Michael Bay has Already Written Transformers 2

Michael Bay TransformersThe Writers Strike is Officially Over, but no need to wait for Paramount/DreamWorks to hire a screenwriter to draft out a treatment for Transformers 2, because Michael Bay has already done the work himself.

“I’ve been writing Transformers 2. We’ve got our characters all designed. I always write all my scripts, my movies anyway so at least I’ve got something to give the writers. It’s like a template. We have a really good outline so I worked on that,” Bay told Rotten Tomatoes. “We had to because I want to make my date. I’m not going to let the strike take me down.”

“When you do your first movie, you break the back of it. Now we can have a lot more fun. We can actually make the depth of these characters more fun and a lot more interesting characters. To see actually what you can achieve visually, you never know. When you go into a movie, you never know visually. I think I’ve got a lot of fun, interesting, funny characters.”

A lot of people around the web are slamming Bay, saying that he’s not a writer and should stick to directing. I disagree. Bay is a great visual storyteller, and with him involved at the core story level, we’re sure to get a film with a lot more cinematic storytelling built in (instead of just the traditional action tentpole sequences). I could very well be wrong, but let’s wait and see.

Transformers 2 is tentatively scheduled to hit theaters on June 26th 2009.

I'd vote wrong but I liked the first one so it doesn't matter. In my opinion Bay's problem is he is all visual. He is all style and nothing beyond that. Don't get me wrong I dig the look of his films but I doubt he could write a script that you could watch with all the action taken out. I suspect he writes all the cool things he wants to see happen. But there is no logical or emotional thread that ties them together in a meaningful way. Having said that. It's not like I haven't seen almost all his movies opening day, so it's not like it doesn't work for him. Popcorn tastes good and explosions are cool.

I'm sure he's at least got all of the product placement lined up. The real characters of the movie.
  • Jerry Butler
I wonder if we'll get to see Bay's transforming aircraft carrier in this one.

    Early draft of the script:

    Scene 1
    Lights up,

    BOOM! BLAMMO! CAR CRASH!

    Roll credits
  • Way to support the WGA, douche. I'm sure they're real happy you didn't want their little strike to "take you down."
  • Lloyd
Heh. I'm sure the WGA at first was at first offended. Then they realized, a movie with giant robots fight each other, bad one liners, and things blowing up. Pretty much Michael Bay is the only one.

(Yes, I did like Transformers. And I don't mind Bay.)

    Michael Bay's Writing Process:

    1. Purchase Transformer's Toys, Model of Los Angeles, Fireworks.

    2. ???

    3. Profit.

I think Bay is lousy visual story teller and thats why I dislike him so much. His action is loud and colorful and over the top but it isn't very creative. The final scene is Transformers was so busy it was boring.

If Bay would work harder on other things, he would make better movies.

Michael Bay isn't even a director, let alone a writer.
    He is worse then Hitler

I hope we get to see a Mountain Dew-bot.

yeah i like transformers but not because it was good. and i have enjoyed other films from bay, although that is limited to 3 including transformers. yes i quite glad there will be another one but i'm not so sure it should be by bay as he made such a hash of the first one. the poor, limited storyline, the change of major characters into advertising gimmicks, some cheesy crap which in appearance looked to be the story of a youth growing up but in actual fact was meant to be a romantic involvement to round off the very limited storyline and no, actually it was just crap. it was meant to be transformers no one gives two about whether due to some kids found upon by transformers concludes in love involvement's. and what more the very closely link racial slur as jet last a whole three seconds and is completely disregarded afterward. the question still has to be "did this man ever watch any of the transformer cartoons? and who is he directing it for cause i think he'll find that even if there is children interested the major fans late twenties/thirties and would really appreciate some grounding when it come to writing.

this isn't hate mail, i'm just very critical. go on if you really think you can handle it i write again in hate fashion.

Didn't Spielberg produce the first film? Funny how he never gets any flack. i'm pretty sure he's the one who brought Bay onboard.

worse than (not 'then') Hitler?! I got alot of relatives who would disagree w you. I don't see what all the fuss is about, like peter said, he's just turning in core ideas to the writers which worked just fine in the first film. Pete I was gonna comment on a few things u posted but I can't really understand what you wrote, what's the racial slur thing you're talking about? That sentence u have doesnt make sense.

The story in the first movie was pretty god awful. Better storytelling on any given episode of 'The Smurfs'. Smurfbot? eyyyyy, I wish, ya bastids.
