I've experienced the same coming from Japanese or French visitors to the US. It certainly never occurred to me at those times to insist they act more like Americans, since they were "in country" after all. The next time I see an Italian over here, and she's acting or talking too Italian to pass for an American, I'm going to beat the crap out of her. I'm sure you would agree she'd deserve it, Nathan. Clearly, we have way too many socially challenged Americans who don't even remember who Osama Bin Laden is and what he is accused of doing and who are confusing Osama Bin Laden with Barack Obama. This would make for a most interesting movie since all us Americans should be better informed. The stars of the movie should be Mitt Romney and John McCain. They clearly need an education in personal identification.
