Smart Movie Executive Quote of the Day

“When you have a quality film of this caliber made by amazingly talented filmmakers and actors who truly believe and support a project, you can only succeed. We knew [Juno] had cross over potential and it has resonated with audiences all across the country. The entire marketing, distribution and publicity team has poured its heart and soul into making this a phenomenal success and their efforts have been truly remarkable.”
- Peter Rice, Fox Searchlight President

The Overall Difference

  • Sony Pictures Classics - 23 Film Releases in 2007 - $39 million
  • Fox Searchlight - 15 Film Releases in 2007 - $130.8 million
  • Mark
Hmm. It's a shame they don't promote a great movie like 'Persepolis' properly :(
  • Those numbers are pretty staggering, but remember - most good movies fail, and most failures do well. And with the exception of the 1970s, this has always been true.

The difference was only made by Juno...lucky punch!
  • Actually, Juno ONLY accounted for $26 million of Fox Searchlight’s 2007 box office. Even without Juno, Searchlight would have made almost three times the box office with almost half the amount of movie releases.

Is no lucky punch.. SPC sucks big time, "Where Good Films Go to Die" as simple as that.
