I wonder if George Lucas has one of those Paint the Earth signs hanging on the walls of his mansions like in The Real World 3 (or was it 2?). USA Today has scored a somewhat muddy first look at what Anakin Skywalker aka Young Darth will look like in the upcoming Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the new 3-D computer-animated flick officially set to open in theaters domestically on August 15th, thus kicking off the new, same-named computer-animated television series that will air on Cartoon Network (a la the rather awesome, hand drawn Clone Wars animated miniseries) and on TNT. Hi synergy, my name is Hunter, you are making me tired.
In a surprising detail, Lucasfilm has teamed up with Warner Bros. to release Star Wars: The Clone Wars theatrically, on television and on DVD. This marks the first time 20th Century Fox won’t be handling a theatrical Star Wars release. The film’s events are said to take place between Episode II - Attack of the Clones and Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. That’s funny, it takes place right around when I decided the ‘99-’05 trilogy was a travesty.
The character to the left of Anakin is Ahsoka, his Jedi apprentice, who oddly didn’t appear in character or dialogue in the prior films and looks like the creation of a 50-cent avatar machine.

Sorry to contradict you Hunter dude, but this is not the first time Fox isn’t handling Star Wars. Indeed, while Fox distributes the two Ewok TV films (Caravan Of Courage & Battle For Endor) on DVD, they were originally broadcast on ABC (aka Disney) and distributed on home video by MGM.
Anyway, will The Clone Wars get released to theaters internationally? That would be cool.

Also, Clone Wars was not “hand drawn” at all. The 3d rendering has a 2d look, that’s all.
February 12th, 2008 at 8:04 am
@bla:
The first Clone Wars WAS hand drawn, but also have 3D elements (used most especially in space).
I, for one, am super-excited about this new series, and the new movie!
February 12th, 2008 at 8:10 am
Isn’t that Jedi Master “Shaak ti” beside Anakin? She’s one of the few Jedi to escape Order 66 in Ep3…( In the film, not the script) And if its suppose to take place between Ep 2 and 3…Anakin is not a Jedi master and thus cannot take on an apprentice.
Dammit Hunter, you are suppose to know these things!!
:P

@redandjonny–
No, that’s Ahsoka, just some young Padawan.
As far as the Master/Apprentice deal goes, she most likely is just some Padawan that Yoda sent to learn from Anakin and Obi-Wan. Like, there’s no official Master/Apprentice deal between them, but she’s just along for the ride.
And all Padawans refer to any Jedi above them as “Master”
February 12th, 2008 at 8:43 am
Like Happy_Evil_Dude said, could you double check your facts before blogging about them? It seems like you are so anxious to post news you don’t bother writing correct information. A lot of your film references seem incredibly forced and heavy-handed. Not only that, but what self-respecting man doesn’t like westerns? How could you diss an entire genre of film? That’s akin to saying “I don’t like adventure films, they are simply too rugged for me.”
Seriously, pull your nose out of Tarantino’s ass. The Mickey Knox reference is way too much. Other than that, I love the site. Keep up the good work.
February 12th, 2008 at 9:04 am
Jimbo’s got a point. A damn good one too.
I love this freakin site, but ever since this flood of Hunter-isms, I’m really starting to long for the days of strictly Sciretta. Peter is much more cohesive, comical, and accurate when it comes to his posts. Hunter always seems to haphazardly throw all his thoughts and sh** together. And his humor is more often than not, completely lost on me. I mean….I get it. Just ain’t funny.
Anybody feel me?

THE FORCE RETURNS!!!! expect new
characters such as commander REX
Rotto the HUTT (jabba’s son or nephew)
and other jedi, plus asajj ventress has a
bigger role this time!!!
STAR WARS NERDS OF THE WORLD UNITE!!!!
the Force is UNLEASHED in august 2008!!!!!
February 12th, 2008 at 10:05 am
Since when does a padawan take on a padawan? The Togruta next to him, Ahsoka, is NOT his padawan. Anakin was never given the rank of Jedi Master, only Sith Lord, who later took on a Sith apprentice behind the back of his Master, Darth Tyranus.

My God, Lucas has a big need for money..
I bet he wants to build a massive Money Bin like the one Scrooge McDuck have.
February 12th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Ummm
That is Ahsoka. You guys check your facts. You can check your “facts” by simply going to the USA Today link, or you can check the trades. Same facts. The photo caption at USA Today says: “Animated Jedi Anakin Skywalker, right, fights alongside apprentice Ahsoka in Clone Wars.” They received the photo first. I checked it out elsewhere before I wrote the piece, and there is another pic of Ahsoka.
R&J = bust. Sorry, but you are wrong. It’s lame to call me out for something that is correct. It’s doubly lame to say that “I’m supposed to know these things.” When, um, it’s factually correct. That’s called heckling/smearing. Heckle away by all means.
If you actually read the post, it says that this marks the first time 20th Century Fox will not be releasing a THEATRICAL STAR WARS FILM. I said nothing about Ewok-tie-ins.
If anything, it’s the jumpy Star Wars fans who like to chime in with indulgent knowledge while violently shaking their glow-in-the-dark Ewok toothbrushes about details that were misread in the first place.
I don’t care about Star Wars really post the original trilogy. Nor am I obliged to give a damn about it b/c I write for a film website. The last three films were pathetic, cardboard-like cash-and-grabs that Lucas played up for decades like the second coming. Sure, Star Wars: The Clone Wars might be cool. I didn’t say it wouldn’t be above, and I liked the first Clone Wars cartoon for what it was, especially when I watched it with the sound off.
So, tadow.

@ Jimbo
When in the hell did I say that I disliked the entire western genre? Are you insane? Are you implying that because I dislike the Star Wars prequels that I dislike all western movies? I am a fan of TAOJJBTCRF, I am a fan of 3:10 to Yuma, I am a fan of Lonely Are the Brave, Unforgiven, The Wild Bunch, The Searchers, Tombstone, and I have countless spaghetti westerns at home. Again, absolute smearing.
February 12th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Once again Hunter dude, wrong: the world isn’t comprised of only the US you know. The Ewok films were broadcast on TV in the US, but in most of the rest of the world they received theatrical releases.
Also, if they said “Anakin Skywalker, right, fights alongside apprentice Ahsokaâ€, they didn’t say “alongside HIS apprentice Ahsokaâ€, which really makes all the difference in the world.
February 12th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
@ HED
“Among revelations in the film: Anakin has a padawan (or Jedi apprentice) named Ahsoka, says Clone Wars director Dave Filoni, adding a new wrinkle to established lore.”
Do the words (from USA Today) “Anakin has a padawan (or Jedi apprentice” mean that Ahsoka is his apprentice? I’d say Yeah, Dude.
February 12th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
I wish Lucas would realize that “Clone Wars” is not a dramatically interesting conflict. The original trilogy was interesting because it was people actually fighting for their freedom. But the Clone Wars is simply a staged conflict in which the Jedi are pawns… So even though the action will be sweet, it doesn’t make for good drama.
February 12th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
hahahahahahaha that looks terrible
February 12th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
LEAVE HUNTER ALONE!!! So, after its all said and done are you telling me that George Lucas would be willing to green-light a movie with MAJOR PLOT HOLES??? Call off the cronies theres no reason to live! And Hunter you dummy, hand drawn? Everyone knows the Clone Wars was animated by Sebulba. A dug. THEY USE THEIR FEET TO DRAW! And to basically manipulate everything handy in the world around them. Check and mate. Fire your research department buddy, fire them good.
February 12th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
I think Dave brings up a great point about the dramatical aspects lacking in the PT’s plotline. Only thing imo that Lucas could do to alleviate that shortcoming might be to roll the dice and introduce some further plot twists that no one yet knows or sees coming. Much the way that hunter has evolved into a discussion censoring nazi. Afterall one of the major gripes about the prequels was that we already knew the end.
Maybe dwelve more into Anakin’s exact origins, as that is still a big question mark. Was there a father? Was sidious invlolved? Why Shmi (sp?)?
February 12th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
The original Clone Wars series was, for the most part, hand drawn.
http://www.starwars.com/collecting/shop/shopnews/news20050321.html
There’s been a sneak peak video up for the new series for over a month now, including shots of Anakin.
http://www.starwars.com/video/view/000478.html
So…we all should probably check our facts before we talk about what we think we know. /film is a very cool site and provides the news well, which is the main goal. Don’t let it turn into the AICN talkbacks.
February 12th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
so right now seems FOX and WARNER are playing “you steal mine, I’ll steal yours” kinda game…
the new trilogy was a travesty, but I must say that animated Clone Wars was excellent… and if this is a departure from those designs this is going somewhere.
and besides this is like “Good News everyone, we don’t have to put with stiff acting if we are interested in watching this”
February 12th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
First image of Anakin? They released images of Anakin and many of the other characters from this new series months ago. The first time I saw them was in Toyfare magazine. Since then I’ve seen them in several places, including starwars.com, which has had a publicly available “sneak peek” trailer for the series on their site for at least a week now (maybe longer). You can see the “sneak peek” trailer at the following address: http://www.starwars.com/video/view/000478.html

Nerds, I like star wars, but its a movie, stop arguing about who shot first and get a damned life.

@seanovan–
I work, I go to school, I spend time with friends and family, and I occasionally get drunk. Please excuse me if, to escape the monotony and horror that is reality, I enjoy losing myself into a fictional world. Thanks.
February 13th, 2008 at 9:37 am
We all like escaping into fictional worlds. that’s why we read Hunter’s entertainment posts. :p
February 23rd, 2008 at 9:19 am
dont like it

I think the first image of Anakin skywalker was great because I am
a big fan of star wars and anakin.
