A Red Band (read: uncensored or R-rated) trailer for the upcoming Judd Apatow-produced comedy Pineapple Express has hit the interwebs. I can’t imagine any of this drug humor could be shown in a green band version. Watch the new trailer below and tell me what you think.
Written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the superstar team behind SuperBad, The Pineapple Express is about a stoner (Rogen) process server named Dale Denton and his dealer (James Franco) Saul are who forced to go on the run from the police and gang leader (Gary Cole), after Dale witnesses a corrupt cop (Rosie Perez) commit a murder. So why is it called The Pineapple Express? Saul is selling a new type of pot known as “Pineapple Express.” Malick-influenced indie filmmaker David Gordon Green makes a huge departure from his critically acclaimed dramatic films (George Washington, All The Real Girls, and Snow Angels). Pineapple Express hits theaters on August 8th 2008.

Kinda hard to get a feel for this one. And it’s really bizarre that David Gordon Green is the director.
Looks like it’s going to be either a really original stoner comedy with a terentino twist or just completely miss and be horrible.
I love Green’s films, though I haven’t seen Snow Angels, so I’m hoping it’s going to be a good one.

i can’t wait.
by can’t wait, i mean, i can’t wait to smoke before going to see this, because i just don’t see it translating well otherwise.
i love franco and rogan, though, so i’ll be looking forward to it.

Love the musak

I think that looks pretty awesome, and the idea of a stoner action movie has a lot of potential. I especially love the foot-through-the-windshield scene. Very funny.

Looks great to me. As someone who finds Seth Rogan movies to be hit-or-miss (loved 40-Year-Old Virgin, hated Knocked-Up), this will probably be a hit for me. Drugs and murder: the classic combination.

Damn, and by Seth Rogen, I mean Judd Apatow.
February 12th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
What is the calm/rap song playing at the end of the trailer?
February 12th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
greatest thing on film…. and the song is M.I.A.’s paper planes
February 12th, 2008 at 5:03 pm
There Will Be Bongs.
Hope the theme song by Huey Lewis pans out. Not the biggest M.I.A. fan. Chromeo would have been killer for this trailer.
Foot through windshield is classic.

Holy crap. That looks awesome. I had no idea it was going to have action. I figured it was just going to be a mainstream pot smoking movie like Half Baked, just much better, of course. Wow. I’m totally psyched and may have even caught a little contact buzz off that one. Thanks /Film!

Definitely think this is James Franco’s best performance ever, by far, and I’ve only seen this trailer and the clip on the ‘Superbad’ DVD. Reminds me of a very drugged-up version of ‘48 Hrs.’

Fucking rad. Thank you Peter! You the man.
February 12th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
That was hilarious.
I really can’t wait for this movie!!!!
February 12th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
i don’t smoke weed, nor do i plan on it, but this looks hilarious. i saw harold and kumar in a theater with potheads. we all laughed a lot. so what i’m saying is, if you love freaks and geeks, or movies, this will be awesome.
February 12th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Wow, this is honestly, probably the most original thing I’ve seen in a long time.
“That is good weed… That is good weed… THAT IS GOOD WEED!” LOL

Good to see that Franco’s back with the Apatow crew - I LOVE how they keep using the same actors in everything, the movies just feel so familiar. And love the style of this one, especially the typography. Seems like almost all comedies nowadays have HUGE RED BLOCK WRITING that just feels…. dumb…

i like the cinematogarphy in it
it looks like the new superbad
February 13th, 2008 at 12:33 am

February 13th, 2008 at 12:42 am
This movie looks great, the Apatow geniuses got another hit on their hands.
February 13th, 2008 at 12:43 am
i had the opportunity to go to an early screening for this back in august, and i have to say it surpasses any of apatow’s films by far. i was a bit skeptical about the chemistry between franco and rogan before attending this, but they just complemented each other perfectly.
February 13th, 2008 at 12:52 am
“Not a Compliment” “You are high as a fucking kite” I really hope there are more gems like these. I’m stoked about this flick ahah

Judd is the Steven Spielberg of Comedy. Ok, maybe Mel Brooks is ahead but of this century he is
February 13th, 2008 at 9:13 am
So apatow is producing right? I’m not sure why he’s getting so mucn credit already when Green is the director. Weird stuff.
February 13th, 2008 at 11:09 am
A-list names always get credit for stuff, even if they have little to do with it. Notice on the poster it’s not just “Hostel 2″, it’s “Quentin Tarantino presents Hostel 2″.

why make movies marketed to potheads everyone know that they torrent
February 13th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
OHHH WOAH IT IS THE NEXT JUDD APATOW MOVIE WRITTEN DIRECTED AND ACTED IN BY JUDD APATOW, I LOVE JUDD APATOW.
Really though, I’m a big fan of his, but I’m also a david gordon green fan, I hope he gets SOME recognition if this movie is any good.

Enjoy puff as much as the next guy, but that looks like load of crap. Seth Rogan’s popularity is surly a sign of the impending Apocalypse. Baffles me to this day.
February 13th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
I usually hate stoner comedies but this actually looks good. The M.I.A. track kind of sells it for me.
February 13th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
Jerry Butler said “why make movies marketed to potheads everyone know that they torrent”
but they got pothead girlfriends who need a night on the town every three months.
February 13th, 2008 at 8:34 pm

February 13th, 2008 at 8:36 pm

February 14th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
