…instead we got this thing which looks like Calista Flockhart about to wretch up her mid-morning danish.

Dumb looking monster = dumb looking toy.

  39. Gravatar

yikes wrote: “Looks like a wingless bat. Wonder if that’s where the “creature” came from.”

Looking at that pic, I think you just nailed the design inspiration. Looking at the head, the arms, the stance…….it’s pretty undeniable.

  40. Gravatar

    @ Noah

    “Give me a break.

PS. All the lead characters die.”

Genius sir, hats off to you!!!

  41. Gravatar

    This toy looks fucking stupid.
It is not even close to the movie version of the monster.

If I had a couple ounces of the crack that those people over at Hasbro were smoking when they designed this, I’d be rich.

  42. Gravatar

I agree, this toy could have been made MUCH better. I’m thinking Todd McFarlane should have taken a crack at this one. That’s just my opinion though…

  43. Gravatar

For those saying “it looks nothing like the monster” I swear you need your eyes checked.

The main problem is: Hasbro posed it wrong - it rarely stands that far up in the film, preferring a more hunched look.

The paint job is a little light, but not that much - the monster was approx the same color as the parasites, and they were a light/mid greyish color. Add in harsh white lights and a white backdrop - and the photos look washed out. That’s all.

The sacs are colored wrong tho, that’s for sure, and it should be a *little* darker.

  44. Gravatar

I thought its mouth was more triangular than that. Hum.

  45. Gravatar

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that hasbro based the toy off of the original concept art provided by the people who, you know, designed it.

So that’s probably what the monster is supposed to look like.

But if you think that seeing two minutes of handycam monster footage is more accurate than say, the people who invented the actual monster… then yes, your’re right… it looks nothing like the monster.

And the people complaining about the spoilers are right too. If you’re going to reveal the cloverfield monster toy please name the article something clearer than “Cloverfield Monster Toy Revealed.” Imagine my suprise when you revealed the cloverfield monster toy.

  46. Gravatar

    @ JJ Abrams:

An excellent post. The idiots saying this looks nothing like the monster must have seen a different film, because this looks EXACTLY like what I remember from the theatre and what I’ve seen elsewhere online.

    - Tate

  47. Gravatar

Weren’t the air sacks on his head red?

  48. Gravatar

Was that THE JJ Abrams replying?

  49. Gravatar

I have to agree with most of the posts here and elsewhere…this looks horrible.

Even assuming that the images we saw of the monster in the theater were distorted because of the “handycam”:
I still don’t think is worth 100 bones. I was hoping this was a joke until I saw Hasbro’s online store page:

A few thoughts on the pics:
    1) Where’s his tail? Looks like it could be in the first pic, but it’s noticeable absent from the third.
    2) Where are the air sacs? Assuming they’re at the top of the head shot, the color is way off.
    3) The detail on the model is just plain bad for that kind of price. I expect more from McFarlane models that are half the price and actually have very complicated color paint jobs.

I’ll reserve final judgment for the actual release with the parasites and the SoL head, but I definitely won’t be pre-ordering now.

  50. Gravatar

    @ B33, again.

You don’t like being called an asshole or a fuckwit?
    Then stop acting like one.

I hate you so fucking much.

  51. Gravatar

    @ Jackson Alsop:

“You don’t like being called an asshole or a fuckwit?
    Then stop acting like one.

I hate you so fucking much.”

I actually don’t mind. Your opinion is meaningless to me for a number of reasons. Mostly because of your immaturity and seemingly lack of intelligence (though intelligence is arguable so I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt).

And to put it quite simply, grow up. Let me know when you actually are old enough to have a conversation without having to resort to immaturity. I’d be surprised if your even out of Middle School yet with the way you are acting. It’s also interesting how you so freely use the word “hate”. It’s a strong word to use, and your immaturity is also shown by just how easily you throw the word around.

This comment box area is meant for intelligent and mature discussion. And it seems like you really can’t abide by those guidelines with the state of your comments.

  52. Gravatar

The color is really off. In the movie the two sacks on its head were red. This toy kinda looks like a rehash of the Malbogia toy from the Spawn series.

  53. Gravatar

I have not seen the movie but the head of that thing reminds me of Bram Stoker Dracula movie from the 90s with Gary Oldman… not really sure why.

  54. Gravatar

This looks way off from what i remember from the movie. It looks like they were in a rush to finish this and spent a few hours on the paint job before having the toy stolen from their desks before they finished. It just doesn’t even remind me much of the monster from the film. Terrible job if this is the final product.

  55. Gravatar

Its noty a spoiler if u see that the title says cloverfield monster toy pics y would u see it in the first place. U ruined it for yourself

  56. Gravatar

I wouldnt say spoiler either, the movie has been out a month, It is barely even showing anymore at the theater here. I say it is amazing the toy didnt come out before the movie like with many other toys from movies. A google image search for the “cloverfield monster” to this day will not even give you a glimpse of what the monster looks like.

  57. Gravatar

nice friggen spoiler man u just ruined the movie for me

  58. Gravatar

I Remember The Monster Being More Of A Greenish Brown Color. I Hope This Pic Is Just A Prototype Of The Action Figure, And They Are Painted

  59. Gravatar

Where The Hell Is Its Tail

  60. Gravatar

It’s a nice piece of work.

  61. Gravatar

actually the monster is a pallid white. straight from the horses mouth in this months special effects magazine Cinefex, the production team uses the term albino giant. the reason you never get get a feel for the monsters true color is because hes so freeking pale that he is absorbing the colors of his surroundings and its night time. and having seen the movie twice, other than the monster isnt hunched and a lil bit thicker the monster does look like this, there are more detailed pics on some other website that give you shots of every possible angle of this toy, he looks just like this and does have his tail.

  62. Gravatar

and by “isnt hunched and a lil bit thicker” i meant this toy, not the movie.

  63. Gravatar

Movie was great…I agree that the color is off and the details aren’t the same as in the film/photos. Id like to see something a bit closer to the color and detail. Id definitely buy it.
