Get Smart Movie Trailer

getsmartmovie1.jpg

Worst trailer, ever. Get smart, trailer. What has happened to us as a people? Steve Carell is a genuinely funny dude. Anne Hathaway is such a babe she can make guys who chop down trees for a living enjoy a movie about the dying publishing industry, and almost cry. How do you eff this up? Why can’t Warner Bros. print cool with this movie? I didn’t laugh inside once until the naked guy from Borat showed up. This is Get Smart, are we really relying on Madea-like Kazakh cameos to push it over $100 million at the box office?

As soon as this pathetic trailer ended, I clicked away to the original TV show’s intro. There’s your blueprint. Carell can do a good Don Adams, but it’s not here. Adams’s comedy was genius: his Maxwell Smart was a smooth, unaware, carefree guy who made it out beyond okay everytime, thanks to a hot, witty sidekick. That premise remains what all guys want in life. What happened here? Why do movies have to include so many beautiful unfunny friggin’ people? This isn’t a supermarket in Miami at 8 p.m., it’s a comedy. I am so glad they didn’t show Bill Murray, who’s in the movie, in this trailer.

This is Get Smart with botox and it sucks. This trailer is a 0.0. I had to listen to a botched theme song from the very unrelated Spy Hunter arcade game on YouTube three times to repress it. Is it harder to re-spoof a ’60s James Bond film with minor updates than it is to reinvent it? Judging from this trailer, this is Carell’s second Almighty big budget bomb.

Watch the new trailer after the jump.

I wouldn't judge this trailer. I've seen a lot of international trailers and they kinda suck. I'll wait until the american version is released to start bashing it.

You're an idiot, this movie will be great, it's basically a mix of Michael Scott and james bond, how do you not find this funny? Do you have no sense of humor or are you eagerly awaiting the next wayens brothers film?

You fail for thinking this movie is bad and is going to bomb, it will do great and you will look like an idiot posting blogs on SLASHFILM.

I have to admit, I didn't even crack a smile watching this. I do hate it when they show all the funny stuff in the trailers but throw me a frikkin bone.

remaking get smart has never been done correctly, even when it had original actors in it - think "nude bomb" and that fox series with andy dick in it (say no more).

what made the original show great was max's complete lack of awareness of his buffonery and his ability to still get the hot girl - basically a restate of what hunter said. this seems to just show him as a moron who gets his stupidity shoved in his face incessantly - funny if you're a moron or 11 years old, but probably not for young adults and certainly the oldsters like me who will go for the nostalgia factor.

i've seen a couple things on this movie so far - the first trailer with the phone booth sequence and now this - and it is giving me Tim Burton Planet of the Apes shingles.

considering all mel brooks does now is remake his old stuff, the fact that he has nothing to do with this says a lot.
  • This is obviously a trailer for "Agent 86".
    Way to confuse everyone.
    lol
  • Well, I don't consider myself a moron, but maybe I am. 3 good out loud laughs in this, Anne HAthaway, Steve Carell, Great poster, I'm in.
  • I notice this trailer uses a different take of the 'element of surprise' line than the first trailer. The first trailer's version is funnier.

    The modified theme blows.

I shouldn't have watched that before bed.

Get Smart was one of my favorite shows as a kid, when it was on Nick at Nite. And with Carell, I had high hopes for this film-version-of-a-tv-classic to actually not suck.

My hopes aren't completely dashed, as I'll wait for the final product to pass judgment. But, for now, I'm going to sleep saddened.

Yeah that was terrible... I don't know you're on about Larry.
  • kiko
I'll have to see it, just to compare!
  • Jim
You don't have to think everything sucks to be cool, Hunter. It's ok to like stuff.
  • Sam
This trailer is nothing special, but I just want to say that I think the worst trailer I have seen in some time was either A, Semi Pro with Will Ferrel. It was terrible, and only the bear bit at the end made me think about smirking. Or possibly B, The Other Beolywn Girl (I probably spelled that wrong). The trailer gives away the entire freaking plot and that is the worst thing a trailer can do.

This is what I was afraid of - Carrell giving us
a Maxwell Smart in the form of Michael Scott,
at least that is what it looks like in this trailer.
    I agree with Hunter - it's awful. I was such a fan
of the show watching the reruns and hoped this
movie would have a bit of that magic. They have
a wonderful cast! Looks like it'll be another TV
remake that I will simply roll my eyes at.
  • Kestrel
Sure man, i'll take some of your arguments, but do you have to judge the entire movie by one weak trailer? Thats a pretty emotional reaction. . . .
  • Jerry Butler
Wow, Hunter. That's a lot of complaining. I think you just lack the ability to enjoy and appreciate a movie as revolutionary as this.

At least, that's what you told us when we said Cloverfield was teh suck.
  • Jerry Butler
"Carell doesn't live up to my expectations!!" :'(

Good. Now you can understand what disappointment in a film feels like and not be so critical and, for lack of a better word, a jerk, when others express the sentiment.
  • Hunter Stephenson
    @Jerry

    Jesus loves you.
  • The Sea Inside You
Jerry, please be quiet and go back to the TMZ boards. Thanks.

Hunter is the spicy ala mode to Peter's boring informative posts.
Not to rag on Pete too much, but, you know.

Oh, and this movie looks like it'll blow harder than Jamie Lynn Spears. That's all.
  • Jerry Butler
    You kidding, Peter's the man.
  • Jerry Butler
Peter's Sundance coverage has been outstanding. Hunter's mountain of pointless posts border on spam.
  • The Sea Inside You
No. Me not. And I enjoy Peter's posts too- he's usually got a scoop - like the Chuck P (!!!) post coming soon. I'm only sticking up for a much needed original, very Howard Beale-ish voice that doesn't exist nowadays. That's all.
  • Guys, let's try to keep the discussion about this Get Smart Trailer. :)
  • Peter Boyle (not that one)
looks mediocre. actually, alan arkin doesn't look bad, and anne hathaway looks like she's in character, but steve just didn't own the classic lines too well (missed it by that much!) and this could be a flop. but the "i don't think you were expecting him to pick you up so high" was kinda clever. probably a decent popcorn movie, nothing earth shattering.

extremism begets extremism on the internet. flaming is for cooks and welders, guys.
  • Liz
I smiled. But I don't think it will be good.

Certain things only work in their proper historical context, and I think Get Smart might be one of them.
  • TK
Anne Hathaway is HOT, but Carell bites. He's a far cry from both Don Adam's "Maxwell Smart", and James Bond. Adam's comic timing was incomparable as "Agent 86". I'm quite sure that only Hathaway will shine in this clunker of a remake.
  • Gelectrox
Its the avengers for this decade! Good to see the guy from borat gettting work though
  • Grant
    That was horrible!
  • JD
Remember "The Beverly Hillbillies" remake? This is another one of those. Some sitcoms nailed it to perfection with cast, guest-stars and writing. They just don't need "updating". Plus, face it folks, Carrell is a one-trick pony. Funny as hell in the Office (mostly due to the writing) but over his head in anything else. It saddens me that the mostly empty suits running studios these days even tried to mess with the perfection of "Get Smart". And nothing against Anne Hathaway but no actress could touch Barbara Feldon and her awesome sweetness.

I think the trailer is great. But what is the name of that song in the begining or just in the trailer. Not the get smart theme the one that goes like "dig dig dig" and then all of this cool music. Please blog back
