Someone has posted the description of the JJ Abrams Star Trek teaser trailer over on the HollywoodChicago message boards, and I have confirmed through multiple sources that this is legit. If you don’t want to know, don’t read any further:
Paramount logo. Bad Robot logo. Black, suddenly some sparks (very saturated, Michael Bay looking cinematography) We hear an old NASA radio countdown: “30 sec and counting.” Close up of a timeless guy with goggles leaning down doing some weilding and sparks flying around. He lifts his googles - slightly futuristic head covering. It’s not a space suit, btw. The dude leans down and wields some more - he’s standing on big metal. “FROM DIRECTOR J.J. ABRAMS” (blue font with a nice lens flare)
Some Kennedy speech about space flight: “The eyes of the world now look to space.” People walking around the saucer section. The wielders are everywhere, showing size. We hear, “The Eagle has landed.” Huge overhead shot pans across, suddenly showing what looks like miles of scaffolding underneath. Title: “THE FUTURE BEGINS” Really impressive shot from by the nacelle(?) of people all over the ship, and you can see a huge industrialize city or shipyard in the background. It’s being built on Earth, not in space. Neil Armstrong: “One small step for man…” Camera slowly cranes up over the whole saucer section.
Then we hear then Leonard Nimoy’s line: “Space, the final frontier,” and the familiar “Star Trek” theme horns. The shot continues, revealing the writing on the top of the saucer - “U.S.S. Enterprise,” and these huge aircraft-like warp engines in the background. Technically, the first reveal of what we’re seeing. Just the Starfleet log (no title).
Title card: “UNDER CONSTRUCTION” “CHRISTMAS 2008″
What do you guys think? The new teaser trailer will be attached to Cloverfield, which hits theaters on 1-18-08.

So there is going to be time travel?
January 15th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Gods I hope not… That’s the quickest way to ruin any Star Trek series… Throw in mass amount of time travel. They did it like 5 times on Voyager and it ruined the series.

Seems like they are really leaning towards nostalgia to fill theater seats. But unfortunately for them……. these are fickle times. And a movie ticket costs $12+

Is it too late to change that trailer to put in some damn mark I phaser battles and save US space program tie-in garbage for the crappy intro to Enterprise where it belongs……

Wields?
Ohh you mean WELDS.

I wonder how many Trekkies will show up to Cloverfield just for the trailer. That would be a more interesting question if they weren’t in Cloverfield’s target audience to begin with, but hey.

Sorry, folks–this report ‘taint true. That is not our trailer. So much for your “multiple sources.” :)
January 16th, 2008 at 8:35 am
Sorry, I hit “submit comment” before I was done. I was going to ask a question: Are these “multiple sources” connected to Ain’t It Cool News? If so, that explains a lot–they’ve already posted false information about the trailer and failed to retract it even after I made it clear their sources were lying.

Put in some damn phasers and explosions.

Damn Roberto, You do a lot of damage control, nice to see someone in the know preventing geek-attacks around the world :p

Ummm….if you haven’t heard…there is a the Older and Younger Spock…so what does that tell you? And, if you are expecting big epic space fighting in this one, your going to be disappointed already. They are trying to reboot the series.

January 16th, 2008 at 4:03 pm
I have confirmed with yet another source that this is the trailer… The guy claiming to be Bob Orci above is an imposter.

Well, based on the first released picture here http://www.aolcdn.com/aolmovies/star-trek-uss-enterprise-full, this trailer description seems a bit on target.

Yeah, I don’t know who’s saying this is fake, but I just saw the teaser and this is what it was. I quite liked it, and I’m not even a “Star Trek” fan.

Sad to see negative comments about this movie coming out. I think something as inspiring as Star Trek should be a benchmark in what people should strive to emulate. And also, if any of you have seen any J.J. Abrams films, you would know his creativity and originality are bar none.
I was originally skeptic about another Star Trek movie coming out, especially one in the time era of the original series, but if anyone can do it its this guy.
Gene Roddenberry had a wonderful view, in the 60’s when this came out he had a crew of multiple nations on the same ship…symbolizing world unity in working towards the same common goal.

All I’ve seen so far is the low-quality YouTube version of the teaser, but I imagine I’ll see it in it’s full glory when I see Cloverfield in a few days or when they post the teaser in HD on Monday (I hope). I’m not a Trekkie by any means, and was more a fan of TNG than TOS, but I did grow up watching all the different Star Trek series. I think this movie has a lot of promise. Whether or not it adheres entirely to the canon that is so beloved by all fans, this looks like a good opportunity to re-imagine the vision of the franchise and make it look a bit more “now-ish”…a bit more down-to-earth.
People seem to be going off about the fact that the ship is being constructed on Earth, but is that really known for sure? Were there any cityscapes or Earthly environments in the background of the teaser, because I couldn’t discern any in the YouTube version. Again, I may have to wait for the high-def one, but has anyone considered the possibility that the ship is being constructed in just a different kind of “spacedock”? Something perhaps sealed off from the vacuum so that construction workers wouldn’t have to work in bulky spacesuits?
I remember this sort of panic when they first started talking about the new Battlestar Galactica. “OMG, Starbuck’s a chick? Bullets instead of lasers? Blasphemy!” And now most of them are singing the new show’s praises as if the old one never existed (I never liked the original, and I think the new one is the best piece of sci-fi I’ve ever watched…but that’s me). Re-imaginings open up a well of new ideas, so don’t always knock things you see at a glance.
Will some things be changed? Maybe, but don’t think they won’t be thought-out. I’ve never gotten into Lost, but I like Abrams’ cinematic stuff. He’ll stick to the source material. No director in his right mind would take phasers out for bullets in Star Trek. Personally, I think if the cast does a good job and the story works, this will be a great film that will breathe new life into a franchise that is, unfortunately, dying.
