Ladies and gentlemen, what we have here is a robbery. I saw 88 Minutes on the new release shelf of a movie rental store last summer and it is, without question, a straight-to-DVD Al Pacino vehicle and already pinned as the worst film of his career. And now, today we have a new trailer because Columbia Pictures has reached the awesome decision to release it theatrically on April 18, 2008.
Watch it (the trailer, I’d boycott the movie) to see Pacino doing his Heat schtick in the dark while wearing the worst tie of his career and being threatened by a Scream-like killer who says “Tick, Tock, Tock” not once but twice, and the latter time it’s presented even deeper like it’s a legendary one liner. Pacino often gets lost, but Alicia Witt, what happened? Do not defend this trailer/movie in the comments.
You can also watch the trailer in High Definition on Yahoo! Movies. 88 Minutes hits movie theaters on April 18th 2008.

I forgot to mention that Pacino’s hair is the top draw in this flick. Death by mousse. How did this movie happen?

I really liked Coppola’s interview from a few months ago talking about what Nicholson, DeNiro, and Pacino were up to these days.
So depressing.
This movie looks better than Two For The Money.

Actually, I saw it, and I believe he says “tick tock doc” seeing as Al Pacino plays Doctor Jack Graham. And yes, they say it like frickin 20 times in the movie.
“tick tock doc”

Oh, very clever. This was like re-naming that Ator movie “The Cave Dwellers” in hopes that no one would notice.

Wow. Does anyone else think Millennium Films should update their logo AND not use MS Pant?

Now that I’m not commenting drunk, let me add my two cents.
I saw this movie and it is INSULTINGLY bad. Seriously. There are very few redeeming qualities and Pacino just sleepwalks his way through it, as thought he was wondering the entire time, “My god, what have I gotten myself into?”
I cannot fathom why he would read this script and sign on. The script was AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL - completely cliche-ridden, contrived, boring, predictable, formulaic, iccck. I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he must have either done this as A) a favor or B) to fulfill a contract - neither is a GOOD excuse, but it would make me feel better about the man’s judgment.
So, what I’m trying to say is this movie is one of the worst of Pacino’s career.

I’m not sure how anyone could defend that
trailer. I couldn’t even see myself watching
that movie on cable while bed bound with
a bad cold.

is that leelee sobieski in the trailer? she’s looking pretty good. she’s also a pretty good lock that the movie’s gonna blow.

Actually, I thought the trailer looked pretty good. I’ve certainly seen much, much worse. This type of story (is the cop innocent? does the serial killer have a friend on the outside?) has been done before, so the trick will be in what plot elements they use to keep you guessing or, failing that, keep you entertained.
I notice people keep saying the trailer is bad but they don’t say what, exactly, they don’t like. The “tick, tock”? Big deal, I’ve seen movies use phrases like that. (”Fallen” with Denzel Washington used the lines “Time is on my side” from the song. The “Scream” trailers routinely said “Do you want to play a game?” in that raspy voice. Oh, and Die Hard has the famous “Hippy-cayay-…” well, you know.) Catch phrases are nothing new.
Is this a movie for Al Pacino? I don’t know. It didn’t look like his style of film from the trailer, I’ll grant that. That, of course, says nothing about the quality of the story. (I’ve watched some bad actors in a pretty good story. I’ve also watched a lousy story be at least watchable by good actors.)
An interesting question for me: if Al Pacino was not in this (and it was just some other actor), would the people who apparently hate the film still hate it as much?

I won’t see it in the theatres, but I definetly would see it on DVD.
January 30th, 2008 at 11:42 am
I’m pretty sure he’s saying “Tick Tock, Doc” as in Pacino plays a forensic psychologist and would then be a doctor.

The plot of the movie seems to be very intriguing and interesting!
