I wonder if endings are so difficult because when everything else is clicking so well you just don't want it to end on a certain level, and so you subconsciously reject the ending no matter what it is. There is clearly a pattern of troublesome endings even in the greatest works. Endings are tough. Hard not to veer in to cliche'. Sounds interesting.
